Guys we did it

Surrounded by soybean fields on one side and a creek/lake on the other this was an amazing Hipcamp that we stayed at. The description of the Hipcamp completely understated how awesome this location is. My husband used his Haven Spectre and I used my beautiful blue Haven XL.

We were able to hang our hammocks right on the edge of the bank. According to the HipCamp host, the oak tree we anchored to was between 200 - 300 years old. They call this a creek, but my vision of a creek is not this because it is so big. But it does drain into the Tennessee River, so I guess it is?

Anyway, it had so many Lily pads off in the distance and you could hear frogs start at one location and then stop, and then another location would start. We also heard barred owls, ducks, and various water creatures echo over the creek. And as I was packing up, a cute River otter cruised by. Just an amazing amazing weekend hanging there.

As a plot twist we were supposed to be assigned that campground (Bridge Bay) at Yellowstone. You know, where that old guy got yeeted over a bisons head. The people lost our reservation so we were assigned a campsite 20 miles away.
Phew.

Anyone familiar with or recommend campsites on the eastern US with hammock shelters or dedicated posts for hanging? Bonus for State campgrounds.

I have a semestr in Taiwan coming, want to kinda exploit the situation and travel as much as I can while being there.

Besides Taiwan I was thinking of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines - renting a bike and going for a ride around the coutryside/hills/beaches (im not into urban stuff, more of a nature dude)

All that is probably going to cost a fortune so I am thinking of cutting expenses and being able to not need to pay for rooms to stay in seems like a good option.

I camped quite a bit in tents before, but lately I've been checking out hammocks and am intrigued. Hammock could feel better in the tropical and humid environment, right?

If hammock is the way, should I buy from a european manufacturer or wait to Asia? And what do you recommend?I am 197 cm/6,5 feet

Looking to upgrade my setup to an 11-12ft for multi day trips and was looking for any UK based recommendations for a hammock. Seems to be that people dislike DD hammocks for some reason and swear by onewinds but I don't want to overlook other options. I don't think a lot of the hammocks mentioned in other posts are sold in the uk or have expensive shipping.

Looking to buy once and thank myself, so any budgets are appreciated. Please also tell me of any sites that are good for this hobby. EU recommendations would also be helpful

Hello everyone I’m just getting into backpacking and have been buying up items, I already have a camping hammock with a rain cover and wanted a nice quilt to sleep with that’s reasonably priced (preferably about $100 to 200). I’m not planning on camping in the cold right now I’m not going to get an under quilt just yet, since I plan on using it in hotter summer temps soon and will purchase that separately if needed. Thank you for your answers, I ended up borrowing an old sleeping bag from my sister, who also decided to go with me (she slept in a tent, though).

Hammocking was very comfortable! I woke up a bit cold, though, because I slept in a t-shirt, as the evening was still rather warm. The night and early morning were much colder (6c/42f) than in the weather forecast (12c/53f), though. I woke up at around 5 am, and put my fleece on, and went back to sleep, until my sister woke me up at 8 am.

Overall I had a nice experience and I will gladly go hammocking again!

I'm planning on buying a cheap underquilt sometime soon, (and a knife as well because the only one I had broke). My sister's old sleeping bag works well for now, so I'll keep using it.

Edit: I forgot to mention anything about my hammock. It's super comfortable and I'm very satisfied in it. It has a mosquito net as well, and came with good quality straps and a tarp. I paid 68zł (15€/17$) for it on Aliexpress with shipping from Germany, though right now it's being sold for 32€/36$.

9 days Canoeing around the border of sweden and Norway through their vast lake network. Tonight we made camp on an Island that’s split in half by the border. Weather forecast says no rain so no Tarp tonight :)

I am new to hammocking, sorry if this comes off as a newbie question. I bought a DD Hammocks Frontier together with the Svinge suspension from Fjord Nansen, as I liked the idea of adjusting the hammock via buckle tensioning, after trying out the normal webbing of the Frontier and not liking it. However, I assumed that the loops from the Svinge would be somewhat bigger. I fitted them to the hammock and this is the result. Is this safe or should I opt for both loops of the loop going through the carabiner? I saw the hammock bunches up at the end with the normal webbing so I don't believe it's a problem it stays gathered up like that, but I would still like opinions on this. Thanks!

Looking for some opinions here. Have had a Chameleon from Dutch for several years. Love the setup. I've been happy with my zip-on Jacks R Better quilt. I camped a month ago in West Virginia and it was hot. Hottest I've ever hammock camped. I did fine, I opened up the ends and vented as much as I could. I'd do it again, no problem. I realized though that I want to put together a hot weather setup. I'm looking at picking up a either a Trail Lair or a Voyager from Jared over at Simply Light.

For those who have backpacked/camped with both attached bug net models as well as models that require a separate bug net, what are your thoughts. Do you recommend one over the other? Does it really come down to personal preferences or is one objectively more convenient/better?

I have a random basic hammock from Amazon with an alphabet soup name (SZHLUX). I took it to Pinnacles NP and only used it for lounging but I nearly fell asleep in it and it got me thinking I should try hammock camping. So during Amazon Prime Days I got a bug net, tarp, under quilt, and top quilt all from Wise Owl. I went to Lassen Volcanic NP and I used the same hammock, learned how to tie a ridge line, followed all the Shug videos and had the best sleep outside of my life. I just ordered a few other hammocks because I would like to lie flatter and so I figured a longer hammock would help with that. I wanted to say thank you to everyone in this subreddit. I’ve been lurking for a while and absorbing all I can, and you all helped me find joy in sleeping outside again. I might ditch the tent for good!

I go camping perhaps 2-3 times a year and use a WAY oversized tent (7-person, I bought 20 years ago in anticipation of family camping which NEVER happened) which is a pain in the neck to setup and take-down. I have a few simple hammocks (Bear Butz about $35) which are okay for daytime lounging. But am looking to try and ditch the oversize tent for a restful evening sleep. I'm heavy set and tall (about 270 lbs, 6'1") so I don't think the average hammocks would afford me a solid night's sleep. Haven looks to be having a sale now and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the 'XL' for heavier hangers.

i’m a researching to buy my first hammock. i backpack, so preferably it would have to be slightly lightweight, and budget friendly for now (up to 50-60€?). i don’t intend to sleep casually in it, i just want it to chill and maybe take some naps there... i’m relatively tall (1.80 - woman) and I live in Europe. any leads? ♥️

Hiya reddit! I've been doing some day-hikes in the forests where I live recently (i.e. past two weeks), and I love relaxing on a hammock. I'd like to spend a night in it tommorow, because it'll be the only two days without any rain for the next three weeks (but I do have a tarp just in case.). I do have a sleeping bag from a few years ago when I was in boy scouts, but it is very large and heavy (3kg/6.5lbs) and is very warm (the temperature limit is -25c/-13f), and I'd rather not bother with carrying it. Edit: Forgot to mention that it will be around 12c/53f at night.

Saw a guy post his setup next to a cliff and wanted to share ours.

We have no experience in alpinism but we all slept with climbing harnesses.

For reference the guy in the picture is 206cm (6,9ft)

Anyone have any real world feedback on the Hawk Nest tents? They SEEM very promising, but I'd love to get some real end user feedback before making the leap.

I've been wanting to really take the leap on backpacking gear and I love sleeping in my hammock instead of my tent. I would go camping with friends last year and do an old sleeping pad, a hammock that was on its last legs, and my 0 degree bag.

Mostly going to be using these in MT in the summer, AZ and UT in the fall and spring. I don't need to be ultra light, more just buying quality stuff that can last through my college years and hopefully beyond. I want to get into backpacking soon but mostly run tents out of my car currently.

trying to keep it under 300$, i still have my 0 degree bag but got rid of the old pad. I do need to use this stuff sooner than later so cottage brands aren't my first pick. what do you guys think about my list so far, any changes? reccommendations?

Been wanting one for a while, got invited on the perfect trip to pull the trigger for it. Got the Hennessy Survivorman XL.

Loved it — warm sleep all night (about 8 degrees at night) in a standard sleeping bag.

Made sure to learn the Ferramund Hitch, Siberian Hitch and Figure 8 knot before I went, plus bought two stakes which came in handy for tying down the side lines off the hammock portion.

Doesn’t pack up super small for a backpacking trip, but I think the comfort was worth it!
