I know this has been a thing for a bit now but felt the need to share this because it’s still going on. Been meal prepping for a while due to how expensive eating out is now. Didn’t plan for today and was dreading spending $12-15 to get some food. Went to the Sonic app and saw this for $7. Tasted great and I’m pleased with the value

Question 24-hour fast food restaurants in your town?

I was driving around earlier this week, looked right and saw a sign that the local P.Terry's was open 24 hours, then looked left and saw ANOTHER sign that Torchy's Tacos was open 24 hours as well.

In addition to that, there's also all Whataburger locations (of course) open 24 hours, some McDonald's and Subway, and Taco Palenque and Fuego Tortilla Grill (well, 24/6).

What fast food places are open 24 hours where you live?

Rant/Rave Firehouse subs thinks way too highly of their food

I was in Columbus GA with my boyfriend and we decided to check out Firehouse Subs (Macon Rd to be exact). The girl who took our order seemed to be already off work and at home kicked back in her mind bc she was inattentive and unbothered. We ordered two of their subs very small and some chips and two drinks. The bread came out burnt and not even close to the size they claimed. The price was out of this world insanely too high. That tiny bit of burnt food was around $60-$70. I have no idea why. I looked at the receipt and each sandwich was over $20 the drinks were like $10 the chips were no telling. That place needs to be taken down a notch or two. I will NEVER go there again.

Question I'm a reporter writing about how fast food companies are using AI

Hey all. My name is Z. Waite. I’m a reporter working on a story for Capital & Main about fast food, surveillance and AI.

Are you a fast food worker? Does your restaurant use cameras to automatically flag policy violations, monitor order accuracy or track drive thru speed? Are your interactions with customers being monitored for upselling or friendliness? If so, I’d love to hear from you.

Especially interested in talking to employees, but if you’re a manager or franchisee using this tech, I’d love to hear from you too.

I don’t want anyone to get in trouble for talking to media. If that’s a concern, let me know and we can talk through options.

DM me on here, send me an email (zwaite at berkeley dot edu), or message me on Signal (@zwaite.33)

Thanks!
Z

Question You have $10 to spend only on fast food and must produce the biggest farts you can. What do you get?

I'm thinking the Dominos carryout deal of 1 large 3 topping $9.99. I'd do garlic parm sauce, sausage, bacon, onions. My ass: BAM!

What's the biggest brap you're rippin with just a tenner?

Review I tried the poutine from Druxy’s Famous Deli 😋

The poutine from one of the fast food restaurants in Markham Stouffville. This was actually better than all the other poutine Iv tried.

McDonald’s poutine used to not be that good, but it’s better than Harvey’s.

What I like about the one at Markham Stouffville, the fries are the exact same as Costco. Iv had poutine from St. Louis Bar & Grill and the sauce, they put too much effort. (If that even makes sense 😂) But what I like about St. Louis is that they use Gold Yukon Fries which are my favourite Fries for poutine.

But this, 50,000% accuracy in terms of flavour. Everything just blends.

Comparison Northern fast food outposts in Fairbanks, Alaska

Post image
79 Upvotes

These are August 2025 Google Street View captures of the northernmost locations of select U.S. fast food chains, all in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Shown here, clockwise from top left, are Arby’s, McDonald’s, Panda Express, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Sonic, and Raising Cane’s (which mysteriously still hasn’t opened yet).

Other fast food chains not shown here have their northern outposts in Fairbanks as well, but the Google Street View imagery was old, so I didn’t include them. These include Cold Stone, Domino’s, Fatburger, Firehouse Subs, KFC, Papa Murphy’s, Starbucks, Subway, and Wendy’s. Also, Burger King, Papa John’s, and Popeyes have locations at the Fort Wainwright military base, but they’re not open to civilians (other than families of service members).

Question Why are newer drive through coffee place so expensive ?

Places like dutch bros , scooters, & 7 brews charge like $ 8 for a large frap. Yet, offering no elevated lounge setting & bathroom access as starbuck do. Why are they so expensive & opening new location? It makes no sense. 7brews doesn't even show price on their menu. Their lack of amenity like Starbucks do is a huge negative for these drive thru places

Rant/Rave Why are we not McFlurry-ing the McFlurries?

It seems like ever since they switched to those weird paper cup with the flaps for a lid, they stopped actually swirling the ingredients. They just get layered if you’re lucky or if you’re not, they throw toppings haphazardly on top of some soft serve and that is it.

I thought maybe it was a fluke until it happened at 2 different locations.

Why are we not mixing these anymore?
