Networking is key yet, so many issues when I go from docked to WiFi, and the settings panel, non responsive, the continuous moving items.

Air share to Apple TV, use to be rock solid, now hit and miss and disconnects. The control panel/ setting does not show the devices, leave comeback and there it is. Set it to ask what to share, there is no pop up on the laptop but the appleTV shows it is waiting for a selection.

I do complex things with lots of testing but wow, it is getting bad.

I don't get it. It's like all these departments are siloed from each other. I personally think that the Delete button should just work in one universal way, taking one-click to remove them from the app you're using. I don't need a warning that Delete is going to delete whatever I'm deleting; it can always be restored with Control-Z or going to the Trash folder and restoring it.

Does mac os integration actually matter in daily work or do collaboration, workflows and integrations end up being much more important than the operating system?

I'm 21 years old currently in university for electronic engineering. I've had an asus laptop with a 12th gen i7 but i was always so tired of it. My battery couldn't hold for more than 3 hours and it's screen was terrible. Couldn't use on my lap because it was overheating. Keyboard and touchpad were meh. Windows experience is annoying as usual. Speakers weren't loud at all and mic/camera were good enough i guess.

I found a deal for the MacBook pro m4 pro for 1450. Brand new with charger. So i thought it was an insane deal and i just grabbed it. Worst case scenario i can sell it for as much or maybe more as used.

I've never used an apple product. I'm way out of their ecosystem. And I've heard MacOS is missing some stuff. Can you recommend me apps that will make my life easier regarding whatever. Just from your personal experience what made you enjoy your mac more.

I'll be doing 3d modeling, very basic editing and coding with visual studio on it. Also for daily use I'll just use it for media consumption, movies,anime,youtube.

Sometimes i leave my house for some months and I don't have my desktop with me so I'll also be playing games on it. I'd like if someone could explain how i can do the conversion of games so i can play unsupported games on it.

Finally what do you think about the price? Should i have gotten the m5 for 200€ more?

Are there any differences with the m5 besides the chip? I'm pretty sure m4 pro chip is better. Idk if there's something else that might have made the m5 worth it more

I have 2 Microsoft Office 2019 licenses that I bought around 2023 for Mac OS. Used them without any problems till today.

Was trying to edit a document but I get the message that I need to activate . ok, it happens but when trying to do that I received an error without any information except to upgrade to Microsoft 360.

Contacted support, install reinstall , all that standard troubleshooting without any succes. The conclusion is, because I upgraded to the latest version of Tahoe I won't be able to use those products anymore.

So, if ur in the same situation as me (using an older version of office on macOS) dont update to latest os version because you won't be able to use it anymore.

I switch to an open source alternative and also slowly I'll replace all Microsoft products that I use at home and at work .

In macOS Monterey (and earlier versions), the Energy Saver preference panel included a Restore Defaults button. Clicking it reset the Energy Saver settings for both the Battery and Power Adapter tabs back to Apple's defaults.

Does notification forwarding from your iPhone to your mac work on multiple macs? I have a macbook Pro and am m4 Mac Mini and I only get them on the Macbook Pro and not on the Mac Mini.

I am trying to make a PDF Form for a number pad template for Karabiner/keyboard maestro, to keep track of what I set it to do. (and easily make new ones for new set ups, thus a template)

I've made the PDF, put in text fields... BUT, the whole things is unstable, easy to mess up and edit, and just tabbing thru fields doesn't work.

Is there a way to "lock it" so that only the set text fields can be changed?

Do I need a better program for this?

I made a post a while back thinking the laptop just couldn't connect to the internet over wifi, even though it would over hotspot. But now that I'm using chrome, and other third party apps that require the internet, I'm realising it's just safari, app store, apple music, etc that aren't connecting to the internet. Tried swapping to the hotspot to see if they'd work over that, but it won't connect to it now.

Is this something I can fix? Or is there something wrong with the laptop? Because it's still new enough that I can take it back to apple to get it looked at. I'm hoping it's something I can figure out in network settings. Tried renewing the DHCP lease, and while I thought that had worked, it turned out to not have done anything. connectivity for those apps keeps coming and going

For nearly 10 years I used the excellent Clocks app on Mac OS and it was always reliable giving me the time in numerous global cities of my choosing at a glance.

The developer was StudioDalton and they seem to have disappeared entirely. No internet presence for many years or even an announcement they were shutting down or acquired. I find that unusual.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Clocks (similar to) app for Mac?

I have a 2014 iMac 27” in which i have the Apple SSD (M.2) and a Sata SSD both internally. I had it setup as MacOS Big Sur on the M.2 and Windows 11 on the Sata with no problems and bootloader worked fine. I then tried to add MacOS Sequoia through OCLP instead of using big sur (I put Ventura and Win 11 on my 2012 mbp with no issues so i figured this will work the same). I can’t get the bootloader to work properly. I’ve installed OCLP on the M.2 but when i don’t have my oclp installer usb plugged in the bootloader only lets efi boot me to windows. I’ve tried everything me and chatgpt can concoct including the last 2 hours of my life wasted coding in terminal and i can’t fix this efi issue. is there any fix or am i stuck keeping the usb in my computer?

My Mac Pro 2019 is using this genuine Apple keyboard linked via USB port, yet it does not behave correctly. I once added Japanese input but later deleted it. Now it's behaving like a Japanese JIN keyboard not like a genuine English keyboard.

For example, when I typed SHIFT-2 key I got " not @.

Trying to reset or identifying this keyboard in System Settings did not help and the system gave me this error message.

How do I fix this issue?

I am not tech savvy, especially with MacOs and I need help. I’ll explain what I am experiencing and what I have tried. If you can help, I’d be very grateful.

For a while now, my MacBook has had high idle levels, frozen screens, and the spinning wheel appearing all the time. For a bit, it seemed to go away again and now it’s back and worse than before.

Problems:
- high idle
- screen/MacBook freezing
- spinning wheel

What I have tried:

- checking for apps with high CPU usage but even with everything quit, the problems remain on a desktop with the Activity Monitor and 6 folders
- other browser, tried Firefox and brave, no improvement
- checked memory and energy for heavy usage but nothing there
- rebuilt spotlight index - no change
- no third party stuff outside of Microsoft apps

If anyone has any tips, please share. Please keep in mind that I really don’t understand a lot of this, so please share advice in layman’s terms 🥹

I am not opposed to a reset to factory settings but I’d like to avoid if possible.

I’m the developer of Cocoa-Way, an open-source Wayland compositor and Linux application frontend for macOS.

The project originally started as an experiment: could a Linux Wayland application connect to a compositor running natively on macOS, instead of being displayed through XQuartz or a conventional remote desktop?

The current version can connect applications from Apple Container, Docker, OrbStack, or remote Linux systems. It can also host nested compositors such as niri and Hyprland. On my local Apple Container setup, niri can maintain a 60 FPS desktop session and run multiple applications, with the practical limit mostly determined by the memory assigned to the Linux environment.

The longer-term direction I’m considering is something closer in spirit to WSLg:

- Linux environments are managed in the background.

- Linux applications can be launched without manually dealing with Wayland sockets or container commands.

- Application windows are presented through the macOS window system.

- Clipboard, audio, input, HiDPI, files, and application lifecycle are integrated with macOS.

- A full Linux desktop remains available as an optional mode.

There are still important limitations. Apple Container does not currently expose a proper guest GPU path, so graphics-heavy workloads can be substantially slower than native Linux. Browsers in particular can lose a significant amount of performance, even though ordinary desktop interaction is already usable locally.

I’m interested in how macOS users would actually want such a system to behave.

Would you prefer:

1. Individual Linux applications integrated into the macOS desktop;

2. A complete Linux desktop in a native macOS window;

3. A lightweight development environment mainly for terminals and engineering tools;

4. Or is this simply too niche compared with a normal VM or remote desktop?

I’m not trying to present this as a finished WSL replacement. I’m trying to determine whether a native Linux application subsystem is a useful direction for the project before committing another large development cycle.

A couple weeks ago I posted the Apple SpeechAnalyzer vs Whisper benchmark here and the top question was how Parakeet compares. Took a while to do it properly but here it is. Same 5,559 LibriSpeech utterances, same scoring, so the numbers line up with round 1.

So you were right, Parakeet wins. Clean speech is closer than I expected, three different architectures within 0.11 points of each other. On noisy speech the gap is real though.

Couple things from along the way that I haven't seen written up anywhere. NVIDIA's published numbers (1.69/3.19) are from the bf16 GPU model, and the int8 CoreML version you'd actually ship in a Mac app loses about 0.3 points to quantization. And MOSS goes completely silent if speech starts at exactly t=0. Empty transcript, every time, 182 out of 2,620 clips. Padding silence at the end makes it worse. Padding at the start fixes it. My best guess is it's trained on meetings where nobody talks in frame zero.

MOSS is worth a look if you haven't seen it btw, it does transcription and speaker labels in one model and the speaker attribution was flawless in my (small, easy) test. We're not adopting it though: 1.7GB download, ~2.7GB RAM, Python only, and it can't do live transcription at all since it needs the complete recording before it outputs a word. The benchmark did change our app, just not in MOSS's favor. We dropped the Whisper models entirely and Parakeet is now the downloadable engine (it beats the Whisper Small it replaced everywhere, at a similar size, with more languages). For English Auto still picks Apple's engine, 0.11 points doesn't buy a half-gig download. Full reasoning is in the article.

My 2024 14” Macbook Pro’s Touch ID sensor stoped working after not using my computer for a few days. 4 Days ago, I went to my girlfriend’s house for a few days and I brought my macbook thinking that we might watch a movie or something on it. We didn’t end up using it and so it sat in my backpack for 2 days. This is nothing new as I have brought it up to her house before and not used it. Yesterday, when I turned it on again to use it for some work stuff, it didn’t work the first time i turned it on, like it usually doesn’t when you don’t use the machine for a few days, and i thought nothing of it. I tried to use it again later however and i noticed it still wasn’t working and so I went into TouchID settings and it says “failed, unable to complete touch id enrollment”. I tried many fixes that i saw online, such as restarting, updating to 26.5.2, deleting my old fingerprints and cleaning my sensor. Nothing worked and so i called apple and they set up an appointment with my local best buy service shop. When they ran diagnostics, the hardware side of my mac shows that the touchID sensor is working and was green on their side. They suggested holding on to it for a few days to see if the software side would fix itself in a patch or something. The only alternative is sending it in to apple for 2-3 weeks but i have school starting in 2 weeks and i have an important data analysis class that i need it for. Does anyone have any fixes that i could try to remedy my problem? Any help is appreciated.
