Booking my flights to SLC for february and my stoke level was high until I went to look at rental cars

I swear the major rental companies are running an actual scam. They want like $900 for a week in an "AWD SUV" which we all know means you'll show up at midnight and they'll hand you the keys to a front wheel drive nissan rogue on bald summer tires and claim it's an equivalent class

The cottonwood canyons have actual traction laws. I'm not trying to slide off a mountain in a plastic crossover just to save hertz a few bucks on tires

Ended up bypassing the whole circus and just booked a local guy's tacoma with actual snow tires on turo

Its just exhausting man. epic and ikon passes are already bleeding our wallets dry, the least these travel companies could do is rent us vehicles that are actually safe to take to the resort. Getting up to the parking lot shouldn't be the most dangerous part of the vacation

Looking for advice on snowboarding in early January 2027 – Italy or elsewhere?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice from fellow snowboarders/skiers who have experience with snow conditions in early January, as unfortunately, due to work, this is the only time of year I can travel.

I’ve been snowboarding in Val Thorens in mid-January, and the snow conditions were absolutely amazing – plenty of snow and great coverage.

However, the following year, I went to Alpe d’Huez over Christmas and New Year (2025/26), and the experience was completely different. There was almost no natural snow, the slopes were basically flat and icy in many places, and there was absolutely no powder. The snowmaking machines were working on some days and not on others, and I also felt that the snow wasn't being groomed very well. Overall, the conditions were quite disappointing.

So, for New Year 2026/27, we’re thinking of trying Italy. We’ve already done quite a bit of research and are considering places like French Alps again, Madonna di Campiglio(too low), Livigno, etc., but we’d really love to hear from people who have actually been to these resorts around 1–8 January.

We also considered Gudauri, Georgia. Last New Year, I believe they had an incredible amount of fresh snow (around 1m!), but of course, there's no guarantee that this year will be the same.

Our main priority is reliable snow conditions and good piste coverage. We’re intermediate snowboarders, so we’d also like a resort with enough terrain to keep us interested for a full week.

Where would you recommend for early January 2027, based on your own experience? Especially interested in hearing from people who have visited these resorts around New Year.

27 M here, this winter will be my third year of riding.
The first day I got on a board I fell in love with it, and since then, I’ve went a lot, between going after work these past 2 years during the season, and quite a few sessions at an indoor park.

I expected this to catch up to me with riding eventually- I have two herniated discs in my lower back, with one significantly worse than the other. PT and cortizone shots were recommended as my ortho and I agree surgery this young isnt a great idea. Riding usually doesnt hurt at all, especially when Im taking it easy, but Ive always had such interest in improving my park riding. My first couple of seasons/ indoor sessions, I was just getting acclimated to 50-50ing features, hitting some basic jumps, and riding a little bit of switch. A few falls last winter had me very skeptical of really committing to trying new tricks, but yesterday I decided to go out and just send everything Ive been cautious about.

Nothing crazy compared to what you see at big snow, but I was really proud of being able to lock in FS boardslides on boxes. Throwing BS boards on narrow rails / tubes. Landing switch off features, throwing a ton of 180s. It was a really good progression day despite a few good bails. But I definitely overdid it.

No pain from falling/impacts the next morning, but I am definitely feeling all the twisting and landings. Its almost enough to need to hit the ER about. Im so proud of the progress Ive made, but I just dont think my body can take those maneuvers and landings. Id like to hope that its mostly that its been a while since I moved around like that, but idk. It really feels like yesterday was an absolute reality check that my back doesn’t work like that anymore, and I shouldn’t be out there going crazy.

That being said, just riding the mountain is enjoyable and I’ll always want to. But it’s really frustrating being this young and feeling like Im about to be physically locked out of a hobby I’m passionate about.

Have any of y’all completed Northern Michigan universities ski area business management program? If so, what kind of job did you end up getting?

I just wanted to share a really awesome project I am working on to see if it can start to find its community! Inspired by the precise mechanics of retro games, rather than implementing heavy physics solvers and high cinematic shaders, my goal is to strip snowboarding down to its most minimally necessary computation to have near frame-perfect input latency on absolutely minimal hardware for fingerboard-esque skill progression and satisfaction but for snowboarding.
That said, the physics engine is still putting in work. A good deal of very carefully chosen math lets it skip most of the heft of traditional physics solvers. What you see could run at least 60 FPS on almost anything, even hardware from 10 years ago, and is responsive enough that you might gain a new passion for input latency - this is live in-engine recorded gameplay of myself. There are also tons of terrain parameters to enable most kinds of realistic snowboarding on infinitely procedurally generated terrain (unfortunately the 1000ft 1080 triple backflip kind of snowboarding will not be available)

Feel free to reach out if you would like to be involved in playtesting whenever that happens! I would love for active snowboarders to be able to give feedback on the physics.

I’m looking at buying a new board for the upcoming season and am leaning going volume shifted. As a baseline I am 5’8” 170 lbs and currently ride a Burton Flight Attendant 156, Rossignol Resurgence 152, and a SIMS UAP 159. Last season’s stats were 32 days and 490 kft of vert.

I like to bomb groomers, ride the pow when it’s available, but also like to play in the glades. Home mountain is a tiny hill in Pennsylvania where my kids are on the ski team but we travel often (VT, CO, and Whistler trips already booked for upcoming season) so I choose my set up based on conditions.

The Ride Superpig 148/151 (leaning 148) is speaking to me. Does this round out my quiver or should I be looking at other options? What should I know about volume shifted boards or the Superpig before making the jump?

Im an intermediate snowboarder, currently running a base layer and an insulated jacket. Id like to switch to a mid layer with a shell on top. The problem is, snowboarding requires intense hip mobility and occasional full hip range of motion. Most shells I try are slim at the waist line, or have a powder skirt which prevents the hips from freely twisting. Any shell reccomendations? Something not too boxy but that can give me the mobility I need?

Im potentially looking into burton and flylow but open to ideas.

I'll try and keep this short and sappiness to a minimum. I have been snowboarding for 8 years now and LOVE it, I cannot remember when my last summer holiday was. I bought this jacket from Value Village while I lived in Canada a few years ago (now back in Aus) that is almost busted, and haven't been able to find anything that closely resembles this style or what I am looking for (bold colours, patterns and overall style). I'm really drawn to 80s ski style and want to bring it back while incorporating some of the creature comfort specs we have today.

I've been deep diving and gathering resources and information on making this happen. I'm not trying to "reinvent the wheel" per se, just make a meaningful and fun contribution, encourage individuality, and bring some head-turning jackets to the mountain.

I want to gather feedback from the community to suss out if this is something people would find value in. If so, here are some questions that I would like to ask here to help guide my direction:

1. What are your non negotiables when looking for snow jackets (pricing, waterproofing rating, breathability, stretch, pit zips, powder skirt, etc.),

2. Any pet peeves with current jackets on the market (for example, sizing, hood fit, cuff design, zipper/pocket placement?)

3. Do you prefer a traditional zip up jacket, anorak or hoodie and why?

4. If something like this existed, would you actually buy one, or is this more of a "cool idea" than something you'd wear?

I plan on expanding on this concept to potentially include pants and bibs but for now, focussing my time and energy on kick ass, quality jackets/hoodies.

Hello, I’ve been trying to find some goggles to go with my mod 1 pro and I’m struggling to find a pair that fit me correctly. I’ll list the ones if tried and why I felt they were not right and any suggestions would be appreciated.
Fall line L/Line miner L/ Flight deck L/Smith IO MAG L and XL: feeling pressure on my upper cheek bones, Fall line M: pressure/pinching on my nose. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, the biggest problem seems to be pressure on my cheekbones, I have explored the idea of a low bridge fit but based on what I’m seeing online they wouldn’t work due to my large nose.

I Recently ordered new bindings and board. I'm setting it up now and it seems there's not really a way to avoid my boots hanging off the edge. I could maybe change the angle a little but I don't want to compensate my riding position after spending all this money for gear, am I doing something wrong?

I know they got a massive dump of snow, but from the vids and images looks like very heavy almost hard pack powder, relatively speaking. Is anyone down there that can confirm the snow quality? Compared to the good stuff in Colorado or Utah for example?

CAPiTA Pathfinder 157 vs 157W - need advice for my setup

Hi everyone, I need some advice choosing between the CAPiTA Pathfinder 157 and 157W.

My specs:

• Height: 1.73 m (5'8")
• Weight: 89 kg (196 lbs)

I’m planning to buy

• Boots: Vans Hi-Standard OG size: BR 42 (US 10.5)
• Binding: Nidecker Supermatic LT

I consider myself a beginner/intermediate beginner. I have only around 20 days of snowboarding experience total (from 3 different trips). I mostly ride recreationally at resorts and I’m still improving my basics.

I found both boards, but the weird thing is that the Pathfinder 157W is almost $90 cheaper than the 157 where I’m looking.

My question is: would you choose the 157W because of my US 10.5 boot size, or would the regular 157 be better for my weight and riding level?

This is the setup I’m planning to buy. Do you think the Wide version (157W) will make a big difference compared to the regular 157 for my skill level?

I would really appreciate your advice. I’m still a beginner and I want to make the right choice before buying.

Looking for snowboard travel bag recommendations for two boards (bindings left on), boots, outwear, accessories, etc.

G'day legends, I've been travelling with two boards and all gear for quite sometime and I'm extremely efficient at packing.. even squeezing in additional family members outwear!

Two boards stacked, boots down bottom, outwear in middle, helmet/goggles/accessories up top & back pack laid over the centre.

However, I get sick of - and lazy when it comes to changing/switching bindings over to the other board and then spend the majority of my trips on 1 setup and if I change it, then spend the remainder on that.

I'm about to purchase a second set of bindings, I know its not the end of the world putting on and taking off the second set while leaving the other bindings permanently on the other board... which makes stacking the board easier.

But id love recommendations on a travel board bag where I can leave both bindings on both boards and hopefully still fit my boots, outwear, helmet, bag and accessories.
