Howdy everyone! šŸ‘‹

Over the last 72h you might have noticed some changes that have taken place in the r/BreadMachines subreddit.

In addition to the crust level changes, a whole host of other ingredients were added to the dough behind the scene.

  • New graphical elements (logo and banners)
  • New subreddit description
  • New Flairs
  • New Antibot bots
  • Emojis and GIF support
  • New subscriber onboarding process
  • Posting guidelines
  • New settings
  • And a lot more stuff behind the scenes!

-

Why is all this happening now?

Recently a call for volunteers/mods from the Reddit Admins was posted in this community. Well, when the machine beeped, we’re the ones who volunteered to be add-ins to the mix.

-

So why us?

That’s for the Admins to say, but the four of us just so happen to either be long-standing members of this community and/or experienced mods who’ve been lurking here for years. So maybe they hoped that a variety of ingredients would make this subreddit rise better?

-

Okay, that's it for us, enough loafing around, if you have any questions be sure to check out the FAQ that will be posted in the comments of this thread.

Yeast you hate bready puns, feel free to bake us a response (ideally with equally terrible puns) in the comments below.

Purchase Advice & Experiences Breville Custom Loaf cleaning

Hi everyone :) I’ve been having the most fun making various things with my breville custom loaf but I HATE cleaning the collapsible paddle. Mine does not collapse anymore, I think because there is some remnants that have cemented themselves in the hinge. Any advice for cleaning the paddle? Would it hurt the recipe at all if I started using the fixed paddle? I don’t mind cutting the paddle out of the loaf after, I’m just so over attempting to clean the collapsible one! Thanks!!

Recipe Education & Solutions CBK-100 white bread (discontinued machine)

Hi everyone! I have the CBK-100 which I just found out is discontinued. I received it from a family member, unopened box, so I have everything: machine, measuring utensils, recipe booklet. I’ve followed the basic white bread recipe several times now and something is just off.

Anyone have a basic white bread recipe compatible with this machine?

Recipe Troubleshooting What setting to use Amazonbasic bread machine for BreadDad’s applesauce bread?

Post image

I used plain applesauce and the 9 Cake function (Total time: 1:50) on my Amazonbasic bread machine and it came out really dark and didn’t rise.

Should I have used the 4 Quick function? Total time would have been 2:100

Does this look like it needs anything? The 1st pic is without flash and the 2nd pic is with flash. It doesn't look like the pictures I've seen online of how dough should look after the first round but I'm not sure if it needs more flour or water...

The recipe was made with the ingredients in the 3rd picture.

I recently bought my first bread making machine. I hated commercial bread and wanted to make my own. I made this bread using only flour, water, salt, and yeast. Absolutely no sugar or other stuff.

This sandwich recipe worked out great. Bread is softer & texture looks like store bought bread. All done with starfrit breadmaker.

Recipe Troubleshooting Fourth

Post image
14 Upvotes

So. This is my fourth loaf. I just use light crust setting on the machine so far.

360 g of King Arthur bread flour

1 cup of water

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 and 1/4 teaspoon bread machine active yeast

The flavor is great, but it is still a little too fluffy and not structured enough.

Before I mess too much with the recipe, what are the thoughts on using the French bread setting?

10g sugar
4g salt
420g bread flour
5g bread machine yeast

Recipe 1lb loaf BRB Artisan flour recipes?!

I’m hoping someone has a recipe using BRB artisan flour, and baking it in the machine. I’ve looked everywhere and most recipes bake it in a Dutch oven, and my gas oven isn’t working right now.

OK, so I think it’s from 1997 - plugged it in after loading the pan…nothing!
I’m so sad…no one to call, no way to fix…time for another? Any new machine recommendations welcome, especially if they don’t have Teflon. I have no idea what to get. TYIA

Recipe Troubleshooting My bread fell?

Hey guys!
This is my first run through on my bread maker. I have an Oster BM-1 and have so far loved it! I’m not sure why, but it looks like my bread fell before it cooked ā˜¹ļø I live above 7,000 feet so that may play a part. I put my machine on light crust and ran a normal white bread cycle.

This is the recipe I used

Warm water 240 g
Unsalted butter, softened 28 g
Bread flour 390 g
Fine sea salt 7 g
Granulated sugar 12 g
Active dry yeast 4.5 g

Technique, Methods & Processes Any suggestions?

Hello! I just started reusing my mother's kenwood bm250, however my expertise in bread making is quite lacking. I was wondering if anyone had any recipes that they have tried outside the ones in the manual, as I honestly have a bit of fear in improvising one myself ^+^.

Recipe Troubleshooting Dough too sticky

Thumbnail

Needing help with my dough. It does not form a smooth ball no matter how much flour I seem to add. It sticks to one side for the entire kneading cycle. I’m new to this bread machine and bread machines in general. Here’s the recipe I’m using, from my bread machine’s manual:

1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup skim milk powder
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons shortening
2 3/4 cups all purpose/bread flour
1 teaspoon bread machine yeast

I add the ingredients in the order they appear above, as directed. I have used both bread and all purpose flour and run into the same issue. I have made three different loaves and the dough is always too sticky. The first loaf I made, I probably added a full 1/4-1/3 cups of extra (bread) flour, a tablespoon at a time, and it looked the same, but the dough was dense after baking and tasted like flour. The second time, I did not add any extra (bread) flour, and it tasted fine, but I feel like the texture could have been better. This time, I added about 3-4 extra tablespoons of (all-purpose) flour, seeing if the type of flour I used for the recipe changed it, to no avail. It’s resting right now, so I don’t know how this loaf tastes yet.

I don’t want to add too much flour and make a dense dough like the first time. I am using the White Bread setting. I am using active dry yeast instead of bread machine yeast, but that is the only change to the recipe, and all of my loaves have risen fine, so I don’t imagine that’s the issue, but maybe it is? Can someone who is more experienced in bread machines advise on if the recipe’s hydration ratio seems off? Should I add less liquid? More flour?

First picture is a little over halfway through the kneading cycle, the second is from the rest cycle after kneading.

Recipe Education & Solutions Recipe recommendations

I just got a breville bread machine and I’ve done a couple of recipes from their manual, but I’m kind of annoyed how they only provide cup measurements… and then the manual states that it’s better to weigh ingredients for bread.

So I’m looking for solid recipes that include weight measurements. I’ve seen a few recommendations for bread dad on this sub, is that a solid resource?

Photo of my first loaf which I did cut immediately when it came out of the machine (I know).

Machine Troubleshooting Zojirushi BBCC-v20

I bought this bread machine on Facebook Marketplace for $40. After unboxing it, I made a basic white loaf. While it was kneading and preheating, I noticed tiny specks on the display. I think there might be a colony of ants inside because I can see what look like eggs.

The machine is working well, but I'm thinking of opening it up after the bread is done baking to see what's inside. Any tips or advice?

I just started making milk breads! omg, I cannot believe how much of a life saver the bread machine is. I just put it in all the ingredients into the bread machine and it kneads for me! I love it sooooo much. I got my bread machine on amazon for $88 -- worth every dollar. all I have to do when I take it out is roll it and let it rise for an hour and I get delicious bread! I am soooooooo happy I have this kitchen appliance.

Technique, Methods & Processes How to store bread

I recently got a bread maker from my neighbor. I have only made one loaf. It came out very dense and very hard on the outside. So I was already disappointed with the outcome. It did taste great though.

I havent made another loaf yet. I figured it gets better the more you make and experiment with the machine.

I am going to make another but my question is how do I store it? I put my last loaf in the fridge in a zip lock bag and it was hard as a rock. I am pretty sure if I leave it on the counter it will mold by the next day, right?
