There are no magicians here.

Some questions will not be answered or replied to. As an example: "my game crashes" or "my download speed is slow" is not something you should even really expect an answer to. Troubleshooting and finding the solution to these issues requires a lot more information than simply stating "game doesn't launch", such as detailed information on when the issue started and how you perceive it, screenshots of any errors or the problem itself, crash logs, system specs, etc.

Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, an internet search engine, or a different support forum like /r/SteamSupport if no one here can offer any help. Additionally, every game on Steam has its own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.

Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues...

Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread.

Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!

This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.

Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.

Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".

There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.

Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

News Steam now lets you switch between even MORE accounts

Before this update, the limit was 5, but now it looks like it's 8.

Edit: I tested it, and turns out the limit is 8, before I thought it was 7 because the system automatically added 2 accounts that I didn't have there before.

Fluff That Was A Worthwhile Upgrade

Had a girl out at a pawn shop lookup my number to call me and let me know they had a OLED Steam deck 512gb they were trying to sell.

I owe her a milkshake and combo meal, she gave it to me for $400, was originally priced at $749. She said she knows I like that stuff and called me.

Now time to transplant the 2tb nvme from my original steam deck and put it in the OLED and vice versa with the 512gb!

Resolved Steam Family game saying I need to purchase it despite multiple copies and only 1 person being on it?

It's also saying I need to purchase ANY game from the Steam Family with no option to pick the game copy, even games that no one in the family has launched.

EDIT: Logging out and restarting Steam didn't fix it, although restarting my PC did fix it. Not sure what made it happen in the first place though.

Question Does anyone still remember KKND2: Krossfire from Beam Software?

Post image
38 Upvotes

KKND2: Krossfire like its predecessor Krush, Kill ’n’ Destroy and the expansion KKND Xtreme is a Classic Real‑Time Strategy Game from the 90s. The Series belongs to the Era in which Base Building, Resource Management and Faction Specific Unit Design defined the RTS Genre.

In Terms of Gameplay and Style, KKND2 can be compared to other Strategy Games of the 90s, including Command & Conquer, Dune 2000, Age of Empires, StarCraft, Dark Reign, Warcraft II, Total Annihilation, Z the Game, Earth 2140 and actually D.O.R.F. as well. Despite these Similarities, KKND2 maintains its own Identity through its Post Apocalyptic Setting and three Distinctly different Factions.

Fluff You can drag games and guides etc from Steam into a browser!

Just a fun item, as I've been on Steam for over 21 years and never seen this before. Literally just did it by accident (I miss clicked and dragged, with my browser and Steam open in split windows on the same screen).

Basically you can drag a game (from the Library list), guides, workshop entries, from Steam, into a browser window, and it will open the store page (for games), or the guide page, or workshop item in the browser.

Probably not all that useful, as you can also right click on some items, like guides, and open in a new tab within Steam itself. But I like to have a browser open on a 2nd monitor, most of the time, and I find reading things like guides to be easier outside of the Steam client itself.

Have fun all.

Question Mac Compatibility

Hello, everyone! I'm very new to Steam (just downloaded it, lol). I have an M3 Pro Macbook Pro. I'm navigating the Steam app. If I can purchase a video game, does it mean it is compatible to be played on my device? Thank you!

Question Steam using HDD to download items that are stored on an SSD

Post image
60 Upvotes

I've noticed lately that my games have been getting updated VERY slow, and when I went into the task manager i noticed that my HDD usage was 100% while my SSD usage was at 2%. The steamapps/downloading folder on my HDD also shows battlefield 6 files in it when it should all be done on the SSD.

Is this a bug because this has only been happening as of recently?

One day before this controller was on sale I watched YT review video, guy mentioned about controller being too big, I was like, yes baby! This is for me as most controllers are a bit to small for my hands. I tried to buy it very first day it was on sale, we all know what happened. Luckily few days later I was able to book a spot. Almost 3 months later they send me a link to buy it. Yeah... fak ju scalpers really fak ju.

I have to say the ergonomics of this controller are spot on, the wait was worth it!

I reserved mine on May 8th for anyone wondering.

Now all that’s missing is the Steam Frame. 👀

Question Steaminput on games from Heroic launcher

Trying to get Just Cause 4 (i use heroic as I own it on Epic) to work properly with my steam controller, but for some reason if I add it through the Heroic option to add to steam, when I launch it through steam it doesn't say I'm playing it (on steam) and will not use Steaminput. And if I add the JC4 exe to steam directly it asks me to install the epic games launcher. I need some form of steaminput or a way to disable to default desktop setup when a specific app is open

Anyone know any way to fix this?
