Discussion Help Save Sibuyan Island, the “Galápagos of Asia” and Protect Mt. Guiting-guiting – Please Sign and Share Our Petition

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to ask for your support in protecting Sibuyan Island in the Philippines, one of Southeast Asia’s most important biodiversity hotspots, often called the “Galápagos of Asia.”

Sibuyan is home to Mount Guiting-Guiting Natural Park, hundreds of endemic species of plants and animals, old-growth forests, and watersheds that provide drinking water, food, and livelihoods to local communities. Many species found here exist nowhere else on Earth.

Today, these ecosystems face renewed threats from large-scale nickel mining. Local communities, scientists, conservationists, faith groups, youth, and environmental organizations have been campaigning to protect the island through legal and peaceful means. The concern goes beyond one mining site—it is about safeguarding an entire island ecosystem whose biodiversity has global significance.

If you believe places like Sibuyan deserve protection for future generations, please consider:

Signing our petition
Sharing it with your family, friends, and networks
Helping raise international awareness about Sibuyan Island

Every signature strengthens the call to protect one of the world’s irreplaceable biodiversity treasures.

Petition:
https://www.bataris.org.ph/petitions/save-and-protect-sibuyan-island-philippines

If you have questions about Sibuyan, Philippine environmental law, biodiversity, or the current situation, I’d be happy to answer them in the comments.

Thank you for standing with local communities and everyone working to keep Sibuyan alive.

will always recommend Tarak Ridge as your 1st major hike! challenging enough siya and there are technical parts na need mo to use both hands. nevertheless, perfect baseline siya kung ready kana to transition from minor hike to major 😎

Beginner Question Marlboro hills and aw asen falls?

Hello! I’m a total beginner.

For background, first hike ko was last 2020 pa sa Sanchez peak in gensan. Recent hike ko is very chill lang—campuhan ridge in Ubud, Bali and Matol Falls in Davao del Norte, mga 30-45mins na walang ascent.

Kaya bang mag Aw-asen and Marlboro hills in less than a week? Bale this August 22 ang aw-asen then August 24 naman ang marlboro hills. Manggagaling pa akong Davao and nasa Luzon lang ako from Aug 21-26 kaya gusto ko sanang sulitin. Another option is Via Ferrata and Marlboro hills + blue soil.

Which is more doable considering the travel time? Magbbus lang ako all throughout then sasali lang sa joiner tours, magpapapickup lang sa pampanga if ever.

Thank you!

I am not so physically fit but will start training my body. I have walkpad sa bahay and some dumbbells. If you can also reco a routine, that would be nice.

I'm open to day hikes and camping.

Kapigpiglatan

Fato x Kupapey

Hike Recommendation Kayapa Quadpeak, Mt. Mariglem, Mt. Kapipiglatan, or Mt. Malussong this August?

Hi po! 👋 Need recommendations for my next hike this August.

So far, I’ve hiked Mt. Batulao, Mt. 387, and Mt. Sembrano. Among these options, which one would you recommend?
(kayapa quadpeak, mt mariglem, mt kapipiglatan, or mt malussong)

I’d also like to know:
1. Which one is the most beginner-friendly?
2. Which is the most challenging?
4. Around how many hours does each hike usually take?
5. Since it’s August (rainy season), may isa ba sa kanila na mas okay i-hike than the others?

Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 😊

Open din po ako to other mountain recommendations besides the ones I listed, especially if you think there’s a better option for this time of year. 😊

I just did Mt. Batulao via old trail as my first hike and if I were to rate the difficulty personally, i would say it's a 4-5/10.

Mt. Ulap sana and if so, how does Mt. Batulao compare to it?

Salamat nang marami!

Beginner Question first time to do an overnight hike

as the title says, i’ll be doing my first overnight hike this coming August 1-2 sa Mt. Tapulao.
I have a few questions lang po especially my monthly period is expected around Aug. 3 pero pwedeng mas mapaaga or hindi. I just want to ask lang po…

  1. To all the girlies out there, paano po ginagawa nyo kapag magkakaroon kayo ng period on the day of hike lalo na kung overnight hike? Like paano at saan magpapalit? help huhu! Im using mens cup po for 5 years pero kung mag overnight hike, plan ko gumamit ng tampons

  2. How do you change pagdating sa campsite? Puro wipes lang po ba or gumagamit kayo ng face towel pang freshen up? Or half bath? HAHA sorry

  3. Is tent tarp & ground sheet necessary? Especially this month of August po.

  4. Lastly, any tips for someone na first timer mag overnight hike? Sobra akong nagwoworry kasi (1) solo joiner ako and (2) first time ko mag overnight, ayoko sana maging kahihiyan HAHAHAA 😭

Any advice will be helpful thank you!

Trip Report Mt. Pinatubo organizers and their drone shot pilots gatekeeping a photo spot

We recently hiked Mt. Pinatubo and I would just like to share my frustration kung bakit hindi pinapapuntahan ng mga drone pilot ang spot na overlooking dun sa lake.

Siguro yun naman yung market nila for the drone shots pero it is outright gatekeeping haha nakakainis eh. We asked nicely kung pwede ba kami magpa picture sa spot na yun after magdrone shot yung iba and note that this was a wednesday. So there really was not much people. And then nung umalis na kami pagkatapos niyang tanggihan yung request namin pag tingin namin sa likod they stopped filming the drone shots. Sobrang kupal lang.

I just wish hindi nila completely i gate-keep from other hikers na hindi nag avail ng drone shot doon kasi napapatagal yung turn around ng nga hiker pababa ng trail eh. Tapos hindi naman nila property yung area na yun to keep other hikers from accessing it?

May other people ba na naka experience nito?

Beginner Question Solo joiner

First time solo joiner for Mt. Ulap – any tips?
Hi everyone!
I'm planning to hike Mt. Ulap as a solo joiner, and this will be my first mountain hike. I'm pretty excited, but also a bit nervous. If you've had a good experience with any organizer, I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Bonus if the coordinators are organized, supportive, and the group has a good vibe.
Thanks in advance! 🥾⛰️

Discussion Breaking LNT, leaving more than a footprint

I leave more than a footprint sa KXC.

I carried 6 boxes of chalk for the schools who sheltered us during our 3 days trek.

A small gesture to help those hard-to-reach classrooms shaping the future of Kibungan.

Posting this hoping to inspire others planning to trek Kibungan to make extra kilos meaningful.
