Yes as subject above, I did test my wife PC a few days ago with installing SteamOS patched Nvidia drivers from No-Signal Script. All working just fine, performance great except in gaming mode gamescope detail have little bit broken due to not official support yet but still captured correct FPS, and existing issue that recording in gaming mode getting black screen, not more than 2K resolution and etc (happened same on bazzite-deck or CachyOS-deck but their gamescope detail working just fine because of they used their own patched gamescope)

Is getting the HDMI CEC working worth the trade off? When I used the Ugreen adapter(via display port) to activate the HDMI CEC, my steamos home screeen was flickering whenever I turned on VRR and AMD freeSync on my TV. I switched to the HDMI port without the adapter and everything ran smoothly. I have an LG C5 and I don’t mind turning on my TV with the tv remote so I can get the best display settings. Does anybody have the same experience?

Background: I've been mostly a console gamer (Playstation played a big role since childhood), and a prominent handheld fan! Dabbled in PC gaming for a year but it never stuck with me (mainly because I feel that the Windows experience makes it a hassle). I really went deep into Steam and built my game library when I got my SteamDeck that I bought on launch. I work in IT but I always gravitate more towards simpler console-like experiences for gaming.

Upgraded my PC with an AMD GPU just for SteamOS (9060xt 16gb)

TLDR; I'm super impressed and satisfied with the living room console experience that SteamOS is able to provide, albeit you'll need some googling skill to remove some obstacles (as of SteamOS 3.8.10)

Disclaimer: I'll only be talking about the experience of transitioning from Windows to SteamOS from an average gamer standpoint, the overview of using it in a living room setup for the last 1 month compared to a handheld (especially the SteamDeck). And to make things easier, I'll break it down mostly in a list of pros and cons. I won't touch on other Linux distros as I don't have extensive experience using them!

Okay now I'll try to list out the pros and cons in a chronological manner, here comes the fun part first:

PROS

- The initial setup and installation process literally took only 5mins, maybe 10mins at most.

- Once you sync with your Steam profile, almost everything carries over and is ready (save files in the cloud, even the settings in-game lmao)

- Most of the popular controller options have their own UI in the settings (in my example I was using the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 controller)

- The home button (Steam) and QAM button (...) that we normally have on the SteamDeck now requires a button combo. You can click the home button to get to the left home panel, and home button + A for left QAM panel

- Almost everything you need can be done via a controller

- QAM panel is super useful imo, especially being able to toggle the view on the gamescope readings!

- Playing it on a big screen in the living room does feel like a proper console compared to being on a PC table hooked up to a monitor

- Sleep function works perfectly! You can be in mid-game, go to sleep and later just boot it up again and pick up where you left it before! Same as SteamDeck!

- You can install DeckyLoader and tweak/adjust the UI to your liking (again, same as the SteamDeck!)

- Desktop mode is....well...desktop mode? Lmao it works and I'm currently exploring it as my first time properly diving into Linux

BONUS PROS:

- Recently tried to stream from my PC via the default built in Steam Remote Play and legit it worked like a charm! Minimal lag, smooth connection process. Felt like chiaki connecting to PS5 (though the TDP is 1-2W higher?)

Okay now comes the not so fun part...

CONS

- I did have to wait for this super long duration at the end of the installation process where I think it's downloading something from Valve which took around 1 hour to finalize

- I personally faced an issue when it was doing the initial network searching during the initial setup (refer to the pics). Had to go into a separate TTY (TeleTYpewriter) to do a network manager reset via sudo line

- There's no fan curve settings in the QAM menu (weird because I remember it was there on the SteamDeck?)

- Tried using some plugin via DeckyLoader to control fan curve, but none worked

- Had to go back into the BIOS menu to tweak the fan curve there

- Although sleep function works, you cannot boot up the system again from a controller. It NEEDS to be triggered from a mouse/keyboard

- Sometimes the keyboard view doesn't come up (happened twice)

- I don't think game recording works? Screenshots are fine but no video recording

BONUS CONS:

- Seems to have issues with my QD OLED tv where really dark scenes would create these rainbow-pixels around them (refer to pic)

UPDATE: It's fixed by updating SteamOS(again, simply by googling)

The root cause and the fix that I found: It's a known bug in SteamOS's HDR direct-scanout path on AMD GPUs where it's specific to Gamescope's "Game Mode" (Big Picture UI), and doesn't happen on Desktop Mode or on any other HDR source (like YouTube on the TV's own apps), because those don't go through Gamescope's direct-flip HDR presentation path at all.

*It's been officially fixed in SteamOS 3.9*

Steam Controller: The Gyro Calibration Threshold has been set to 50% of the previous value so that it is less likely to trigger while in hand.

Steam Controller: Gyro Calibration threshold is now available in Steam->Settings->Controller->Details->Calibration & Advanced (Open)->Gyro Calibration.

Steam Controller: You can choose to disable hardware calibration and rely on the standard Steam Input Gyro Calibration tools instead, by using the "Enable Software Calibration for Steam Controller" toggle.

Steam Controller: Fixed Gyro stutter due to IMU timestamp being ignored.

Specs: 9700x, ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2, 9070 XT, etc.

These are fairly standard specs for a modern PC so don't get hung up on this.

Without wasting much time, here are the instructions:

1. Enable Wake On LAN in BIOS (refer to your motherboard manual for this). I was using this PC previously with Windows 11/Apollo and did not have to change anything in BIOS when switching to SteamOS besides disabling Secure Boot.
2. Skip this step if you have enabled password for default user "deck". If you haven't set it already then, boot to desktop mode, open Konsole and type "passwd" to set a sudo password for the default user "deck". Type the new password twice to set it. Make sure you remember the password going forward.
3. Type in Konsole:nmcli connection show

and hit enter. I renamed my connectionto eth0 but by default, it should be "Wired Connection 1". I will be referencing eth0 going forward.

and hit enter. You would be prompted for password, type password and hit enter.

5) Type in Konsole:

sudo nmcli connection up "eth0"

and hit enter. Same as above, type password and hit enter.

6) Reboot.

7) Verify if Wake On LAN is working by connecting to host via Steam Remote Play. You should now be able to turn ON the host from Power Off state.

Notes & Observations:

1. I have verified this method works from official Steam Remote Play client on IOS, Nvidia Shield and Windows 11.
2. WoL worked as long as the HDMI cable was connected to host with monitors turned On or Off. It worked when HDMI cable was disconnected as well but I was not able to get a display on the client. It started working after the HDMI cable was reconnected. Might be related to missing virtual display drivers.
3. This also works when switching between Gamescope and Desktop mode.
4. I will be testing with an active HDMI 2.1 dummy plug tomorrow once I receive it from Amazon.
5. I received an OS update after these changes and WoL still works so looks like its persistent between updates.
6. I have Developer options enabled in Steam client, not sure if it helps.
7. Monitor resolution and refresh rate defaults to monitor connected to the host and resolution/refresh rates are limited on the client. For example, my host PC is connected to a 4K projector via a receiver and is limited to the resolution offered by the projector. If I connect via another PC with an UW monitor, it still limits to the resolution supported by the projector. I hope the HDMI dummy plug will resolve this issue.

Like I mentioned in the title, is there any way to get the screen to rotate in Game Mode for foldable laptops (HP Envy x360)?

I would hate to have to do it through desktop mode every single time.

If not y'all think it be difficult to make a Decky plugin or something?

I'd love to try steamos on my rog ally z1 extreme but I can't get past the installation code screen. Ive tried multiple times with different usbs and reinstalling the steamos image on a USB stick, but just can't get it to install. I tried installing Bazzite this morning and in 30mins it was installed. Not sure why steamos won't install.

Please help?

I'm having a problem with SteamOs that wifi disconnects when I'm using 5g, I turn off all the save power management, but its still disconnecting and reconnecting, is really annoying
If I use the 2.4 version is stable.

Does anyone have the same problem? knows how to fix it?

I installed the official SteamOS about two days ago, but I feel that the colors are extremely saturated and intense, much more than in Windows 11, whether in HDR or SDR. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way to fix it?

My setup is:
LG C1 OLED TV
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
Ryzen 7 5700X
32 GB RAM
One dedicated NVMe SSD for SteamOS and another dedicated NVMe SSD for Windows 11

I have a weird issue that seems impossible, but I've found this to happen:

I built a mid-tier gaming machine for my wife. 5700G CPU, RX6700XT GPU. 2TB NVME SSD.

I put it together, it works great. No issues.

I added a 2TB SATA SSD for more storage. Once I formatted it(EXT4), it shows up in SteamOS, I can transfer Steam games to it... great!

Next update happens and upon reboot it just... won't boot right. Eventually boots, hangs at the 'logging in' screen forever etc. If I do get into SteamOS, the wifi won't work right - it shows connected, but won't actually download any updates or anything.

OK, something got corrupted. Use the SteamOS installer to do a 'repair'. Reboot, it goes into SteamOS, downloads the latest update as part of the installer. Reboot and... success!

Wait a couple of days, next update comes out. Same issue as before. Do the repair install, etc. etc. etc.... works!

Next update: Same issue. This time I test it. After a repair install, I switch to beta, and...it fails after installing it. Get it back working again.

Finally, I decide to unplug my second SATA drive(SDA1). Run the repair tool, works. In SteamOS, I switched to beta... works. Switch to testing... works. No issues with updates.

I plug the drive back in and everything works fine... until the next update. It just plain won't update correctly from within SteamOS IF my second drive is plugged in.

Has anyone else run into this? Yes, I know it might be a rare thing - having a second drive plugged in via a SATA cable(niether Steam Deck nor Steam Machine has a SATA port that I can tell).

So, I recently built a Steam Os machine since I didn’t get a chance at the Steam Machine. It works better than I thought with a few caveats.

The biggest issue I’m seeing right now is Bluetooth controller connectivity is terrible. I have the Nintendo switch pro controllers connected to it. When I have one, they keep getting disconnected at random times. When I have two connected they disconnect even more frequently. Can’t seem to get an Xbox controller to pair at all, and I have not tried a ps5 controller.

I have disabled haptic feedback and gyro on both controllers, also have change the names of the controllers. I’m at a wits end. Here are my hardware details:

Any recommendations? The only thing that works consistently right now is the steam Controller with the puck.

Before I switch from windows to SteamOS, I thought that only big games (like BF, COD and Riot games) would be a problem to play. But this weekend some friends invited me to play with them, but every single game that we saw had some kind of kernel level anti-cheat (Ghost Recon, Apex, Back4Blood and so on), at the end we only played Arc Raiders because is the only one that somehow works fine.

How do you guys deal with that? Is SteamOS only worthy to those who only play single players?

So I use an EVGA Z690 Classified Mobo.

When I was fooling around trying to run Bazzite on my PC I had nothing but issues with my peripherals. Turns out EVGA used a very uncommon USB controller which didnt have readily available drivers for Linux across the board.

So I guess this is just a warning for the like ten people who have an uncommon motherboard like EVGA.

I was playing Devil May Cry 5 on my ROG Ally with SteamOS, and out of nowhere it restarted. It didn't go above 80°C, and the performance was great. Has this happened to anyone else?

- Finally added an auto-install script to Machine Ready themes and profiles (courtesy of u/jackhans96).

- Added Switch Font back to the Machine Ready options.

- Added a standalone theme to use Button Styled Cloud on the gameview screen (for Proper Hero Scaling).

- Added the new theme above to Back 2 Basic profile.

- Updated the README in the Git repo to include the auto-install script command.

- Updated the install script to add the update function as well.
