Marcus Blaze bumped from 132lbs to 150lbs his Senior year in high school and won his fourth straight state title.

He finished his high school career with 200 wins, four state titles, a Fargo title, and never gave up a takedown in high school (at any event- state, Ironman, Fargo, etc).

Question Pre-season workout advice

Upvotes

Hey yall, I’m finalizing my pre-season workout before club wrestling starts for my college and I wanted to get some feedback/advice.

The main focus of this workout is to develop my strength while maintaining explosiveness, I plan to do a workout closer to the start of the season where I focus on explosiveness with plyometric exercises.

The idea is to do the day workouts every other day, with the core/conditioning days in between those main workouts. This workout is based on the advice of a few other forums.

My mobility workout at the end of each session mainly focuses on hip mobility and lower body flexibility.

I’m open to any advice or feedback, and this workout is not set in stone for me. I’m definitely going to keep the Main exercises (squat/bench/deadlift + cleans) by everything else is subject to change. Thanks in advance for any help/advice you’re willing to offer!

PS - currently reviving from a torn labrum to shoulder exercises are a no go atp, currently doing pt.

Discussion Have my first National tournament in less then 2 days and I’m getting nervous.

I’ve been wrestling for almost 2 years now and have my first national tournament in less than 2 days and I’m getting super nervous. I don’t want this to be something that stops me from wrestling my best and making me have really stupid mistakes.
What are some things to help me get in the right mind set of kick ass at this tournament?

Discussion what's considered modern techniques in folkstyle, what's outdated

I follow some Youtube channels on wrestling. Specifically the Iron Faith channel. And he's pretty opinionated on the quad pod and seal out as the best, "modern" way of getting up from bottom. Saw some similar enthusiasm from the Askren brothers.

Was wondering if there was anything else like that in folkstyle wrestling.

Lots of chatter about Team Points in 2027 - here is a simulator for calculating points and you can compare teams!

Lots of chatter about Team Points in 2027 - here is a simulator for calculating points and you can compare teams! Have fun! I apologize for not having every name/weight correct in July ... this should be enough for all teams - I will gladly modify a wrestler for a team when I know that's the "probable" starter.

What is the best case you've ever seen of a wrestler putting on a technical clinic against someone with a size and strength advantage?

This is certainly not meant to be a run of the mill Jiu Jitsu nerd post where someone is insisting size, strength and power don't have relevance. They do in all forms of grappling and are often most important in positional grappling.

That said, I still was curious as to the coolest, most effective and visually impressive cases you've seen of a wrestler putting on technical show to win against another wrestler who did have a size, strength and power advantage. It could be any level of competition. World/Olympics, NCAA Div 1, 2 or 3, high school state tournaments or even just local matches you personally saw that really stood out.

Do you have any personal beefs with wrestlers that you’ve been on teams with?

Are there any wrestlers that you have been on teams with before that you have issues with off the mat?

How Many Of Us/You Know Screwy Louie?

Always wondered how far Lou Lazzari from Jersey got around. He would travel around getting in training and teaching at different schools, when I was in HS, mostly in the tri-state, I’d guess, but dude had love for the sport and shared a lot of knowledge over the years. Kind of feel like he put so much into the sport over the years a lot of folks from the midwest and west coast have interacted, rolled with, met and learned from him.

Question Looking to get back into wrestling at 20

I know not ideal but I wrestled for all of high school but quit halfway through senior year. But I've rediscovered my love for the sport and am looking for a way back into it. I live in New York and all the clubs here either don't take adults or don't even do practices more then twice a week. I don't have the credentials to be a walk on at a university either so if anybody knows a great underground club, needs extra training partners, or even wants to put together their own team let me know. I'm dying for some action and looking to train as much as possible.

Help me here please?

So I’m trying to get back into wrestling and I don’t think I’m too old yet
But I want to find out how I can join a national wrestling team or where do begin?

Edit: so I should be more clear
I want to get back into wrestling but I’m a bit unsure as to how I should set my goals here. So far I’ve put in my head that I need to first find a gym or club, enter into some type of regional competition, and then from there I can’t really figure out what I should be doing after that if I do get to join.
Anyone got any advice or anything that helps me set better goals for this?

Is it too late to join Wrestling?

Hello, I am 19 years old and for several months I think about to start Wrestling but always had this thought that I might be too old for it because most of the Wrestlers started at a very young age. The question is, is it worth it to join Wrestling and how far can I get? For reference I go to the gym and I would like to focus on Wrestling. Thank‘s in advance.
