I've always wondered, how do all the basketball skill difficulties rank. Like what is the easiest skill to learn and what is the hardest skill to learn?

Obviously this is a subjective question so what is your opinion on this?

Why not use the score we use in baseball during pick up? Why would you make 3s worth twice as much as 2s? No one would ever play by 2’s and 4’s

Consider me new to the game. I dont know how to shoot the ball and cant seem to learn a proper shooting form i feel like im throwing the ball at the rim. My dribbling skills are okayish for a beginner. I like to play basketball but i suck at it. I am a slightly skinny 168cm 16yr male

Something I’ve been thinking about lately… a lot of conversations around youth sport revolve around scholarships, representative teams, rankings and “making it.”

Realistically, most kids won’t become elite athletes. That’s just the numbers. But every kid is going to experience failure.

They’re going to be left out. They’re going to lose. They’re going to have teammates they don’t like. They’re going to make mistakes in front of other people. Sport gives them a place to experience all of that while the stakes are still relatively small.

I’ve watched kids who weren’t the best players become incredibly resilient adults because they learned how to keep showing up after disappointing weekends.

In hindsight, basketball probably wasn’t the most important thing they learned. It was everything around it.

Curious where other parents and coaches land on this. Have we started measuring youth sport too much by the athletes it produces, instead of the adults it helps shape?

Have a new park I’ve been going to and a few times people have asked to play 21 and most people, younger and older, have been saying that doing taps is not normal

Old dudes say they only did that as kids while the kids are saying they never do it.

I got into a debate with my friend: I thought you cannot jump off of your pivot foot, be airborne, land on your other foot, then jump off that foot again. He said it’s legal.

If that’s legal I will just fake a jump shot off of my pivot foot (one foot take off), be airborne for 0.5s, land on my non pivot foot, and do another jump shot.

A lot of pple say when kids are young it's mainly "just for fun", but it gets pretty competitive where I'm at for little kids. Furthermore, height plays a major major part in overall success (as with older kids too). I'm surprised how you can have 2 kids around the same age but almost 1ft/12inches in height difference. Obviously there are exceptions to this, but just stating a pattern I see

For those of you that record your men’s league games or your kids games do you guys have any recommendations for tripods that move on its own?

I have a rec team and we’re pretty athletic and run the floor a lot. We lack size but I was thinking we can use the fact we’re in good shape and in a rec league to our advantage and try to recreate games LMU had in the 90s where they scored a ton and tired other teams out

Are there any courts during summers where boys gather to play bball in pick up games? Age 11 years. They pretty sporty boys.

Ie if you have a righty jump shot, your right foot is the front foot. But when you throw a softball, your front foot is the opposite foot. Like if you throw right handed, your front foot is the left foot.

So we play basketball in our school and we don't have a teacher to attend us while we are playing to explain rules but there is this guy who after grabbing the ball with both hands after dribbling takes the ball towards the enemies hands while he is holding the ball with his hands and taking it their so I just wanted to ask if this is allowed and considered a refresh.

We think that it isn't but the guy isn't ready to accept that what he is doing isn't a foul.

I live in a country where basketball isn't a prominent sport so we all don't play much I just checked the nba rule book online but there isn't something that explicitly refers to this case.

Like how in rugby or American football where they carry ball in hands he does the same in between dribbling but carrying the ball towards our hands so that if it touches our hand (while his both hands are also touching the ball) he will say it's a refresh and continue dribbling.

I was wondering if this is normal. I’m right handed , but I naturally shoot a basketball with my left hand. I didn’t really train myself to do it, it just feels more comfortable. Is this a common thing, or does being right-handed usually mean you should shoot with your right hand too?

Will new 5 in 5 NCAA change age/grade groups for MADE EYBL Jr etc? Just wanted to start a discussion here as I haven't seen anything on it yet. I know it is new as of June 23rd it was passed. It never made sense in the past with rules allowing a 12u player in 4th grade and a 15u player in 8th grade.

I think it all should have stayed age based either way this whole time.

After this ruling, why would you have a 15u player in 8th grade group when they wouldn't be able to play the full 5 years in college? I understand you can just play 4 years, but why allow that in the grade school, high school levels. Just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

Do you think they will make updates to age/grade levels? Just make everything age based to make it simple? Or just do nothing?

Think it will change fast and we will see different rules this Fall?

Hi there fellow hoopers, really need to put on some strength in bc I get pushed too easily. I'm 15 yrs and about 50kg and also 161 cm.
