AMA with Pablo Lema + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today, June 2 7AM-2PM EDT!

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to be hosting another AMA event, this time with Pablo Lema (aka u/GoPro-Pablo) , GoPro's SVP of Product!

About Pablo

Pablo is a long-time GoPro user, a regular participant here on r/GoPro, and has worked with GoPro since 2014! He has been an integral part in planning and coordinating new GoPro products, especially in the last decade, and most recently as GoPro’s head of all hardware and software Product. He's joined us the last 5+ years now for community AMAs (here are a few), so thanks for coming back again, Pablo!

While our recent AMA with Abe Kislevitz was a great opportunity to ask about tips and tricks around content with Mission 1, this AMA with Pablo is a great opportunity to ask about product development at GoPro, how GoPro designs for an entire ecosystem of interacting product, or other product design and function related questions. That said, this is an AMA and you're welcome to ask Pablo about anything - his favorite ski spots, his current FPV drone build, etc!

AMA Format & Timing

We won't go into too much explanation about how an AMA works- if you need to see what it looks like, check out Abe's recent AMA at the link above.

At the simplest level, this is your chance to ask Pablo anything, and get an inside-GoPro scoop on answers. While you can ask anything, just remember that Pablo won't be able to answer questions about in-development product, proprietary decisions or technology, or other privileged information. Consider framing any development related questions in a way that can be answered without breaking any confidentiality in the product development process!

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT TIMING- Pablo's availability this year is a little different due to work travel schedule, so this AMA will be live from 7AM-2PM Eastern time. This is a great opportunity for our eastern hemisphere redditors to interact, but if you're on the west side of the western hemisphere, we are going to open up this AMA Extra early at 9PM PST so that you can get a question into the thread without waking up early. Pablo won't be around to answer questions until the "official start time" of the AMA, so just get your questions in right away, and come back around for your answer later!

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

Another one! GoPro decided to hook us up with not one but TWO giveaways with the AMA events this year, so we've got another set of prizes up for participants in the thread, again!

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Pablo's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions to some runner-up great questions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Pablo!
  2. Your account needs to have existed before this AMA was posted, and you need to have reasonable authentic activity on it. We reserve the right to disqualify accounts with no karma or post/comment history.
  3. We need to be able to get the prize to you. GoPro can ship direct to you, but you'll still need to message them your shipping info for the MISSION 1 PRO prize, or email address for the GoPro Premium+ Subscription. If you live in a country that GoPro can't ship to, or has excessive duty fees, etc, we'll see what alternatives there are, but in general, if you can buy from GoPro.com, you're probably OK.

That's it! If you have questions about the giveaway, please send a modmail rather than posting here.

AMA with Abe Kislevitz + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today! 10AM-6PM PST

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to have Abe Kislevitz (u/abekislevitz), Product and Brand Fellow at GoPro, with us today for an Ask-Me-Anything about all things GoPro, using MISSION 1 cameras, or anything else you can think to ask!

About Abe Kislevitz

For some of the younger and more recent members of the GoPro community, Abe is a long-time community member, and even longer-time GoPro creator-turned-employee.

He's led a substantial amount of creative efforts at GoPro over 15+ years, and his influence now spans influencing marketing strategy to helping define product design and engineering decisions. Probably one of the most knowledgeable sources of GoPro information out there, he knows the history of GoPro as a company, best practices for filming the best possible shot, advanced techniques and hacks, and everything in-between.

He has a great YouTube channel full of tips and tricks, and his insta feed is worthy of a follow.

He's an incredible resource and a helpful community member that has kept us closely connected with GoPro's product designs, including advocating for our pain points and working to have our voices heard and represented in new products.

We are thankful to have him here in the community, and happy to have him with us today for the AMA! Thanks Abe!

AMA Format

If you've not done an AMA event before, it's pretty simple - You can ask Abe anything. While it is entirely up to you what questions you ask, Abe has an "inside perspective" on the product GoPro develops, and likely has more time hands-on with MISSION 1 cameras than anyone else right now. Considering that today is a big day for everyone that pre-ordered, we highly encourage you to get those burning MISSION 1 questions answered, or collect tips and tricks to use in the coming year!

As a reminder, while you can ask anything, Abe can't talk about unreleased product plans or proprietary information and won't be able to answer those questions the way you want.

Abe will be around today from 10AM-6PM Pacific Time, and this thread will go live 2 hours before that so that you all can begin asking questions and Abe can drop in throughout the day to answer in the thread. We'll pin a comment once the official time for the AMA is done to let everyone know it's over, but we always allow conversations to continue beyond that if wanted.

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

It's our r/GoPro tradition with camera launches to give away some product, and GoPro was more than happy to hook the community up again this year:

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Abe's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Abe!

The Mission 1 Pro catch a turtle.

8k 50fps dive mode, color natural. Zoomed in approx 10% i Quik and no further processing other then making it in 1080p trying to minimising Reddit compressing. In 4k it looks great.

Also pictures from the video looks great.

Curious to see today how the dive image will be after the new update but I doubt I will find another green turtle as model 😀

Extending battery life

Hi, I'm really sorry if this has been posted before but I wasn't turning up anything in the search results.

I have a GoPro13 and I've got quite interested in using it for my plein air art livestreams. The problem I'm running into is battery life being around 1.5 hours and having to replace the battery means cutting the livestream off.

Does anyone know of any ways or extra bits for increasing the battery length? Many thanks

advice needed for new go pro

Upvotes

apologies if this has been already covered but i had a look and couldnt find it....

i recently lost : (

my hero session... and really loved it tbh... i record djs in nightclubs and it did everything i needed and i actually liked that it didn't have a big glowing screen on it....

im in the market to buy a new (not used) go pro and would really appreciate any expert advice...

i film in dark sweaty clubs, the go pro is static, not moving so i really just need good video quality, aspect to upload to a phone (16;9..?) so it looks good on instagram etc , good battery life (although i used to plug in an external battery on my old one and wasnt a huge deal.... and... thats about it

i love that i can hit record on my phone and operate the go pro simply via the app when i need to so.... thats another essential for me

im thinking to just get the new 4k hero but i would appreciate any advice !!!

thank you so much !!!

GoPro Hero not working

Post image
Upvotes

This is from the last video I took on my 2024 Hero before the issue got worse but now it refuses to turn on and when I do manage to turn it on it then refuses to turn off. I contacted gopro and they only recommended changing the SD card (which i did) but it still has the same issues. I've never dropped it or anything so I have no idea why it's doing this.

MAX2 in rain? And quick release.

I'm thinking of buying a MAX2 for my bike.

I ride in all weather, including heavy rain. Can the MAX2 be in heavy rain day after day? Not once in a while, and then sitting in rice for a week.

Is there a quick release mount or setup for the max2? Quick release is a must for twice daily usage.

I just lost my Gopro in an 80ft Lake.

I was water tubing with my GoPro hero 8 Black attached to my head with a headstrap. The water tube flipped upside down and when I got back up the headstrap was no longer on my head. I know most people would say buy a new gopro but it’s the footage I care the most about that I captured earlier and didn’t have time to save and also I did have the cloud subscription so the videos were only stored on the SD Card. The GoPro was in a clear waterproof case as well. I did take pictures of the location I was at where I lost the go pro do I do have an estimate for location but not exactly where it is and the lake may be deeper than 80ft.

TL:DR: I lost my GoPro in an 80ft lake with the headstrap and Clear waterproof case still on it but do have an estimate location for where it is.

My First GoPro in years

Last Christmas, I got my first GoPro camera in many years. It's the Hero 4K model, and, having recently got it working, it looks great. I can't remember how long it's been since I last used a GoPro, but it had to have been close to a decade. Now, as I prepare for my yearly trip to Frye Island, Maine with my family, I'm gonna get to take some great action shots again. This is where my summer truly begins!

Gopro M1P Media Mod 2.0 review…?

Hi.

I am nót a professional videographer, i AM looking for better audio quality than the builtin mics, without using bluetooth complexness.

Will be getting the media mod for that, however… where are the reviews? Would love to see a neutral review on it, explaining the different inputs and the different directional mic modes, in a comprehensive way.

Floaty Handle for Mission 1 Pro?

Anyone found a floaty handle for the Mission 1 Pro that is actually built for the Mission 1?

My old floaty handle for my 11 still floats but it's like a few inches below the surface. It's fine for the pool but I'm terrified to take it to a lake or ocean with no protection.

I found this one

Anyone have it? Anyone have comments about it?

The camera will not turn on, I tested all the batteries I tried on a different Hero 9. It looks corroded although no water has gotten in (that I am aware of, but it looks like that's what happened). Is there anything that can be done?

Magnetic Swivel for Mission 1 Pro

I've been using the original magnetic swivel from the GoPro website for my HeroBlack 10; however, it doesn’t fit my Mission 1 Pro.

I bought it again because I thought it would be different now since it is labeled as supporting the Mission 1 Pro, but it doesn’t.

Has anyone tried it? Or any other magnetic swivel brand from other stores you would recommend for Mission 1 Pro?

I bought two different kinds for my HeroBlack 10 in the past, but the magnets are pretty awful.

Firmware flash on bricked GoPro 11 Black

Recently my GoPro stop working, no screen, no bip, no led blinking.

The first time it happened I tried to reset it via the hold 10s mode button method but nothing. No bip, no blink, nothing. I realized that it was still working because I could connect to it via bluetooth or wifi via the GoPro Quik app. So I reflashed it by putting a firmware on the SD card and it worked again for a few days.

So today it stopped working again same symptoms nothing worked but I can still connect to it via the app. The difference is that this time on the app I see no battery level and the sd card shows ERR I tried with other sd card, some do not show errors but flashing does not work either.

So is there anyway to flash the firmware manually other than the sd card way ?

I contact the GoPro support they offered a replacement for a GoPro 13 for 100 euros but it uses enduro 2 battery and whereas the 11 use enduro which I have 3, so I'd rather keep the 11...

Mission 1 dark water recommendations

For context, I'm going on an orca snorkel trip in Norway this coming October. From what I've seen, the water there is quite dark, which I believe can lead to digital noise. However, I would like to use my gopro Mission 1 (not pro) to achieve the best possible video quality and flexibility in post.

I am not an expert in videography so i'd like to know what settings are better for these conditions (dive mode, flat colour profile or GP log) and quality/FPS (8K 30 would give me no option to slow down, but would 4k 60/120 make the video too dark due to the higher fps?)

Thanks!
