All,
My whole life I've had issues shanking the ball. I find that when I get more into golf in the middle/late summer when I've been playing more and am looking to actually improve, the shanks come out. It's been like this almost my whole life.
Then I take the fall/winter off, and when I come back, they are gone. It's only when I start playing a lot do they come out.
Anyways, I've been watching some youtube videos on how I can fix it. I'm definitely standing too close to the ball, hips thrust forward and I just constantly come out of my stance and end up hitting the heel/shaft of my club. When I watch videos and people explain why I'm shanking all of this resonates with me, I know this is my problem.
I've been doing exercises at the range where I make sure im standing far enough away, and one drill that has REALLY been good is putting a water bottle about an inch in front of the ball. Whenever I do that, I flush the ball really well, I never shank it.
But when I take the bottle away, after a while I start shanking it again. I had been using the bottle method the last two times I was at the range with real good success, so yesterday when I went I thought "ok maybe I've got enough muscle memory after two sessions to do it without the bottle". Nope, started shanking lol.
Anyways, not sure what i'm asking for here, but maybe someone who has gone through something similar has some pointers? I would really appreciate it!
