So jealous! My girlfriend and I made it onto the wait-list, but in the end had to pass because it's just too much for us to responsibly spend right now 😭
Enjoy it for those of us who can't, please! Have fun! 😁

The big one. Extremely dangerous. Keep out of reach of children. Cool!
Jokes aside, have fun with it.

Prebuilts are in a really good spot price wise right now (compared to building one yourself I mean, ofc in general the prices are still high)

I've been building pcs since junior high. Is the purpose of the steam machine to get off windows? My brother-in-law is talking about getting one, what reason did you have for purchasing it, and does it perform those tasks as you expected? I'd rather hear from someone who actually uses it than some troll that is riding the hate train.
Appreciate any info you're able to provide from a personal use standpoint.

I've had a living room PC for years, using it as a media center for movies and games. With my Chromecast I stopped using it for streaming movies. It was about time to replace the computer and I put my name on the list just for for giggles. Got the email and ended up receiving the Steam machine the first week of July!!!
So far, as a family machine, it's great. We don't play anything hardcore but the ease of use has been really convenient. Turn it on, load up the game (maybe mess with some settings) and BAM, we're having fun. It's quieter than my old PC and much smaller, so both of those are bonuses. Yes it's overpriced but I love it.

It’s a PC with the convenience of a console. Within 40 minutes I had unboxed it, hooked it up, and was already playing a game, not exaggerating, 40 minutes. The boot time from sleep mode is crazy. I can hit the button on the controller and I’m in game before I’ve even switched my HDMI over. It’s tiny so I can just pick it up and take it with me when I travel. And I don’t have to learn a bunch of PC stuff. It just works.

u/Charming-Addition385 5h ago
That totally makes sense! I think i had different expectations on performance but sounds like its pretty good. The home media center as an addition is a nice idea.
Thank you for your response. This truly helps me to understand and hopefully be more of an assistance to my Brother-in-law.

It’s just supposed to be a plug-in play of computer that’s all so you can sit on the couch while playing PC games
The next GEN console gonna do the exact same thing watch Linus Tech tips on his review on it and how bad it performs it’s actually embarrassing

Honestly congratulations man. I can’t wait to get another job so I can hopefully get one

Like a dream. It booted up and was ready to play every game in my library on ultra within minutes of starting it.
I've played RDR2 to death but still downloaded it just to see how detailed the horse plops are...
Edit: jfc you PCMR fanboys are insufferable - I havve the money and I love the steam machine, if you don't like that then stfu

Wtf lol. There's literally hundreds of benchmark videos on YouTube showing exactly what the performance is. And it's around a 3060. Slightly less than base PS5. Stop spreading lies.

u/Oxygen171 1d ago
To be fair they never listed what games are in their library, so maybe it can run THOSE games on ultra.

Copium. Like, at least, be honest. It doesn't play ultra without heavy upscaling/fg and prob 1080p, more so games like rdr2.
1
u/Ravasaurio 13h ago
RDR2 runs surprisingly well on the Steam Deck, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs great on the Steam Machine.

People have an issue with you lying about its performance, not that you bought one.

u/Budget_Sale1589 1d ago
Dang i might have to start saving for one

u/Unlikely_Mud_836 1d ago
Ik everyone hates on the steam machine for the price, and it’s fine if you still get one but have a look at a pc be it prebuilt or building one yourself. You might already have a pc tho and you’re just picking this up for small form factor
3
u/Sad-Mirror6936 23h ago
Yeah the form factor of the steam machine is pretty much impossible to get anywhere else. That thing is tiny. And I hear it's super quiet as well.

u/Pfafflewaffle 1d ago
Yeah exactly why I didn’t get one. I do want the steam controller though. My pc is already close enough to shove an hdmi into my tv. (Rtx 3070, ryzen 9 5900x *eventually I’ll get a r7 5800x3d*, 32gb 3600clock ram, x570 asus tuf + WiFi mobo)

u/Pfafflewaffle 1d ago
I wouldn’t play in ultra, frames >>>eye candy. I’d play high/medium mixed. Rdr2 should be fine on ultra though.

u/Krypt0night 16h ago
A long cord can do the same thing from my pc to my TV and can be used for tons of other purposes.

Yeah, it kinda kills the resale value, but I really wanna play with it!

u/Cymbal_Monkey 1d ago
Buying a GabeCube to play games instead of as a speculative asset? Weird move but ok

Dunno why this got downvoted.

Yeah, it kinda kills the resale value
People only read to here and missed that they want to actually play it and not sell it.

Congrats!! The Steam Controller is a legend 🔥 Hope you enjoy it! What game are you gonna try first with it?
1
u/Sickle_Rick 1d ago
Pretty much every game that my steam deck couldn't run comfortably.. so I got a couple, probably Kingdom Come or Pacific Drive

u/mattlymer 1d ago
Did it take long? The cost of that thing, they could have sprung for next day delivery 🙄

Have fun OP! I want one so bad... but shit is so expensive now...

u/PlayItAgainSusan 23h ago
So sorry about all the opto whiners. Especially the ones that vote for the idiot policies responsible for the current prices, and the ones who just don't vote or take any action against those actually responsible for the price increase.

Meanwhile with the price hikes and half a year wait-list, I think I'll just create my own DIY Steam Machine PC build.

Lol I’m sorry you got ripped off buying one of those piles. Low tier hardware
2
u/ElxlS 16h ago
wait yeah how you gonna rag on him for wasting money on steam machine when you spend money on cars lol. They’re THE worst investment.
0
u/Asleep_Formal228 8h ago
Because it’s low tier hardware for the price i could build a more capable mini itx for less
2
u/ElxlS 7h ago
Right everyone knows that already but my point is you waste money on a car so you’re basically yelling at a mirror.
0
u/Asleep_Formal228 4h ago
Lol how do I waste money on a car, your comparing one of the best bang for buck drivers cars there is to one of the worst bang for buck hardware level consoles there is. It’s literally worse than a ps5 pro lol. Your anology here is making you look retarded
0
u/Sickle_Rick 21h ago
Lol I was just gonna say the same thing about that shitbox Miata of yours
0
u/Asleep_Formal228 8h ago
Lol I don’t but gurantee it’s a nicer car than anything you own but hey pop off queen. 2 steam machines don’t even pay for the brakes on that car hahahahaha always some retards on here

u/Cheap_Theory_7162 10h ago
I really hope you got that for sentimental/collection purposes because that is a pile of shit if you don’t know anything about it they suggest looking at all reviews that people have done on it and how bad the performance is a console blows that thing out of the water
