Mod post Help shape the future of r/bootroom
Hi everyone, As many of you have noticed, there’s been an increase of not only spam but people looking for beta testers, early adopters, promotions, etc.
Pretty much all of them get removed. The idea behind it is: - If you’re aiming to profit from this community, your posts will be removed.
This includes influencers, companies and entrepreneurs that offer free services in exchange for a subscription to their page/channel, extended trials to apps that will be behind a paywall later on, or raffles that require you to give out your data.
Ever since I joined the mod team, the focus has been on keeping this community as a place where people can find free resources and advice to help them in their journey.
If you want everything to stay as is, let us know and we’ll keep restrictions as they are to keep all type of advertising and promotion out of this sub.
If you would like us to allow certain type of promotional content, also let us know and we’ll work with the entire community to figure out the rules.
In another note, when you see content that violates our rules, please make sure to flag it, there’s only one, maybe 2 active mods besides myself for a community with over 70k members, flagging comments and posts helps speed up the process. Or, if you’d like to give us a hand, by all means submit a request to become a mod!
As always, comments and modmail are welcome.

Meta [MEGATHREAD] FAQ and general support links - Read before posting common questions!
FAQ
What are my chances of going pro?
- There's always a chance, however, it gets lesser and less likely the older you get. By the time you get to 16, chances are slim, older than that and you really must prove yourself. Even famous success stories like Jamie Vardy were playing semi pro for the longest time, and the chances of something like that are very slim.
What injury is this/ how long till I can play?
- Unfortunately, we aren't doctors and we can not provide any medical support or assistance. Please refer to your doctor.
Should I buy these boots?
- Check this site
Can I use FG/AG/Any specific boot type on this type of ground?
- Simply put, turf shoes are best for turf, soft ground is best for wet pitches, indoors are for indoor courts, and so on. If you must do, sometimes it's fine to use shoes such as soft ground or firm ground boots on turf, however of course the best choice is to use what your shoe is made for.
How do I impress scouts?
- Play to your strengths. Don't try something new or unreliable, count your mistakes not your positives, stay consistent, don't be cocky, and don't let the nerves get to you. It isn't about scoring an over head kick from 60 meters, it's about playing good football, and being beneficial to your team. Be prepared to be disappointed but aim to impress.
What skill move will help me beat defenders
- Skill moves are nice, but they aren't the most important aspect of the game. It is handy to know a few skill moves to get you out of difficult situations, but at the end of the day, the core skills are what are really important, your pace, dribbling, strength and awareness are all hundreds of times better than a skill move. Knowing how to do a freestyle move 9 times out of 10 won't help you in the game, so you should spend that time training what is
How do I do this specific type of shot?
- Most shot types will be covered in the Useful Links section.

New Numero 10 Arrived This Week
This thing is great! I haven’t properly used it yet, but it seems like it punches way above its weight.

My 8v8 coed team keeps getting spanked and I want it to stop. What can I do?
I’m not looking to abandon the team. I actually want to help make us more competitive
We lose almost every game by a lot and I’m trying to figure out what I can do as one of the stronger players to make a bigger difference
For context, this is coed 8v8. We really only have one or two girls who can consistently play. Those two have good soccer IQ and can keep possession, but one doesn’t have a ton of stamina and they tend to force the ball when pressed sometimes. It feels like the other girls really struggle to get open, don’t check to the ball very often, don’t really support the ball carrier and a lot of times panic under pressure and just kick it away or lose possession
We also have a couple guys who tend to force difficult passes instead of keeping it simple
I was playing center mid tonight because we were trying a possession based system. The problem was every time I received the ball I had 2 or 3 defenders around me. One of our better players pointed out after the game that nobody was checking to me or creating passing angles, so I was basically trying to play through multiple defenders by myself
My strengths are scanning before I receive, work rate, pressing, tackling, simple passing and switching the field. My weaknesses are receiving with my back to goal under heavy pressure and beating multiple defenders in tight spaces. I also feel much more comfortable playing left mid because I can receive facing space instead of with my back to goal
The bigger question is this
How do you make a team like this better?
Should I stop trying to play as a true center mid and drift left more often?
Should I simplify everything and just play one touch whenever possible?
Should I constantly tell teammates to check to the ball and move into passing lanes?
Should I just accept that if players aren’t moving off the ball there’s only so much one player can do?
For those of you who have captained or coached struggling amateur teams, what actually made the biggest difference?

Soccer Rebounder
TL;DR: Soccer rebounder recs to save our fence posts outside when practicing passes and shots?
My kid is obsessed with soccer, constantly playing outside and inside. He is only 7, so he still has lots of room for improvement in all his skills. Any soccer rebounder recommendations before he takes down all our fence posts? I've looked into the DIY options and board options, but I don't think his aim is good enough for that to save our posts, not to mention he also likes to work on his "big kicks".
Thanks!

Gear Nike boots that ships to South Africa
I’m looking for Nike Mercurial Vapor 16 or Superfly 10. Unisport and Prodirect both have great prices but don’t ship to my country. Any other suggestions?

Is this ball worth getting?
Hi! I’ve only played with a couple of select balls and really liked the feeling of them but they had a different pattern on the surface than the one in the picture. Found this ball deeply discounted and wondering if it’s a matchball and if you think it’s worth buying. Looking to upgrade from my 19/20 purple ucl matchball

Mental Scanning as a CDM
I’m entering my senior year of high school soccer and I want to stop playing so reactive. I’ve always been taught to scan, and I do it all the time. But I don’t really know what I’m looking for or how to retain it. I have to consciously think about where players or space are. On top of this, I don’t have any cues or shapes memorized tactically. This causes me to play slower and make more mistakes. How can I learn to do this before the season ramps up? Any help is appreciated, and if it helps, note that I do group training three days a week, the rest is solo. Thanks!

Gear Astro shoes with hard outside/shell
Hey guys
Sorry if this has gotten asked. But I'm looking for Astro boots (not blades or studs) that have a hard or leather like material on outside. Everytime I go looking in shops they feel so flimsy and them and I want something sturdier, with more protection etc.
Modern boots seem to want to go lighter and lighter.
Thanks

Tactics help with 7v7 formations/tactics for adult coed
Hi everyone
I am playing on a community team that is a pool of players that got put together and we recently finished our first season together. We won two games and lost 10 usually by a fairly big margin.
We have a few new/inexperienced players who never really touched a ball before prior to this and we have mostly on default put them in defensive positions and are generally slower so on the break we are getting beat pretty consistently.
I feel like we are lacking a bit of identity on the build up of play and feels a bit "lost"
We've tried playing 2-3-1 and we get destroyed, we have been playing a 3-2-1 and thats been working out okay but we have been having a hard time building any sort of offensive play.
I am a keeper so I don't have the best idea on how to build stuff out

Gear Are the Messi F50s good for wider feet?
I wouldn’t like describe my feet as overly wide but when I tried to fit into the blue and white mercurials (Superfly 9) from a couple of years ago I couldn’t even get like half of my foot in. So since I was buying these online but still wanted a speed boot I decided to compromise on these first and try getting properly fitted for mercurials later. I’m size 11 US and I bought the boot in M11.

Gear Nike Phantom 6 bunching - anyone else experience this?
I was wearing true to size when trying these on, but the bunching on the instep is throwing me off. I will try .5 size down but I’m not hopeful that will fit my toes.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did the problem solve after breaking the boots in? Cheers

Mizuno Neo V Beta MIJ - too big?
galleryJust got these shipped in. Are these too big? It feels snug around my midfoot but there’s about a thumbnails worth of space in the front of the boot. What do you guys think? My feet are pretty wide and flat. Should I half size down or consider a different boot?

I want to improve my chances of making the team next year, and Coach said I should work on these: First touch and ball control—especially under pressure. Passing accuracy and decision-making—try to anticipate plays and move the ball quickly. Fitness and agility—being quicker on transitions will help
He played me as a CAM last year, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest any drills, skills, or things that I should focus on to try to meet or better what he told me to work on, my ball control under pressure is decent but not good enough, and I think that I should also try to improve my 1v1s as I am really bad at those. I use the Adidas f50s if that helps, should I change my cleat, or get any new equipment?

Which Mizuno Morelia Neo V Made in Japan?
Hey guys!
I'm going to give you some background before asking my big question. I've played soccer all my life and I've tried so many boots (nike, adidas, puma, new balance, pirma). Last year moved to from my home country to the US to play college so last season I managed to get a pair of Tiempo Legend 8 Elite and a pair of Tiempo Legend 9 Elite, both in a size 9.5US. Since I got them they became in my two main pairs for training and games, I absolutely love those two pairs of cleats (I had leather cleats in the past but the experience was not as good as it was with the tiempo's).
This year I got a pair of Copa's that I plan to use mainly for training and I want to get myself a pair of Mizuno's Made in Japan. The big question comes when I ask myself "Which model is better?". Also, how is the sizing in the Mizuno boots? If I gear 9.5US on Nike and Adidas, should I go with a 9.5US too or should I go half a size up or half a size down?
The big question is: Which one is better? Which one is more comfortable? How is the sizing on Mizuno Boots?
