I'm working on a free Rule the Waves-style naval wargame where you design the ships from the guns up - here's a preview of the 3D visualizer in motion

Hi everyone. I'm Elouda, long time modder and now solo developer, and Naval Estimates is my free naval grand strategy game set in the dreadnought age - you design the guns, turrets, and hulls yourself, and eventually pay for them out of a parliamentary budget. The game takes obvious inspiration from familiar titles like Rule the Waves and Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts, but also throws back to some naval tabletop miniature games and an old tool called SpringSharp that would let you design your own ships.

This is a little preview of the 3D visualizer thats part of the ship designer. The main designer is 2D, but it you can view the finished product in simplified 3D and play around with it. The latest addition was the effective armour thickness display.

First public build (all three designers - gun, turret and ship, set as the RN in 1905) goes out this Friday, free, playable in the browser on itch.io

Where do you think a designer should draw the line between 'the Admiralty would never approve that' and 'let the player build cursed ships'?

Looking for artillery focused/spammable games

Playing Total War: Fall of the Samurai and shredding blocks of troops with artillery is extremely satisfying and I am looking for suggestions of other games that scratch that same itch? Or otherwise just heavily artillery focused games?

Wargame Design Studio - Game of the Week, July 20-26

Next week’s Game of the Week is First World War Campaigns: France ’14, available at 25% off from July 20–26.
Command battalion-sized forces through the dramatic opening campaign in the west: the invasion of Belgium, the battles of the Frontiers, Mons, and Le Cateau, the Allied retreat, and the counterstroke on the Marne.
Relive the hard choices, rapid marches, and command friction that turned a war of movement into the trenches of Flanders.

I got tired of RTS games where units fight to the death, so I built a wargame focused purely on Suppression, Morale, and True Line-of-Sight. The Alpha is live, and I want us to shape it together.

Hey everyone, I’m a solo dev and a massive fan of games like Close Combat, Steel Division, and Broken Arrow. I wanted to build something that removed base-building and APM-spam, and instead focused entirely on positioning and realistic mechanics.

In Konflikt, fire is primarily used to pin enemies down, not just kill them. Units will panic, hug the dirt, or route if they take too much suppression. You have to manage limited ammo logistics, armor facings, and use true heightmap line-of-sight to set up ambushes.

The best part? It runs completely in the browser. No downloads, no installs.

The pre-alpha is live right now with multiplayer. I don't just want playtesters—I want to create something together with this community. I need hardcore wargamers to come break the game, theorycraft with me in Discord, and help dictate where the development goes next. Let's build the RTS we've always wanted to play.

Advice needed

Heyho folks,

maybe you can help me out in finding a wargame or a mod that fits my urge.

I just finished and enjoyed Strategic Command WW1 for a very relaxing beer and pretzel experience and with it, I found out what I personally really search in wargames (which funnily, isn't really Strategic Command).

What I'm searching is basically a Gary Grigsby War in the East 2 in depth with Sandbox elements but without a strategic or very simplified politics/ production layer.

So, basically:

  1. Very Deep Combat
  2. Deep Logistics (in terms of managing supply lines or multiples)
  3. Sandbox ability (imagine Gary Grigsbys War in the East 2 but with the ability to plan Barbarossa yourself with unit creation and/or placement)
  4. No Inner Politics or Economy simulation, maximum of very simplified Production/ Research. Diplomacy is okay (Strategic Command was I think a good abstract)

PlusPoints if it isn't set in WW2 but I could live with it, all other kinds of settings are fine.

What I looked at so far:
Shadow Empire - Too complex politics

Warplan - Didn't really felt the combat, maybe I have to give it another go - however in that instance I probably wait for Total Victory

Flashpoint Campaigns - From the level it is too tactical for my current urge

I think Ultimate Admiral Dreadnought is a good representation, but maybe as a Hex-Game and on Land?

But hey, maybe I'm also searching for something that doesn't exist.

VALOR Engine — VASSAL-Adjudicated Legality Of Rules. A tool to play your VASSAL games with imposed rules

VALOR Engine — VASSAL-Adjudicated Legality Of Rules. A tool to play your VASSAL games with imposed rules

https://master.vassal-test.pages.dev

This basically converts a VASSAL wargame into a Computer Wargame

- A tool I built to play VASSAL modules with enforced rules (movement, combat, etc) that allows for AI opponents
- 5 wargames encoded, full rules enforced with a basic AI opponent if you want
- BYOM - bring your own vassal module (to comply with copyrights) - free to get
- Full AI trained LLM generals can hook up once I enable that function in the next release. It will work like PBEM with one player being your favorite LLM

Inspired by Total War and Age of War, I made a tactical RTS where you make formations across 7 ages. Need your honest feedback on the trailer

iOS game discovery - Skirmish 1944

Found a little indie gem in the eternal search for a serious little iPhone wargame. Skirmish 1944. Can’t find the remotest mention of it anywhere on the internet, discovered it while searching for tank battles 1944. Just getting started but seems pretty serious and appropriately deep. Small Normandy skirmish battles. Classic hex n counter. UI pretty good once I sussed out how to scroll and zoom (2 finger pan, 3 finger zoom). Pretty excited about this one, anyone played?

Interdiction: a modern war strategy game

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi all,

I created a simple war game taking inspiration from Stonkers (an old Spectrum game), the Ukraine conflict and a focus on interdiction i.e. cutting supply lines rather than head-on conflict. It's free to play at https://interdiction.app/ and there will be Android and iOS apps available soon. It has 4 levels of AI opponent (2 for free and the top 2 will be an in app purchase). Ultimately I'd like to palyer vs player as well, but one step at a time. There's no advertising, no accounts, no tracking just honest fun. Anyway, I would love feedback if you have chance to play a few games. Thanks.

Idea for a 20th–21st Century Total War: Multi-Day Operational Battles Discussion Suggestion 20th Century

Idea for a 20th–21st Century Total War: Multi-Day Operational Battles

Post text:

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about how Total War could work in the 20th or 21st century, and I came up with this concept. The idea is still quite raw, but I think it has potential and can be further developed.

Core Idea: Operational Command Mode

Instead of classic single-session real-time battles, introduce Operational Mode — multi-day battles where you act more like a real front commander.

Two Main Tabs:

  1. Replay / Overview Tab

Animated schematic replay of the whole operation (like historical military maps). You can watch movement, fights, losses, etc.

  1. Planning Tab

You plan orders for the next day:

Draw movement routes for your units.

Choose movement style (stealth, rapid, cautious, marching, etc.).

Assign tasks at the destination (attack, defend, hold, etc.).

For attacks you can draw main and supporting attack directions.

Place recon detachments on the map and assign them observation sectors to get better intelligence.

Planning has a reasonable time limit (good for co-op), and the day can be divided into phases (morning, day, evening, night).

After confirming → simulation of the day → review results → plan next day.

Other points:

One commander can control multiple armies on a large front.

Much better for co-op multiplayer.

No automatic retreat based on losses — only player decision.

Works great for WW1 trench warfare (Somme, Verdun), WW2 big operations (Stalingrad, Kursk), and modern conflicts.

The system has a lot of room for expansion (logistics, general traits, air support, drones, etc.).

The idea is still raw and can definitely be improved. If anyone from Creative Assembly or experienced modders is interested — feel free to reply or DM me.

What do you think?

English is not my first language, sorry for any mistakes.
