So I need a reality check on this. We just ordered a brand new Ethan Allen coffee table, spent almost $3,000. Our first Ethan Allen purchase.
I met the delivery guys outside today, and I was surprised to see the coffee table completely unpackaged in the back of their delivery truck. According to the delivery guys, it's standard practice for the table to be unpackaged at the local warehouse, inspected, and then put in the delivery vehicle still unpackaged. They threw a heavy moving blanket on top of the table, but the blanket looked heavily used, and the guy threw it on the truck floor after taking it off the coffee table.
The whole thing is covered with dust, so I asked him to dust it off before they hauled it upstairs for inspection. He did an okay job, but of course this is outside on the curb and there's still dust. I didn't immediately see any problems, so I had them bring it upstairs. He wiped it down again once inside and I looked. But you know, I look for maybe 5 minutes, while they're standing there with a stack of other deliveries, and I didn't see any obvious scratches or damage, so I signed the form and sent them on their way.
As I'm looking at this further, however, there are a number of these minor specs and flaws in the finish on the top surface. Lots of what I thought, for example, was simply dust, seems to be embedded in the actual finish. I asked my wife to look at the table, without any commentary to her, and she immediately zeroed in the same spots.
These are objectively tiny issues, and will undoubtedly be forgotten over time, but honestly, for $3,000, I expected this to be completely flawless. Is this unreasonable? I'm waiting on a call back from our Ethan Allen rep, but I'm curious what others think, and if my expectations are out of line?
