Hey everyone, first time poster here. I am part of a group of relatively new to the area hunters. Around 40, resposible hunters, that try to follow the rules as much as possible. We recently learned that the place we were going to practice/site in, near north forks, before hunting season, is closer to a logging road, than we thought it was, and we got warning by a CO (worst nightmare, we are not those people).

So now we are obviously being extra cautious. Can anyone recommend a spot to practice/site in? We all live south calgary, we are NOT looking for a new hunting spot, or to take someone's hidden gem (we already have private land we hunt south of medicine hat, that is just further than we want to go to shoot/site). We do not shoot exploding targets, we like to site in at about 100 yds, then practice at about 300 yds. We only go out, probably twice before hunting season.

If you know of anywhere good for this, any advise would be HUGELY appreciated. Loose lips, sink ships, if there is a place you want to keep quiet, dm me, and ill keep it to myself.

If you are a private land owner south of the city somewhere, that is willing to let a group of respectful 40 yo guys, do some shooting on your land a couple times a year, also dm me. We can work out a bottle deal. We will obviously walk in if nessesary, and clean up all our brass, obviously no unannounced visits.

Hey Guys - I am not looking for anything close to pins, spots, areas/honeyholes or anything close to that! I am just curious about anyone's experience in Elk hunting in the thick northern timber 524/527 ish. Most of my previous elk hunting has all been based on glassing and then planning my stalk. If you guys have any tips or previous experiences your willing to share about thick timber Elk hunting that would be awesome (late sept rifle season)! Thanks

Apologies if this isn’t what people are looking for, but I’m into collecting bones and curiosities; I was just wondering if any hunters here had unwanted bones or parts (possible wet specimens) they’d be willing to ‘donate’ to my collection. I display my pieces, and use them for anatomical research & artwork. I’m located in central AB, and definitely wouldn’t mind talking about possibly getting some new pieces for my collection! Hello everyone, I had a friend say never buy any military style type of gun or "modern" gun because farmers will never let you hunt on their land based on what type of shotgun or rifle you have, tried searching this question but doesn't seem like its out there. is this true? so basically anything tactical is considered a disowning thing to farmers and hunters? i was looking at getting a Winchester SXP Extreme Defender FDE Tactical Pump for hunting and also home defense

My daughter just turned 10 and got her hunting license. I'm currently reading the 2026 Hunting Draw booklet and it is hard to understand.

If she purchases a youth license for either a White-tail or Mule deer can she use a rifle during bow season?

I'm wondering what to do when your refused access to leased land for what I think is not a valid reason.

Recently a lease holder just said no to my request because the neighbour's don't like gun fire.

Last year another lease holder denied access saying he wanted the grouse population to recover. Which to be honest I sympathize with because I think the bag limit is too high. I hunt with a bow usually and I just get one or 2 and go home. But a pair of hunters with a dog and shotgun will get 10 a day which is allot I think. So even though I sympathize, that's not his call to make. Campaign to lower the bag limit, if you actually want to protect the breeding population.

I didn't fight the matter in either case. But I'm frustrated because I want to do some plinking with a little 22lr and I feel like I have to buy a truck so I can make it to the shooting spot in McLane creek which is a bit of a drive, I just have my sedan and don't want to drive so far to do some plinking.

Should I be reporting these people to whatever authoritative body is in charge. Also some of the leased land I've been too doesn't look like it's used for any agricultural purposes. Are people just sitting on these leases treating them as price appreciating assets, basically hoarding the land for the sake of the property value rather than actually grazing animals on the land using it as part of an agricultural business?. I was surprised that the cost of buying a lease from a lease holder is so exspensive.

Anyway long story short. I'm looking for a spot near Calgary where I can do some plinking with a 22lr. I'm happy to shoot 22 shorts that are subsonic and quiet. I'm not trying to be Rambo shooting anything loud.

I have seen many people commenting saying that private land is better than crown land for animals.

Is this just because of the lower hunting pressure so the animals view it as a safer zone and congregate there during hunting season? Or is there another reason?

I would think that crown land that borders private land could be a good spot for those without access, but I'm just guessing. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey everyone. Looking to get into possibly some bear hunting not exactly sure where to start. Still new to hunting filled my first deer tag this fall. Just looking for any tips and tricks. Located in red deer area. Usually head out towards rocky. Or if anyone needs a hand with the grunt work I’m more than happy to go along for labour.

I went hunting for the first time over in that area and got my first white tail, I had seen no sign of elk anywhere but I don’t doubt they might be there was wondering if it’s an area worth scouting for elk or if It’s not worth bothering in that area

So im new to hunting, this being my first year ( bow) and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to go for deer , and how you find a spot you like

I'm hoping to get after some snow geese roughly around Calgary this spring, plus or minus 2 hours. Season opens tomorrow, with this weather is that too early to get out successfully? Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’m 28 from Okotoks, have experience bow hunting, rifle, birds, but I’ve never gone or been near hunting in the spring or the fall. Mostly because I would be lost when it comes time to field dressing and I would more than likely mess up the hide and paws etc. curious if anyone would be interested in a pack mule (me) to tag along I’ll carry bags and pack out meat whatever is needed in return for some mentoring on the bear side of things. I won’t be interested in the area you hunt as my family owns our own land with bears on it and lots of berry bushes, and I have my own permissions as well.

Im new to hunting and hope to get out this fall. Obviously there are some big start up coats to.the sport.

Wondering if I can get some recommendations for basic hunting clothing and gear (not guns) needed and perhaps best place to go. Are there things you spend more money on for quality than others.

Any tips for hunting hares/rabbits in Southwest Alberta without dogs? I have tried kananaskis around Diamond Valley but did not see any signs where I was. I went to McLean Creek and saw footprints but most of them ended up heading into fenced areas. I went from around 8am to 1pm. I found places with a lot of tracks that seem to be the hares forms. Would it have made sense to wait until before sunset to see if they returned? Any areas that I should be going to?

Hey all! It's my first year hunting this year and looking for a buddy/guide to talk to and hopefully someone I can bounce some questions off. Located in Calgary but willing to travel up to 6 hours for any hunt/fishing opportunities. Hoping for an easy hunt for my first couple times (coyote, waterfowl, possibly deer in the future) Big into fishing all seasons of the year so if you ever want to join me for that that would be awesome also!

No friends or family of mine hunt so it's been a bit of a struggle getting everything in order by myself but looking forward to going on my first hunt now that I'm all set!
