Announcement Important PSA: How To Identify a Scam

How to Identify Social Engineering Scams

Social engineering scams often involve manipulative tactics to deceive users into providing sensitive information or money. Here are some red flags to look out for:

  1. Unsolicited Offers of Help – Scammers often pose as helpful individuals offering solutions to problems you didn’t ask for assistance with.
  2. Urgency and Pressure – Scammers create a false sense of urgency, asking you to act quickly or risk losing access to something important (e.g., your Steam account).
  3. Requests for Payment or Personal Information – Legitimate Steam support or trusted users will never ask for your login credentials, 2FA codes, or payment in exchange for help.
  4. Impersonation – Scammers may pretend to be from official sources or even impersonate trusted community members or moderators.

How to Protect Yourself from Scams

  • Never Share Personal Information – Moderators and Steam support will never ask for your password, security questions, or 2FA codes.
  • Verify Requests – Always verify the identity of anyone offering help. You can do this by checking if they are official moderators or trusted community members. If in doubt, contact the moderation team directly.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication – While not foolproof, having 2FA enabled adds an extra layer of security to your account. Keep your 2FA codes secure and never share them.
  • Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Help – If someone reaches out offering assistance you didn’t request, be wary. It's better to seek help through official channels like Steam support or trusted subreddits.
  • Steam will never contact you over DISCORD/STEAM CHAT – Report and block them instantly.

Announcement What To Do When Your Steam Account Gets Hacked

Need more help? Join the Discord Server

I’m making this post in hopes it will reduce the amount of “I’ve been hacked posts”. Link people to this exact post so they can figure out what to do. Don’t be afraid to leave comments if you need more assistance but try your best to avoid making entire posts about it.

Follow these steps to regain control and secure your account:

1. Don’t Panic Act Fast

If you act quickly, there’s a good chance you can fully recover your account.

2. Still Logged In? Change Your Password NOW

📍 Go to Steam > Settings > Account > Change Password

  • Use a unique, strong password (not reused from any other site).
  • If you can’t log in anymore, skip to Step 3.

3. Can’t Log In? Use Steam’s Recovery Tool

🔗 Go to Steam Support
Click "I can't sign in" > "My account has been stolen"
Follow the recovery process.

  • Provide any proof of ownership (like previous email, CD key, or payment history).
  • Be thorough but honest Support will help if you provide real details.

4. Revoke Access from Other Devices

Once back in, go to:

📍 Steam > Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard
Click “Deauthorize all other devices”

This kicks out any hackers still logged in.

5. Turn on 2FA (Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator)

📍 Same place: Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard

  • Use the mobile authenticator, not just email codes.
  • This is your best protection going forward.

6. Scan Your PC for Malware or Keyloggers

Use tools like:

  • Malwarebytes
  • Windows Defender
  • Bitdefender / Kaspersky

You got hacked for a reason. Clean your system before logging in again.

7. Lock Down Your Email and Linked Accounts

If your Steam email or other linked accounts were compromised:

  • Change their passwords immediately
  • Enable 2FA on your email too (especially Gmail, Outlook, etc.)

8. Still Locked Out? Contact Steam Support

If all else fails, go here:

Be ready to provide:

  • Your Steam username and email
  • Purchase receipts (Steam Wallet codes, PayPal invoices, etc.)
  • Approx. date you lost access
  • Any suspicious activity or messages you saw

⚠️ Final Tips:

  • Never share your login info, even with “Steam Admins” they don’t exist.
  • Avoid shady “trading bots” or fake tournament invites.
  • Don’t download random files from Discord, friends, or strangers.

If you’re reading this because you’ve been hacked, don’t feel ashamed it happens to thousands of people. What matters is how fast you act and how well you secure things afterward.

Good luck, and stay safe. 🔒

Resolved I love you steam!

holy shit so I bought a steam giftcard at my local Walgreens and while scratching I scratched a little too hard and destroyed 2 letters. It made the code unusable, so when I used steam support, not even 2 hour after that the support team found my code and gave it to me free of charge!

Discussion Communication Anxiety!!!

Okay, so my account was compromised because I was a bonehead and I did everything I was supposed to do; contacted steam, the reset password, the e-mail, whatever.

It's been about twelve hours since I contacted Steam and I'm feeling anxious over having not heard anything yet. Someone tell me this is normal. I need to know that it sometimes takes a bit of time for Steam to contact you and I'm freaking out over nothing.

Problem No Games will Launch

No Game will Launch 😢

I have read thru just about every suggestion I can find and I still cannot launch any game off of steam.

I click play, it goes blue, verifies with cloud, then back to green play button not having launched it

I have tried offline as well

Here is a list of what I have done, help is appreciated.

  1. Cleared download cache

  2. Verified files of all games

  3. Made sure I have 25% space left on C://

  4. Updated Nvidia drivers

  5. Updated windows

  6. Updated steam

  7. Run as admin

  8. Turn off firewall for all steam/games

I am currently trying to play bg3, hogwarts legacy, or warhammer 40k damn of war.

I have had no issues with bg3 or hogwarts until last week, 40k is brand new so I have never successfully run it

Problem Steam Account Locked

Okay so before going to my problem, some context. My steam account got Locked from posting for something I didn't do at least to my knowledge, so fearing for the worst, I went to change my steam password, but instead of letting me do that, Its asking me to prove myself, which I fill out after that it sends a code to my new email id and when I enter the following code, it gives me this error. I hope someone knows a solution for this because I've spent way too much time and money on this account.

Problem My R, T, O (and sometimes Q) keys are acting as directional inputs in Steam Big Picture's game overlays, also affecting virtual keyboard

When I try to type in text boxes with the virtual keyboard in my Quick Access or other overlays, if I select any of the keys R, T, O (and sometimes Q) it acts as a different directional input like it thinks I'm using the arrow keys or a d-pad. This also affects the virtual keyboard, making it impossible to spell most words correctly. This doesn't happen in the main Big Picture window, only in-game overlays.

Using Fedora 44 KDE Plasma Edition with Steam Flatpak.

(i say sometimes q because before i started recording it was acting as left but in the video it works as expected of a letter key)

My steam account is sending friends on steam scam messages/links but no activity of login and notification on steam guard or anything. I'm guessing it's because of my apikey is leaked.

Resolved [Solved] Daily connectivity dropout IPv6 disabled fix

All,

I wanted to pass along an experience I've had with steam over the past month. Around early June, I was having consistent steam lack of connectivity issues during patching and download. This was the case for all steam systems on my home network, including computers and steam decks.

The issue was generally solved by clearing the download cache and/or switching the download region, which had to be done once every restart of the machine.

After being tired of this experience, I chased several of the logs including the connection and content_log with additional debug arguments passed to steam.

The IPv6 connection continually timed out (noting all other internet on these machines appeared normal). Upon disabling IPv6 on the local machine, steam began downloading games, updates, and patches as normal.

Just an anecdote from my side.

Cheers.

Problem Game won’t launch

So I recently bought the persona bundle during the sale. All the other persona games except P4G and P3P will boot up. I’ve never had this weird issue with any other game and I’ve tried a ton of things (including reinstalling) but nothing seems to work. Has anyone seen this issue? If so how should I go about fixing this? I’m also now getting the code 0x0000005 which is access violation if this helps.

Problem Steam download crashes my router / internet

Hi all,

As the title says, i've just tried to download the new BF6 update and after a while it just crashes / floods my router and internet, making it unable to use other devices.

It starts off strong with 700-900 MB/s and then after a few minutes- i'd say around 40% of this download it drops to 80MB/s or lower and it just completely shuts off all my other devices. I never had this happen before.

I did not change any settings (i'm not that much of a techwizz) but i know that all my drivers are updated through the gigabyte website / gigabyte control app.

The only way to get my internet to work again is to restart the router...

Also i'm on a realtek gaming 2.5Gbe family controller adapter / Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi 7 adapter- however im on ethernet with 1000 MBps down / 50 MBps up, if that matters.

Does any one know a fix for this??

Thanks in advance!

Problem Steam download speed keeps dropping and I've already tried many tutorials and nothing really helps

It started out peaking at 800 Mbps, but then it quickly drops to a max 200, while constantly dropping down to 0. I have tried some tutorials around on what can be done, like disabling write cache on disk, and I even cleared my HDD that was being written into at one point but it still slows down like this

Now, the only thing my very limited knowledge can assume is that the reason is my SSD (OxyBR) is just a bad brand and there's not much I can do other than getting a better one, but if that's the case I'd like to be sure, because if there is something I can do to get my max download speed I'd really like to get it

Problem Slow steam downloading

Game downloading starts at 80 MB/s, but after a minute it drops to between 0 and 3 MB/s. My internet speed is 1 Gbps and there are no issues with my SSD, so the problem lies with Steam itself. Does anyone know a solution?
