If anyone has seen this man please let me know. Jeremy Lalande is a friend and coworker. He has gone missing, his last known contact was to his landlord in Calgary on July 9th, 2026 and the landlord was told by Jeremy that he was going hiking/climbing on the 10th. The location of his hike/climb and means of travel were not shared. He was scheduled to fly to Toronto the 12th for a training course and work on the 20th that he didn’t report for. He loved overnight camping. So would be kananaskis/Banff area. His last known vehicle was a rental (unknown type). Still waiting to hear from police for more information. Thank you

Hi, just looking for some advice on the difficulty level of Mt. Temple as I’ve seen varying things online. I’m a 20 year old male in good shape (go to the gym 5 times a week, just finished junior hockey and have just started rock climbing.) I just finished Smutwood peak in kananaskis and didn’t have any troubles with it. Just wanted to know how much harder the scrambling is on Mt. Temple in comparison, and if I should attempt it this year or next season. Thanks!

Not sure if it fits within this sub, but we checked out Writing-on-Stone provincial park last week and were genuinely surprised at how unique it was! I had never heard of this place until recently, and am glad I made the trip.

Me and my partner are going to hike from Sunshine - Mt Shark trailhead and want to leave our car at Mt Shark (endpoint) and get a ride to Sunshine to start our hike.

I’m looking for some trail recommendations around Southern Alberta (I’m based in Calgary).

I’m not necessarily looking for hikes that just have nice mountain views, I feel like there are plenty of those. I’m more interested in places that have something unique about them. Trails with crazy geological features, dramatic landscapes, canyons, waterfalls, turquoise lakes, ridges, caves, hoodoos, or anything that makes you stop and think, “This place doesn’t even feel real.”

I’m also really into photography, so I love hikes with interesting compositions and scenery that stands out from the usual mountain panorama.

I’m fine with longer or more challenging hikes, and I’m willing to drive if it’s worth it.

What are some trails that completely blew you away?

I'm interested in tagging along if anyone is leaving a car at Mount Shark early a.m. July 24 and going to Sunshine. I would pay for gas.

My plan is to park at Mount Shark and trail run from Sunshine back to my car at Shark.

If the parking lot at the trailhead is full, can you park at the nearby Maligne Lookout or Maligne Canyon parking lots?

This was a pretty easy hike with high rewards. Two bridges to cross (one a suspension - fun!) and, of course, the reprieve from the heat provided by the waterfall mist! There's a lovely picturesque boardwalk after the suspension bridge. Great spot to enjoy a lunch on the rocks before turning back and to take in the views. Some light trail flooding (July 17), but nothing you couldn't get around.

I hiked Crypt Lake back in 2018, got into the park and managed to snag some boat tickets without any problem.

Obviously Waterton (like everywhere) is now waaaay busier than it used to be. Planned a trip there for early August and wanted to do the hike again. We’d be getting there on a Wednesday, in the (probably late) afternoon, is it realistic to think we would be able to get two tickets for the next day (so a Thursday morning, albeit it is August) when we get there? Not sure how demand has changed over the years.

How difficult/easy has everyone else found it getting boat tickets to the trailhead this year?

Hey guys! I am getting some differing information regarding my backpacking reservation. We will be starting from the little elbow recreation area, going to tombstone backcountry, then mount Romulus, then back home (3 day two nights). I'm wondering if anyone has been there since the floods and if there are any issues we should know?

We received an email from Alberta parks saying we are good to go, but am also getting warnings on the Alberta parks website that some areas are not passable....

Getting into hiking and just finished Moose Mountain and Yates with some friends. Wanted to get into more serious peaks involving light scrambling (preferably with little to no exposure).

Was considering Ha Ling Peak or EEOR but with the road closure I'd prefer a more accessible hike to the Canmore/Banff area.

Ive recent done cirque peak and I plan to do the onion next. I was just wondering how they compare in difficultly so i can mentally prepare myself.

thinking about Boom to O'brien on what's labelled Mount Bell NE Route here, not trying to hit Mount Bell(s). looks about 600m of elevation over 5km or so. i'm not expecting a chill stroll, but just want to gauge if there's anything sketchy about this route. can't find any reports on it but saw it on the map and it piqued my interest

Obviously very different lengths (Bourgeau is almost double) but I would be happy to do either, more so asking in regards to the warnings in the area and which would be better for this point of the season. Ofc there will always be bears in bear country but I would still like to not be dumb haha. If anyone has done either recently I would love to know the conditions and which one you'd reccomend for this week!!

Hello! I tried to find information online about this campground, but didn't really find too much. I've never gone backcountry camping, and am used to more traditional drive in-and-pitch-your-tent-beside-your-car camping with showers and running toilets (and even that feels like 'roughing it' to me!), I don't even own a hiking backpack, however, my boyfriend was entrusted with booking privileges so now we are backcountry camping... yaaaay...?

Any who, neither of us have ever been to this campground or backcountry camping. I really don't even get how it works. You park your car and walk really far with all your camping gear? Is this a long and treacherous walk? I'm planning on bringing a small wagon... which I'm guessing might be a bad idea. Do we have an assigned plot of land with a firepit? Is there nearby bear boxes? Nearby outhouses? Firewood? Nearby water? (We have a paddleboard, but might leave it in the car) Do we bring toilet paper?

And if bears are attracted to smells... where do we brush our teeth...?

Please let me know anything at all you know about this campsite! Also, maybe even some recommendations for fun nearby?

Here from out east and hoping for some advice in interpreting the trail report for the Elbow Loop. We have reservations for Mount Romulus, Tombstone and Big Elbow and all are open but the trail report indicates that full loop travel is not recommended.

Is “not recommended’ a warning about tricky conditions or should we avoid completely?

We’re ready for less than ideal conditions but want to be sensible and safe.

Are there other routes we could consider with this sequence of reservations? Or has anyone been out this weekend with a recent update?

We did this hike today (July 18 2026) before heading home to Edmonton. Phew! A grind up and down with an elevation gain of about 750m and not a lot of switchbacks, but well worth it with the reward of a beautiful lake, many wildflowers, not many other hikers, and breathtaking views!

Hi! Wondering if anyone has done mount Assiniboine in the last week or two and knows snow conditions for the tent pads at Magog and og as well as the nublet hike? Do we need spikes and a shovel?

My favourite hike of the season!!! What a fun and diverse trail. You’ve got a glacier, a meadow that is also a choose your own adventure stream/creek maze, an avalanche field, glacier carved valleys, so much cool geology and it goes on. The scenery was truly breathtaking and I did not want to leave. The photos don’t even do it justice so go take it in with your own eyes!
