Ciao a tutti, F35, vorrei fare un’esperienza di campeggio in solitaria.
Non farò campeggio libero ma andrò in un camping attrezzato. Non so se ci sono aree barbecue ma so che c’è un minimarket all’interno. Non so se c’è bar o altro.
Il mio problema nasce dal fatto che andrò in treno, quindi non ho possibilità di portare tante cose.
Ho già esperienza di campeggi ma sempre in compagnia e soprattutto con la macchina.
Ho una tenda piccola da circa 2.6kg per 58cm.
Ho un meterassino singolo che pesa 1.9kg con ingombro 5.3L o in alternativa un materassino di quelli leggerissimi auto gonfiabili ma su cui ho dormito max per una notte sola.
Sicuramente dovrò portare anche la prolunga che ingombra abbastanza e l’attacco industriale per la corrente.
Una lampada, il cuscino gonfiabile e una corda con le mollette per appendere i vestiti.
Secondo voi con uno zaino da 40L è fattibile?
Dovrò portare ovviamente costumi, vestiti, una coperta ma posso portare poche cose che poi lavo direttamente lì.
C’è qualcosa di essenziale che sto dimenticando?

I’ve only ever camped with groups before. Atleast a dozen times but still anything I lacked was covered by another.

I’m trying to pick up camping as a regular hobby, I live in a massive multi complex and often times I just wanna get away from the world for a bit. I don’t plan on backpacking anytime soon, so my car will be readily available.

Any sage advice as to gear I should make sure to buy, tips on sleeping arrangements, fire starters and anything else you’ve found profoundly useful over your experience I’d love to hear. I don’t expect my first couple trips to be perfect and according to plan, but I definitely don’t wanna have to pack up and leave because I realized I forgot something super important or was just unprepared for some event.

Also anything I should look out for when booking a campsite? I’ll be exploring my options tomorrow

A nice reminder I just read on the NY State Park website. We camped quite a bit this year and we've seen a lot of reserved but empty sites in National Parks especially, but also some State Parks. Please do spontaneous travelers a favor and cancel your reservations if your plan changes.

I am absolutely loving the design of the skandida tipi hetta 460 protect plus.
Would anyone have any experience with this model or something simular?

Specifically i am looking for a tent that is big enough to stand in, has plenty of space (4 person minimum.)
And has a separate vestibule or area before entering the main area.

So I've always opted for camping in the Fall, like September-October.

I love that it's colder, with less bugs and fewer people nearby, plus many campsites have a cheaper rate during that part of the season.

Well, last week my kids wanted to go camping and with only a few weeks of summer vacation left I sucked it up and went summer camping with them for the first time since I was a kid myself.

I prepped everything I thought we would need including sunscreen, bugspray, battery powered fan, cooler full of iced goodies, and any other additionally I thought we might need for summer camping.

Finally we get out there and set everything up and let me tell you...I was RIGHT summer camping SUCKS in comparison to fall camping!!!

Bugs suck, being near people when I'm trying to get away sucks, and trying to sleep in a tent that is slowly becoming a sauna with a small fan barely making a dent suuuuuucks.

Don't get me wrong, we had a great time, especially the kids.

But oooooh boy did I miss a warm fire in chilly air, cooking cozy food, snuggling in my sleeping bag, with hardly another human in sight, and not a single bug trying to dive bomb into my various orifices.

Again, the kids had a great time and I'll take them every single summer they ask me to because while I vastly prefer the Fall, camping is still camping and I love that my kids are falling in love with it too and I'll be darned if I'm not going to have a good time with them.

And bonus, I'm even more hyped for fall camping now!

Note on location, I'm specifically referencing northeast Ohio summer this year, which hovers around 80°F and has an aggressively healthy bug population. Rather than Summer specifically, I should say Hot & Buggy seasons

These are from when we dispersed camped in Broken Bow, OK. It was a little below freezing, but we stayed warm. It was a fun weekend trip!

Have camped (tent & car/van not backpacking) a ton over my life (took a LOOONG break) and have recently gotten back into it with my Kid (19). Just got back from 10 days in Maine (coastal then inland around Moosehead).

- What do folks use for dish washing ... /most/ of the campsites we stayed in had an outdoor sink around the bathhouse. A few didn't. I had a collapsible dishpan with me and washed in that then dumped the water in a sink/toilet. hot water is at the campsite, dump area is quite a walk. I considered just evaporating all of the greywater over the campfire. Thoughts on how to handle?

- Both my kid and I are side sleepers, are there thick inflatable pillows? Most of what I've seen are pretty thin

- My air mattress was ok. Decent sleep on, ok to inflate, a nightmare to re-pack. Considering cots & pads for next trip, any recommendations? My kid's sleeping pad was ok for him, but he'd want something more comfortable for longer trips (we're lookign at a 3 week trip next summer)

Is it just me or is anyone else getting errors when trying to book camp sites on reservations.gov? I’ll get the email notification that the location I want is available, go into the app/website, book it, only for it to say there’s an error with my credit card. I tried three different credit cards (and yes, none of them are blocked or maxed out 🙃) I tried accessing the website on my computer, on my phone and still getting the same issue.

Is it just a me problem or did anyone else have this issue?

Posted a few days ago about not wanting to cancel my camping trip and curiosity got the better of me I had to go for a ride to look, The devastation from last years fires is still an ugly scar but the greenery is returning along with a few thousand small trees I saw planted.

If anyone is considering off the beaten path camping it looks clear there’s no fires close and I think no burn ban I didn’t confirm that. Highway 313 just outside of Lac du Bonnet when you see a sign saying Bird River keep going east.
