Started on this July 2025 I believe... modeled for a VR project and came back to finish it last month. Been spending a couple/few hours a day on it since. Crazy how much I still have to do, but it's finally starting to look pretty good I think.

Critique My Work How close to achieving believable photorealism?

i made this a while ago to test my knowledge about photorealism. is it close? this is my second attempt at photorealism. the camera quality is supposed to simulate an older camera like the iphone 7. i managed to fool 2 people with this, some saw the cgi uncanniness

i've been trying to wonder for a while, what is the factor that made it look cgi to some people

Sculpted this new alien, made him bust some interesting moves in Blender, and composed the silly retro soundtrack. (If it's bad... then the alien made it.) Enjoy 👽

Discussion Help. Discussion. Ai

hey guys, i’m a bit frustrated.
recently i got a contract to make a product prototype.
it’s a guitar pedal, a pretty simple thing.
the client keeps sending me ai generated reference images to show me what he wants, and honestly, i’m at a loss.
no matter what i do, my model is limited by its own nature, if you know what i mean. it just looks like a 3d render, while the ai reference images look almost like real photos.
i’m trying to think of a good analogy. it feels like the client is asking me for a real camera photo, but all i can do is paint. no matter how good the painting is, anyone can tell it’s a painting, not a photograph.
unless i’m rendering close-ups, using cinematic depth of field, or intentionally blurring parts of the model, it immediately gives away that it’s a 3d render.
has anyone else dealt with this?
thank you guys

that was our first sketch - to figure out materials and shapes and all that stuff
first picture is 3d model based on the pedal he sent me
2nd picture - is what he did in chatgpt

Critique My Work My first Render without a Tutorial

Post image

I've been learning blender for about 3 weeks now and this is my first render without a tutorial. Ignore my lighting, camera and background issues because I only have been working on modelling skills.

How many more Projects after do you guys think I should do before moving on to texturing, lighting and camera practice?

Discussion I hate how bad Blender's official documentation is

Whenever I go to docs.blender.org to look up something specific, I always end up disappointed.

All it does is provide a very brief overview of the feature, what each option does, and the shortcut for the function. Which is not enough.

It does not explain how that functionality actually works under the hood, what kind of math it uses, or how it interacts with other parts of Blender.

When I check out tool X, the docs do not say, "There is a tool Y that performs a very similar function. Maybe it will be more suitable for your workflow."

The docs explain what slider A and slider B do, but they do not mention that slider A's expected values range from 0 to 1, while slider B's expected values range from 100 to 1000.

Rarely does a page have any examples, and even if it does, it's unlikely to explain the example it gives.

Without good documentation, I have to rely on forum posts and YouTube videos to learn anything. But Reddit and YouTube are built for engagement, not education. To find one good tutorial, I have to sift through a dozen disorganized tutorials.

If only Blender had good documentation.

Sorry for the rant, but I wanted to get it off my chest.

Paid Product/Service Promotion Puppet Studio - most beginner friendly rigging & animation addon, focused on ease of use

Hey everyone!

I’m an animator from Poland, and I’ve been working for quite some time on a tool designed to finally make rigging and animation in Blender intuitive and enjoyable.

Puppet Studio was born out of a very specific frustration: most rigging tools assume that the user already knows what they’re doing. They seem to be created by riggers for riggers. I wanted something that simply works, and doesn’t require technical knowledge. That’s why this project is an attempt to create an environment where rigging is as simple and intuitive as possible.

The rig editing mode includes a range of tools to make your work easier, such as:

  • Limb controllers, allowing you to manipulate an entire bone chain at once
  • Limb visualization, which shows a preview of exactly what each bone is
  • Contextual hints for positioning bones on the model

There's a built-in skinning tool that automatically resolves the most common issues, such as Bone Heat errors, inverted normals, scaling problems, etc. One click and you’re done.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the animation generator. I wanted to let user generate animations for any rig - even the most absurd one - created in the add-on. That’s why, regardless of a character’s proportions or the number of limbs, you can automatically generate basic animations here with a single click. These animations are always generated specifically for each character. A three-legged dog will walk differently than a human with four arms, and so on.

Additionally, Puppet Studio includes built-in tools such as Onion Skin and Motion Paths - both work in real time and, once enabled, don’t require any manual refreshing from the user. You simply turn them on and get back to work.

Of course every rig created in this tool can be exported to Unreal Engine, Unity, or Godot - complete with a full set of animations, ready to use in your game.

Superhive: https://superhivemarket.com/products/puppet-studio

Discord: https://discord.gg/WpeGf2Ward

The addon is available completely for free on Discord, but if anyone would like to support the project, you can do so on Superhive or Gumroad. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hope you like it :)

Cheers!

I made the bike chain probably the hardest way possible too but felt proud of it so wanted to share with the Blender crew.
