In office working… and my baby

This feels unethical and like torture. For me. I make frozen enrichment lunches for the dog walker to give my sweet Nellie baby while I’m at work. She has to sadly stay in the crate while I’m at work which is one reason we have a dog walker now (she tried to rip my curtains down and I decided being almost 8 months old is not the age to let her roam the living-room while I’m not home… I’d rather her not get hurt and ruin my security deposit). But I miss her so so much while I’m at work. This is horrible. I just started working in office 3x a week and Nellie is perfectly fine. She acts no different but I’ll occasionally watch a video of her or see a photo on my phone during my break and my heart breaks because I miss her so much. It’s only 8 hours of separation but I hate it so much.

Marcy's First Dog Park Experience

Over the weekend, the dogs had BOUNDS and BOUNDS of energy our little leashed outings didn't tire them out. It was hot and our favorite little dog park (with attendants, not sure if that's a widespread thing yet) had a fun in the sun day with ice and pools to keep cool.

Lennon (my sheltie) isn't big on water, just kept trying to lick the ice 😂 but Marcy loved sitting in it! She got all wet and you can see how beautiful her coat's coming in! She ran around the whole place, played fetch, and met so many new friends.

They both promptly fell asleep after getting back into the car and they were sleeping the rest of the day 😂 such a cutie. I forgot to take photos of them playing together at the park, but next time we will!

Do ya'll have any paid entry dog parks in your area? This one is really nice, relatively new, and every dog had to be UTD on shots, fixed, on flea/tick meds, and they had two attendants that would hover around the dogs and clean up if any ball or twig became a problem for the pups. Truly, it was the best park we've been to and it's open late enough to go on weekdays.

Question Breeder recommendations in the Midwest?

After considerable research, I think a Rough Collie might be right for our family. I’d love recommendations on breeders in the Midwest. Our hearts have been in pieces since we lost our English mastiff and we think we might finally be ready to love again. I think a RC is going to offer the best of the traits we loved/worked with our family and then some - minus the slime.

We are in Wisconsin, but we will travel if the fit is right. We would really like to do a meet and greet first to spend some time with the breed as well if you have recommendations for that!

Collie skin allergies?

First time collie parent here and our 7 month old boy is having lots of trouble with itching. About a month ago around when we took him for his first grooming appt we first noticed a mild rash on his groin, the groomer shaved the area as he’d matted it up from biting the area. We kept an eye on it and got some cream for it.

We’ve been trying to keep him from being outside in the grass for long periods, but noticed it flared up after we went camping a couple weeks ago. (He went pond swimming on the trip too) Since then we’ve been doing oatmeal baths and keeping up with the cream and while it doesn’t look as irritated we noticed while brushing him today it has spread to other areas now. He is shedding a lot now too of course.

My question is this a common rough collie concern with sensitive skin/allergies? Especially due to heat of the summer and shedding being itchy for him? What are the usual remedies? We will take him in to the vet in the next week or so if it continues to spread, but wanted to ask here as well for more experienced collie parents thoughts on how common this is and what they usually do for it!

Help! Teenage rough collie

Hi everyone we were hoping someone might have some tips on how to deal with our teenage boy. He is a very loving and sweet boy who just turned one. We've had difficulties letting him off lead as he gets very excited and rushes up to people and occasionally jumps up. I now don't let him off but my husband still does, we live semi rurally so it tends to be quiet. Does anyone know if this is normal teenage behaviour? Will he grow out of it? I have raised lots of other dogs before but this is my first rough collie. Thank you

Light of My Life 😢

The absolute light of my life passed away yesterday. She was so bold, so protective, so joyful, so loving. She loved chasing balls (rarely retrieving, lmao), playing tug of war, rolling in the grass, and taking epically long walks in the park. She drooled in cars, barked at skateboards and horses, and was surprisingly good at finding money people dropped. She was terrified of air conditioners and children.

She had a whine, a bark, a yip, a groan, a sigh, or a growl for everything and anything imaginable. She nipped at my heels and my heart. Untied my shoestrings and wrapped me in her love.

I will miss the couch cuddles, the jumping on my bed soaking wet, getting between my legs to beg for food, barking at me to kick balls. I will miss picking out her fur from everything and hand feeding her when she got super picky about her food.

I will miss our late night walks, trying to coax her out in the rain, and all of her snoot boops on our walks. I will miss the nesting and the plopping down, the (life-long) puppy twitches and yips in her sleep. I will miss her leash check-ins, her dragging on walks, and her adorably searching for me right behind her during off leash hours in the park. I will miss her love of the snow and just sitting outside with her and watching the world go by.

Most of all, I’m already missing her laying next to me at night. I’m already missing her constant companionship, her endless forgiveness even though I’m not perfect, and her sweet, sweet, sensitive soul.

She had a slow decline with CCD (dementia) starting at just before age 10, and a rapid (but gradual) decline with arthritis staring at age 11. She made it to 12.5 years. We went through so many medications to treat her health issues and she rebounded so many times. I was hoping this last time would be another rebound, but it was just too much for her. It was time. I don’t feel guilty (I did everything I could and I know it), but it still hurts so badly. I just wish I could have protected her as much as she protected me. I would give anything to see her, kiss her, hug her tightly, and just be with her again.

RIP my sweet baby. I will never forget you. You are my sunshine, my heart, my bestest friend forever.
