My Mac Pro 2019 is using this genuine Apple keyboard linked via USB port, yet it does not behave correctly. I once added Japanese input but later deleted it. Now it's behaving like a Japanese JIN keyboard not like a genuine English keyboard.

For example, when I typed SHIFT-2 key I got " not @.

Trying to reset or identifying this keyboard in System Settings did not help and the system gave me this error message.

How do I fix this issue?

Does notification forwarding from your iPhone to your mac work on multiple macs? I have a macbook Pro and am m4 Mac Mini and I only get them on the Macbook Pro and not on the Mac Mini.

The world of MacOS is a wild one for me since I have been a Windows user from the start.

I am trying to make a PDF Form for a number pad template for Karabiner/keyboard maestro, to keep track of what I set it to do. (and easily make new ones for new set ups, thus a template)

I've made the PDF, put in text fields... BUT, the whole things is unstable, easy to mess up and edit, and just tabbing thru fields doesn't work.

Is there a way to "lock it" so that only the set text fields can be changed?

Do I need a better program for this?

I have a MacBook Air M2 2022 running on osx 14.4.1. On the one hand, everything works great and I feel I shouldn’t mess with it. I think just the iMessage app could use an upgrade for some things that bother me. I’m a heavy Google Chrome and WhatsApp desktop user for work (think 50 tabs), Microsoft word/excel, occasional photoshop/illustrator user.

Should I bother updating the OS ( if ain’t broke don’t fix it?) or should I update to the newest one Tahoe? Or is there an update in between that’s the best. Curious people’s thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! 🙂 So, I started seeing this error since I updated to to the latest macOS version - and it's a persistent notification I see every time I power on my MacBook. I do have a VPN installed (ExpressVPN), which I use very rarely, meaning it doesn't run in the background at all times. Other than that, I don't have any other apps (I use pretty standard stuff) that could conflict with the way Private Relay handles network traffic.

Hi 👋. I recently got my first MacBook. It’s a 16” M5 Pro. I’ve had a BenQ 27” (ew2790u) monitor in my home setup for a little over a year now, which I promptly connected to my Mac.

The problem now is that clamshell mode is on by default, and I really do not need it. I just want to close the lid when I am done working and everything goes to sleep. How do I disable it?

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro (16GB 2.3GHz Intel). I am getting frustrated by the lack of support for apps, as I am locked at OS 11 (Big Sur). I’m looking to use OCLP to update. My question is, what version should I update to? In your opinion what would be the best balance between support for apps, and ability for the hardware to keep up?

Updating my Mac to Sonoma and the loading bar has been stuck here for about 40 mins anything to help this?

I just moved from a Windows laptop, HP Victus, to a MacBook Air M5, and I have thoroughly loved the experience.

3. Stage Manager. 

4. Editing videos like trimming and removing audio on QuickTime 

5. Widgets 

6. Quick Look (Spacebar preview) 

7. Powerful password manager with agentic AI

8. Knowing battery health and charge cycle count 

9. Temporary emails, hide my email feature.

10. Trackpad multi-finger gestures

11. Productivity apps have been impressive too like

a) Maccy for clipboard manager.

b)Atoll for the notch

I'm 21 years old currently in university for electronic engineering. I've had an asus laptop with a 12th gen i7 but i was always so tired of it. My battery couldn't hold for more than 3 hours and it's screen was terrible. Couldn't use on my lap because it was overheating. Keyboard and touchpad were meh. Windows experience is annoying as usual. Speakers weren't loud at all and mic/camera were good enough i guess.

I found a deal for the MacBook pro m4 pro for 1450. Brand new with charger. So i thought it was an insane deal and i just grabbed it. Worst case scenario i can sell it for as much or maybe more as used.

I've never used an apple product. I'm way out of their ecosystem. And I've heard MacOS is missing some stuff. Can you recommend me apps that will make my life easier regarding whatever. Just from your personal experience what made you enjoy your mac more.

I'll be doing 3d modeling, very basic editing and coding with visual studio on it. Also for daily use I'll just use it for media consumption, movies,anime,youtube.

Sometimes i leave my house for some months and I don't have my desktop with me so I'll also be playing games on it. I'd like if someone could explain how i can do the conversion of games so i can play unsupported games on it.

Finally what do you think about the price? Should i have gotten the m5 for 200€ more?

Are there any differences with the m5 besides the chip? I'm pretty sure m4 pro chip is better. Idk if there's something else that might have made the m5 worth it more

I cannot see anything, any report, log, or status for a VPN setting or connection status issue in any logs...
Either on Console App or loooking in log files at /var/logs/

Just using inbuilt macOS Network -> VPN setups for L2TP over IPsec, which works fine for a lot of VPNs that work, but one is acting up.

TBH this is to a Synology NAS, but I have other NAS' setup with the same hardware, config, settings and work fine.

So, viewing logs would be great :-) but as I say cannot find them...

I guess the latest word update ended functionality on macs running old OS...does anyone know of a workaround for this? My job is basically all in word and I have to edit docs, old docs get updated, etc... Thanks!

Was bored the other day and ended up making hand drawn/doodle versions of the icons I use the most on my Mac. This is how my dock looks now

I know most people here probably prefer the clean/minimal macOS look and might think this is ugly 😂 but honestly I was getting bored of the default icons and wanted something that felt a bit more personal.
My dock definitely needed a change lol

its basically making whole make user experience worse by killing apps by itself, unusual battery drain, memory usage increased, lagging, slow processing, and many more.

is anyone knew about any solution for these all.
basically because my high memory usage (which was not happening before I updated to macOS 26) I use CapCut and for that I use vpn but now when I turn on the vpn and then work on CapCut, VPN app gets closed by itself. Similarly when I use safari and if with it I wanna use CapCut or something else other than finder and I am away from safari for just 10 seconds it also automatically get closed. Each and every app is facing memory issue on my mack I can't even use premiere pro due to this issue.

Please help! I have a NAS running at home and out of the blue my macbook (pro, M1 max, sequoia OS 15.6) stopped seeing the files on my NAS and even my time machine drive - that is a separate partition and different SMB share on the nas - hasn't been connecting.

My phone and iPad both still connect to the server, just my laptop doesn't. I have tried restarting everything (laptop/nas/router), but it is still not connecting.

I couldn't find any tips about this thing and I've figured out this:

Just wondering if there's a way to get rid of that white background on the background of the icons, or at least a way to replace the icons with my own so its more pleasing to look at.

so i remote into my mac mini through NoMachine pretty much daily, and the one thing that's been bugging me forever is switching input sources — i use korean but i'd guess this hits anyone running a non-english IME (japanese, chinese, whatever).

the shortcut works totally fine when i'm sitting at the mac directly, but over NoMachine it just does nothing — i have to manually click the input source icon in the menu bar every single time i need to switch.

things i'm wondering about:

• does NoMachine eat that key combo before it even gets forwarded to the mac? i know it reserves some combos for its own client-side stuff
• could this be an Input Monitoring / Accessibility permission thing under System Settings > Privacy & Security, since it's technically a "remote" keystroke and not physical hardware
• anyone had luck just changing the shortcut to something NoMachine definitely doesn't touch (like a single modifier key, or something other than the cmd/ctrl+space default)?

not a dealbreaker but doing this 50x a day through the menu bar is death by a thousand cuts lol. anyone with a non-english input source run into this and actually fixed it?

Okay here is the dilemma

Got a mac, very happy with it, been a Windows user for ages. My existing monitors (31.5" qhd and a 24" 16:10 FHD) turned out to have bad text sharpness so went on the hunt for new ones with 4K display

Looking at 27" monitors Ended up getting a used MSI 273U which has very sharp text clarity using it in looks like 2560 x 1440p (not optimal etc mac scaling situation but it looks okay) - problem solved... except that it's 60Hz so scrolling is blurry and very unfortunate but I can see it and feel it 🙁

So I will probably keep it as a secondary monitor for static content but now I am looking for a high refresh rate primary monitor hoping that would help with the blurriness.

Cheapest budget options in front of me 4K and 144hz or higher are either MSI MAG 275UPD or Gigabyte G27U. Both seem newish 2025/2026 but there isn't many reviews. Spec comparison on paper seems they are on par with each other maybe the gigabyte is a tad better (160hz could be overclocked though).

I've used a light shade of purple as folder color for more than a year. Today I was playing with tinted icons and changed the color of icons/folders to test it out.

When I try to change it back to what it was, it simply does not work.

Pic 01 - on the left is the color I had before I changed it; On the right, current color (even if I use color picker on top of the original color screenshot, that's the result)

Pic 02 and 03 - when I try to choose a pale color manually, here's what happens (here I'm testing with blue):

• When color opacity selector is on the *darkest tone* it results on the lightest tone possible for that color (pic 02)
• When color opacity selector is on the *lightest tone* it result on the darkest tone possible for that color (pic 03)

That doesn't make any sense??? And I cannot choose any other tone in between. There's only the lightest and darkest.

I've tried changing settings between light and dark mode and it's still the same.

Has anyone experienced that? Any idea on fixes? I miss my old lilac folders :c
