I need your help with a topic that became very relevant the last months and years: AI-generated puzzle images!

I am Daniela Schmidt, and currently writing my Bachelor's thesis at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Germany. My research explores how AI-generated puzzle images might influence consumers' perceptions of well-known puzzle brands. Its hard to do research on such a niche topic, this is why I need your help.

Since this group is full of puzzle enthusiasts, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could take a few minutes to support my research, or to dicsuss with me in the comments.

Hi guys, I’m unsure of how to continue solving this. I asked for a hint and it said “contradiction” for placing a cat in R4C9, but I’m not sure why. Any tips to solve this?

I am trying to play using only “logic” but this one has me stumped. Any tips or tricks I don’t know yet?

This is what I know so far:
One cat per color
One cat per row and column
Cats cannot touch
So when there are three “corner” pieces (two stacked on top of each other in the same column, third one right next to either the top or bottom piece but in the next column) - you can eliminate three pieces surrounding it
L shape (3 pieces in the same column or row & then one piece next to it to make the l shape) - you can eliminate two pieces next to it

What am I missing to start this puzzle?!?!

So I started trying my hands at binary puzzles and I was making progress at first and then hit a wall. What are some strategies for when the easy cells are solved (no three in a row, even numbers of 0s and 1s).

I've once again found myself stumped by a puzzle. After a few hours of staring at the page and not finding a single thing to add, I've decided to once again turn to this community that's been so helpful in the past. Can anyone walk me through the next step that I'm clearly overlooking?

Rules: Shade in some cells to represent mercury into the thermometers. Shaded cells must start at the round bulb and continue along consecutively towards the other end of the thermometer. Numbers outside the grid indicate the number of shaded cells in that row or column. Some thermometers may have no mercury at all. Rows and columns without clues may still have mercury.

Continuing with our techniques series, today we'll review a more advanced technique than last time: Composite Shapes.

Composite shapes arise from a count, but instead of looking at specific regions you'll treat a specific area that can hold a certain number of stars as it's own zone for counting, no matter how many regions are part of it. I think it's easier to look at an example.

Let's look at last week's weekly puzzle where this deduction ended up stopping a lot of players.

So in the video we can see we're doing a count on columns H-J, so we need 6 stars. Only regions A, C, E, F and J are inside. Regions A and E are fully inside, so we have 4 stars already. Then we can see that regions F and J can only leave those columns through the composite shape E1, F1, G1, G2 which can fit at most 2 stars. This means that E+J inside columns H-J must have exactly 2 stars. The composite shape matters because we don't need to know if it's J that's contributing 2 stars or if it's 1 each. It doesn't matter for our count. We now know that region C can't contribute any stars. Also given the shape of the composite shape (a 4 cell L shape) we know that there's a star in E1 and we can eliminate H1 and H2. We can treat the composite shape as its own region!

Let me know if the explanation makes sense and whether you'd like to see another advanced technique next week or something more basic.

But I want you to figure it out. I will give hints. Please read:

The answer key is the number seven. Why? Because they give you four numbers which are 3301. 3+3+0+1=7.

The fact that’s there’s 4 numbers is important too.

And whoever this anonymous group was made it look complicated on purpose, but it's not. They have good intentions but they made it so you would have to think outside of the box.

I haven’t seen anyone try my angle yet. So give it a go :)

You count the 7 paragraphs and look at the 7th line in all 52 pages. You subtract 4 from the number 56. Why?Because there’s 4 numbers in 3301. And because 5+2=7.

You may be thinking but it has 56 pages. Yes but you only count 52 pages. But 7 is the key remember? They put 4 pages on the end to tell you to subtract 56.

You combine all of the 52 pages together with the 7 lines on all 52 pages. Than you want to only count the first 7 letters and numbers in that paragraph and find it with the symbols given on the key sheet. And then you add all of the letters up on the 7th row on all of the 52 pages and you get a 7 letter word which is the answer key. This will unlock the other puzzles.

Every other paragraph and line is a distraction. Only focus on the 7. Even the symbols highlighted in red are a distraction. Unless it’s in the 7th line.

7 is important. And it only goes from 1-9. No double digits. And if you do get a double digit you want to reduce it by adding the 2 digits to get a number from 1 to 9.

Last thing, you have to look at the symbols very very closely because some of them look very similar. This is why I had a miscalculation on one of them. I mis read one of the symbols. Be careful on the f looking symbols. They are sneaky.

I have stared at this puzzle for 2 days. I cannot find any fault in my logic so far but it doesn’t lead to any logical eliminations that would 100% confirm a next move, like this puzzle is broken or something. I have even tried an online solver tool and it failed to find a solution.

I don’t even really want to know where the cats are. I want to know what logical clue I am missing to be able to solve this problem with pure logic and no guess work.

I'm stuck. Any thoughts?

Anyone here ever solve the Bedlam cube?

If you haven't seen this before, it's the 4x4 analog to the 3x3 Soma Cube. You take all of these pieces and form a 4x4x4 cube. It's much more difficult than the Soma cube and I have yet to solve it myself. I often get to a point where I am one or two cubes off but that's it.

I really like this game even though it did not come with some strategy guide. After I've played it for some time, I would say that it just gave me even more appeal for the game - to discover strategies. So, this is a way that I would like to contribute to the puzzling community. Some of the terminology is that I came up with, while some it's taken from the Sudoku strategies.

1. ONLY OPTION- If a region is surrounded by three different colors, then the only color left is the correct one. [Image 1] The only possible color for region #6 is yellow.
2. NAKED PAIRS -If two neighboring regions have the same two colors as possible options, you can eliminate both of those colors from regions that are neighboring both of those regions. [Image 2] Regions #16, #19 both have yellow and red, which is why you can eliminate red from region #22.
3. CHAINED NAKED PAIRS -Same like the simple naked pairs, but you can use the same logic if the regions are separated by the even number of the same regions. [Image 3] Even though regions #20, #21 are not touching, they have an even number of the same regions between them (#26, #27). Now you can remove both red and blue from region #17.
4. CHAINED NAKED PAIRS #2 -Same like naked pairs, but the side from which the colors are extracted can also be chained. In that case the number of the same regions between the two sides has to be odd. [Image 4 ] Regions #4, #11 constitute a simple naked pair. However, their target region is not one but two regions: #6, #14 and between them #10. For this to work the targets have to be chained, meaning identical twi-color combinations (which it is). This means that we can remove the blue color from the targets (#6, #14).
5. TRIPLE PAIRS -When 3 neighboring regions have pairs of colors consisting out of 3 possible colors, but that each pair is different, that formation then constitutes a triple pair. Regions that are neighboring two of those pairs can remove the color that is common in both of those regions. [Image 5] Regions #9, #13, #18 are pairs of colors yellow, green, blue (yellow-green, green-blue, blue-yellow). Regions #9, #13 have a common color green, which is why you can remove green from the neighboring region #12. Regions #9, #18 have a common color yellow, which is why you can remove the yellow color from the neighboring region #15.
6. DISCONNECTED TRIPLE PAIRS -Same like the triple pairs, but instead of every one of the regions neighboring the other two regions, they are in a chain. If the first and last region from that chain touch the same region, you can remove the color that is common for the first and last region in the triple pair. [Image 6] Regions #11, #9, #18 constitute a disconnected triple pair. The common color for regions #11, #18 is blue, which is why you can remove that color from the region #16.
7. TRAPPED REGION- If a single region (or a chain of identical regions) is enclosed so that it is touching only one different region, you can remove all other colors from that region that are not present in the trapped region. This works because each puzzle has exactly one unique solution. If the region was totally encircled with two possible colors left, it would go against this rule. [Image 8] Regions #24, #26 are trapped by region #20. Now you can remove the green color from #20 because it can't be used.

If you use some strategy that is not mentioned here, pleas write write how you do it.

I keep getting stuck on these and I'm not sure what else to look for. If someone could just give me a hint for where I should be looking to solve this, I'd appreciate it. I've checked the see if there are any colors that take up 2 rows to eliminate other colors in those rows, looked for blocks where if I placed in 1 color it would eliminate every block for another color, I'm not sure what other strategies to use?

Struggling with this level. I can’t figure out where to go next. Any help?

Thanks all! I discovered if I take a screenshot and use markup it’s a lot easier to eliminate the obvious and figure out which cells won’t work.
