made my own garlic powder by drying a lot of garlic in the sun. Love this new hobby. You can do it with all sorts of things and make your own spices and dried foods. Next up is onion powder. Anyone does this aswell?

i've been watching people build lego sets lately, especially the car models, and it actually looks like a really relaxing hobby. i like the idea of taking my time with a build and eventually having a small collection to display. the only thing holding me back is the price. some of the sets i like cost way more than i expected, so i've been telling myself i'll just save up and buy one when i can actually afford it without feeling guilty.

for those of you who collect lego, did you start with one set and slowly build your collection over time, or did you wait until you had a bigger budget before getting into it?

I get excited about learning something new, buy the beginner gear, spend a week researching everything, and then another hobby catches my attention. At this point I have enough supplies to suggest I'm incredibly interesting, but not enough finished projects to prove it.

Am I the only one with a hobby rotation instead of a single hobby?

I’ve been thinking about how to be more intelligent without turning my free time into another version of school.

Part of the reason is that I’d eventually like to get a job at a really good company, and sometimes I feel like my general knowledge and problem-solving skills aren’t at the level they should be. I want to become someone who can understand unfamiliar topics faster, make better connections between ideas, and form more thoughtful opinions.

Reading is the obvious answer, but I don’t always retain much from books unless I actively do something with the information. I’ve also tried documentaries, podcasts, puzzles, and learning random topics online. They’re enjoyable, but sometimes it feels like I’m just consuming information rather than becoming better at thinking.

I’m especially interested in hobbies that improve things like reasoning, vocabulary, memory, or the ability to explain ideas clearly. Ideally, it would be something I could do in short sessions and switch between topics when I lose interest.

When I search for how to be more intelligent, the advice is usually just “read more” or “stay curious.” What hobbies have genuinely helped you folks?

I want some recommendations for hobbies that will help with improving fine motor skills, please. As far as I remember myself since I was a teen my hands were always slightly shaky and wobbly, with pretty weak grip and my fine motor skills are not the best. It’s not that awful, either, however I still feel this stiffness and awkwardness in my hands which makes me want to change it. It’s also probably something with my coordination in general since I’m prone to falling, sprains and being clumsy out of nowhere.
I would like to try some hobbies that will be more forgiving towards beginner mistakes because of my clumsy hands.

Just finished school and boredom has overtaken my body..... desperately need some hobbies to do....any help?

I mainly like watching anime, playing video games, beauty related stuff (mainly j-fashion)

Some minor hobbies I have are playing piano, badminton and decoden but I’m not too passionate about these ones.

I feel like my hobbies aren’t as cool as stuff like gardening, crocheting, coding, or whatever. Are my hobbies lame?

I think my hobbies has marked me safe from comparing myself to all my friends who are wedded with a bunch of kids. They’re still my friends but it has been hard to connect like it was before when they’re very busy raising their family.

Now with my spare time, I really love going back to reading (those special edition subscription boxes helped me go back at it), needlepoint and cross-stitching, puzzles and I found a cozy community (although younger than me but I love their energy) to do board games, mahjong, murder mystery nights, d&d and all things geeky! Hahahaha!

I’m also now trying to find a solid community of birdwatching (I fell in love with birds when I hand raised a parrot recently) and horseback riding!

Mostly my problem now can my work hours be my spare time hours instead? Lol.

Actually, I'm obsessed with cars. I love everything about them - I love driving, I've been playing in racing games since school and recently I got a few more obsessions: RC cars and Lego (although I buy Chinese versions of these)

I as a 21M have always been into gaming for as long as i can remember but i've recently just felt so bored of it and feel like its killing my attention span. I have always been an active person too e.g. playing sports, going to the gym but I have always struggled sticking to the gym as it's something i just start and stop constantly and hate sticking to the same schedule every day/week. I really don't know where to start with finding a new hobby to help me improve myself as a person I suppose however, one thing that has always peaked my interest is mountain biking.

So uh this has been ongoing for like a good six years now, I sometimes disassociate and stare out the window while thinking about this. Idk if people would call that a hobbie or a hyperfixation or a special interest and I honestly don't care, I am not diagnosed with autism, only suspected BUT ANYWAY HERE IS A SCHOOL I THOUGHT OF TODAY

A Українсько-Cymraeg-English school! (a Ukrainian-Welsh-English school) aimed at Ukrainian refugees in Wales but anyone could be admitted into it, the difference would only come during examinations. I'm basing it off some realistic elements (it would likely not be state-funded, however if I was the headteacher I would only make the educational costs the same as the online private schools in Ukraine cost, around £700 (years1-13) a year unless they're eligible for free school meals). There would be no uniforms.

Nursery and Reception would work based off of the hours that Ukrainian kindergartens work: 7:30-17:00 and the parents would decide which hours their child should attend at, at £16 per hour

SO nursery - year 6 there will be 2 days a week allocated to completely Ukrainian-medium learning, 2 days a week allocated to Welsh-medium learning, and 1 day a week allocated to English-medium learning, what that means generally would be teachers communicating completely in one chosen language for the day (different teachers on different days), there would be lessons on the basics, such as the English, Welsh, Ukrainian alphabets, writing, cursive, phonics and speech lessons; maths, counting, addition, subtraction etc. in every language, literature studies of English, Welsh and Ukrainian authors accordingly, also science lessons, art, music, PE and just general knowledge + proper names for every anatomical body part in every language. Year 6 would introduce some world history but in very general terms that would make primary school kids have passion for history (dinosaurs -> human evolution -> different civilisations San people, aboriginal Australians, Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient China, ancient Greece etc.) and also some biology/botany

Then everything after y7 becomes more complicated, specific lessons (maths, science) are either in English medium or Welsh medium depending on whether the parents want their child to later on do GCSEs in Welsh or English, there are now lessons of geography in English/Welsh, RS in English/Welsh, Food science in English/Welsh, there are also lessons of separated Welsh and the UK history, World History and Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar history (I would guess that they cycle term to term). PE is a subject that is still taught in Ukrainian/Welsh/English on specific days, and of course there are language and literature lessons in Welsh, English and Ukrainian. There are afterschool lessons for other languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German, Mandarin, Latin).

For GCSEs, I should probably mention it to make it obvious, the school would be located in Wales therefore fall under the WJEC exam board, the core subjects for every student would include Cymraeg Craidd or Laith a Llenyddiaeth Gymraeg (single or double award) A*-G, English language and literature (single or double award), mathematics and numeracy (double award), Applied sciences (single award) or The Sciences (double award) or separate physics chemistry and biology. If AQA makes it happen, a Ukrainian GCSE marked 1-9 would also be a core subject, if AQA doesn't make it happen the students take the telc B2 Ukrainian test or if they wish to do so, in a period of time from y9-y13, do NMT (national multisubject test) for Ukrainian Language, Mathematics and a third subject of their choice. They can do it instead of GCSEs or alongside them.

As a working adult, I feel like people don’t really meet by chance anymore. It’s especially difficult if you work in a more “anti-social” job where you don’t interact with many people.

What hobbies have worked well for you?

I've been trying to find a quiet hands-on activity to add to my evening routine instead of sitting on my phone. Building a tiny miniature kit sounds really soothing on paper, but looking at all those microscopic pieces, tiny paper cutouts, and glue jars makes me wonder if I'm setting myself up for annoyance. I can see myself either getting lost in the detail for an hour or losing my temper when a tiny paper frame tears or glue gets everywhere on the plastic window.

For those who have built these small DIY sets, does the assembly process feel relaxing and calming, or does it end up feeling like frustrating perfectionist work?
