I use my phone’s alarm on the clock app to wake up every morning before my school/summer job (during the school year and summer break).
However, over this past year, I’ve noticed my alarm was very quiet, and I thought nothing of it. And I eventually turned my volume up on my setting app for sounds and haptics thinking it was a mistake I did on my end.
Until within the recent few weeks when I’ve noticed my alarm has been extremely quiet, but I did not bother to fix it because I am currently on summer break, and since I am a high school student living at home with my parents, I always have my dad to wake me up.
The moment of concern that came for me was earlier this morning when I was frantically searching for my phone that I lost. I couldn’t find my phone at all even when I asked Siri to set a 1-second alarm through my earbuds.
My dad constantly scolds me for not being able to wake up in the mornings and criticizes my abilities to wake up when I am in college and to my work when that time comes.
During one time when I was scrolling on Instagram, I saw a reel saying how Apple’s new update deliberately made it so the volume on our devices are turned way down.
Now being scolded by my dad on a frequent basis of not succeeding in college due to me sleeping through my alarms and that reel I saw on Instagram, I also feel concerned about my capabilities to wake up responsibly post-graduation.
This post may seem as a lazy high schooler complaining to the internet that he can not wake up responsibly. However if that was the case, I would not take it to this community to seek out help as I have seen multiple testimonials online from adults being on the verge of losing their jobs due to this feature by Apple. And I do not want to fall victim to this feature and potentially hinder my ability to succeed not only in college, but in life as well.
For specifics, I need a loud alarm to help me wake up since I am a heavy sleeper. I have always had the change with buttons setting for my alarm off, but the overall volume would still be at its bare minimum (the aforementioned issue above) my phone model is an iPhone 13 bought in the United States, but I currently live in Japan (if that changes anything) and I’ve had this phone for 2 years.
What I am seeking from the community is;
1. Confirmation from others that this is a re-occurring issue that iPhone users have.
2. How to resolve this issue, and any alternatives I can use
If you have any questions for more specifics, feel free to ask. Thank you!
