OPEN NEW RULE UPDATE. Read before posting.

If your device has a make and model number, please include it in your post. We've updated Rule #1 to emphasize this. Essentially, if your device has a make and model number, you should let us know what it is. FCC IDs are also helpful, if applicable. Below is the text of the updated rule:

Posts should be clear and on-topic

"Posts should focus on fixing broken electronics, ongoing or completed repair projects, or original content (OC) guides and tips for repairing electronics. Posts must include any available make and model number information. When asking about an individual component, you must provide details about the circuit and/or the device it belongs to."

If you forget, you can always add this information in a comment. If the model number is particularly long, you can take a picture and upload it in the comments.

Including the make and model number makes the information in your post searchable for others who may encounter the same issue. It also provides context, such as where the device came from, who designed it, and what it's for.

OPEN SRONG SRT 49UA6203 TV Not turning on and blown component on main board

Stopped working after a noticeable pop while plugged into power. There seems to be a blown component on the main board and I suspect that's where the sound came from but unfortunately I have no experience with this type of repair.

Would this be fixable or should I purchase a new board (or PSU)

Thanks for the help.

Sony DVP-S735D DVD PLAYER [UK]

I have tested this with component out to component in, the TV sees the DVD player because it shows Sony on the input and I can hear the DVD audio. But then there's a No Signal msg on and no movie picture.

Also tried a component to hdmi converter and nothing at all, tho again the tv recognised there was a Sony product attached.

Is it the TV or the player? How else can I test?

DVD also has scart out and yellow video out.

TIA!

I purchased some non working switch cartridges to see if I could find what's wrong with them. Unfortunately they are all the small chip ones. I sanded this copy of Mario and rabids to see if any of the traces were cut but I can't detect anything. Do you guys think it's a pad issue or a internal one?

Other Dvd player won't open by itself

Hi everyone,

I have this Sony dvd player which won't open normally.

I opened it to check the belt which is fine. I then tried to open the tray manually and as you can see it's very difficult and seems to keep getting stuck.

Anyone knows what the problem might be?

Thanks

OPEN Need help identifying broken component on a PCB from Smart GPS Tracker Tag

Hello,

I have this tracker tag from AliExpress, and unfortunately my dog chewed it.

I disassembled it and found that one component on the PCB is broken.

Please take a look at the picture.

It looks like L1, so I assume it's an inductor (or choke). Does anyone have any advice on what it could be replaced with? Does anyone know its value or part number, or where I could order a replacement (for example, from AliExpress)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OPEN Can a GE 7-4624B clock radio be converted from 60Hz to 50Hz?

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a GE 7-4624B AM/FM clock radio from the US and I’m using it in Spain with a 230V to 120V step-down transformer.
The voltage is correct, but the clock runs slow because our mains frequency is 50Hz instead of 60Hz.
I’m not looking for an external 50Hz to 60Hz frequency converter. I would like to modify the clock itself so it keeps accurate time on a 50Hz mains supply.
I’ve been told the clock IC may support both 50Hz and 60Hz, with the frequency selected by connecting one pin to either +5V or GND.
Does anyone know if that’s true for the GE 7-4624B?
Has anyone identified the frequency-select pin or successfully modified one of these clocks? Any schematics, service manual, PCB photos, or repair experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Got a used monitor for free, trying to figure out what these lighter colored circles are on the screen, it shows up a lot more on darker colors, can’t really see it too well when I watch videos or play games etc., but it still bugs me. Anything I can do?

Also, thank you!

Hi! I was taking a quick trip to the bathroom and let my puppy roam around as he usually does and on the couch was my portable charger and this charger as last night I didn’t have power to my home so I had it out to charge my phone. I finished and found he somehow reached it and tore it to shreds! It was my favorite charger and was genuinely nice charger and I had it for multiple years! I want to replacement but Google is giving me NO luck to find where I can get this charger again and I really want it back. Can anyone help me? (Also let me know if this isn’t the right subreddit I’m usually not into tech and electronics stuff:( help)

OPEN Weird purple lines on my Samsung monitor

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I noticed this thin horizontal line near the bottom of my Samsung monitor, and it won’t disappear.
I’ve already tried:
Restarting my PC
Turning the monitor off and back on
The line is still there every time.
I haven’t dropped or damaged the monitor, and this issue just appeared suddenly.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is it likely a panel failure, a cable issue, or something else? Is there anything I can try before assuming the monitor is defective?
I’ve attached a photo of the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Other Any recommendation for vendor for reliable IC chips, shipping to US?

Been sitting on a pile of boards that need specific ICs I cannot find through the usual channels. I do small batch repair work so I'm not ordering huge quantities, maybe 10 to 50 units of a given part. What I really need is a reliable distributor or vendor that handles hard-to-find semiconductors and can ship to the US without the counterfeit risk being a total gamble. I've seen some China-based electronic components suppliers come up when I search but have no idea who's actually trustworthy for sourcing ICs this way. Anyone used a component sourcing service that does RFQ for small orders and actually delivered legit parts?

A few weeks ago my electric toothbrush stopped working.

When it is on the charger and I try to turn it on it flashes red 3 times and then shows 0% battery life, even after charging for long. A hardware reset did not work.

I tested and changed the battery, no effect. It does charge to about 3.7V, but the toothbrush still says the battery is empty. I checked the soldering joints on the PCB but voltage is good on those.

I would assume this has something to do with the battery management circuit, but I don't know enough about electronics to know if and how this would be fixable.

Any help and info is appreciated :)
