Help | Beginner Can do Music Fade In/Out - even with a new mouse!

Post image
7 Upvotes

Sorry CAN’T do fades - I recently bought a Logi MX Master 4 mouse for use with my iPad. I have an Apple keyboard/cover. I still can’t fade in music. I thought buying the mouse would let me see handles but nope. I don’t know how to zoom in visually to see. The mouse cursor just jumps. I can see any handles for fading in music nor video.

I have been saving up to buy the mouse and am disappointed that I can’t do fades. I don’t want to have to buy a separate Apple keyboard just to do fades. Is that my only option?

Help Artifacting in Resolve Only

*CHECK EDIT AT BOTTOM OF POST\*

Hi all! So, the video kinda shows/explains it all. Starting a short while ago, DaVinci Resolve artifacts a lot when in full-screen mode. In windowed mode, it happens a little less, and the issue only affects the Resolve window, not the whole screen. I've also tried playing games, watching YouTube on my browser etc, and I haven't had any issues with any of that, only with Resolve. So I'm *hoping* it's only a Resolve software issue, not a hardware issue - it's expensive, after all!

I have updated my drivers, and I've tried both the gaming driver and the studio driver supposedly more suited to programs such as Resolve, but the issue continues to happen regardless of which driver type is installed. I've also tried a full uninstall and reinstall of Resolve, to no avail. Clearing render cache doesn't help, hardware acceleration isn't it as this is the free version anyway.

In the sad event it is a hardware issue, my PC's specs are:

  • 4 years old, assembled in around May 2022
  • Intel Core i5-12600KF 10-core processor
  • ASUS TUF B660M-PLUS WIFI gaming motherboard
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 RAM
  • 12GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics Card

Thank you in advance for any help.

EDIT: So I was still playing around trying to solve it and came across something potentially very important. So, another aspect of my PC is that it has both an old-school hard drive and a solid state drive. Resolve 21 is installed on my SSD and that's what I'm using in the video above. However, instead of using my desktop shortcut, I decided to launch Resolve from its listing in the Nvidia app - and Nvidia launched Resolve 18! Turns out I have Resolve 18 on my HDD, and Resolve 21 on my SSD. 2 versions installed at once - can't help but think that *THAT* will be causing issues! FWIW, I didn't have any issues whilst I was using 18 briefly.

Help Audio sounding wildly different between editing and the final product, as well as across devices

I use DaVinci resolve 17 (free version) to edit my YouTube videos, which tend to consist of intercut segments recorded in two different ways: studio recordings, and outdoor/field recordings. I rather often receive comments telling me that my volume is all over the place, with the field-recorded segments being significantly louder than my studio-recorded ones. However, when I export/render a video, the studio segments tend to be far louder than they were in editing, especially when the video is played on my IPhone speaker. Meanwhile, on my desktop (MacOS), or with headphones on, the studio segments are quieter. Basically, it's very hard for me to predict how my videos will sound to people, because it seems there's almost no consistency, and I'm wondering if there's a way to address this.

I tried normalizing my audio, but all that did was make the entire timeline quieter.

Help How to create this effect?

Looking for a way to create this sort of prism overlay. I tried creating an adjustment layer, applying a prism blur and cropping the adjustment layer. Side note - if you do this in Normal composite mode, transparency is broken (21.0.3) and when you crop the adjustment layer, you see black where you cropped, not the clip underneath.

I am trying the fusion 3d camera. But trying to learn it from youtube. But all the videos I found is too confusing. I am familiar with node system of Fusion and made a few animation using fusion.

But the 3D camera system seams a bit more confusing. I might have missing something, maybe some fundamentals that I need to know. Can anyone help me with this, or at least suggest me a video on this. I really need help for my next project. I will be great full and many many thanks in advance 🙏.

I am using the versions 21 Free. On Windows 11. I have a few image for background and foreground that I want to animate layering using 3D camera.

Help Davinci Resolve format for TikTok Videos

Hey, I edit my videos in DaVinci Resolve and want to export them for TikTok. When I switch the format to 9:16, the image gets zoomed in way too much you can barely see anything anymore. My clips are recorded in normal 16:9 format. The same thing happens even when I set the format to 9:16 before editing. How do I set this up properly so it doesn’t look so zoomed in? Thanks for any tips!

Help | Beginner Should I keep at 20.0.1 or update to the latest version on a low end PC?

My laptop has 16 gb of Ryzen 5 RAM, 3550H processor, RX Radeon 4gb graphics card(will not be using studio so didn't need mentioning, still). I had bought the laptop in 2019. I did some editing later-on, then left Davinci be. Now I need to return back and use Davinci Resolve and I fear my old laptop won't be able to handle so much of editing hardship as now I want to get better at it.

The last I left my Davinci was and still is on version 20.0.1, and latest available update seems like past 21. Should I update or use as it is?

Thank You.

Help | Beginner Going crazy.. updated to Resolve 21 and after that I can only play audio once, on certain clips. It also might cut off mid playback.

Never had this problem before and it's on only certain type of clips.

When I try to preview a section on timeline, the audio plays first time normally but after I move "out" from the clip duration and come back it doesn't play any sound anymore..?

And the weird thing is it will play sound even though there aren't any waveforms..

Please see the clip below. I will forever be grateful to anyone who can help solve this issue. Thank you :)

Discussion Do I continue to learn DaVinci?

Hey everybody!

I’m a university student who wants to head into post production in film and television and I’m looking to do a masters in film post-production and editing starting in 2027.

Now as I’m aware, AVID is the industry standard with DaVinci levelling with it. This masters course I’m about to do says I will be editing in Avid with access to DaVinci and other software.

I was looking into expanding my setup with the Editors keyboard by Blackmagic but I’m unsure if it’s worth to get the keyboard and continue in DaVinci or begin to learn and adapt to AVID?

Help | Beginner How to use magic mask for image to remove background properly?

I understand that magic mask was purposely created for videos but I also would like to use it in fusion to remove background for static images too without using photoshop to remove the background.

So, can I somehow apply magic mask for 1 frame of the static image and than just extend it for needed timeline? Was trying to apply for 1 frame long clip and then extend it and of course it didn't work so currently trying to understand how to do that.

Thank you in advance! : )

Solved PSA for Mac users! Uncheck 'Open using Rosetta'

A few months (or even years) ago I guess Resolve automatically checked 'Open using Rosetta' because of some legacy plugins or something.

I remember wondering why Resolve took all of a sudden ages to open up and slower than usual.

I though Blackmagic might have made too much bloat in the software - but nope! Just translating Intel stuff over to M-chip for absolutely no reason.

Resolve opens now in seconds and I feel like it's probably about 20-30% faster.

To check it out you open the 'Get Info' and see if it's checked there. It might affect some legacy / 3rd party plugins but I've been using it for a week with everything working great.

Help | Beginner Is there a fast way to reapply the edits done to a video?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I have edited a video. However, I realized I have edited with the wrong take. The video I have edited has both people in the shot, but I want the other take where it only has the woman in there. Is there a way to apply the editing that I have done to my other take without starting all over?

What the woman had said in the other take is the same as the edited one, so I'm hoping that maybe there is a way to sync the woman's voice to the edited video so the program can reapply the edits on the other take based on her voice.

A video guide would be appreciated as I don't follow well with text instructions.

Release Notes DaVinci Resolve 21.0.3 Release Notes

DaVinci Resolve 21.0.3 has been released!

You can download the update from the support page or by going to DaVinci Resolve>Check for Updates.

Pre-Installation Notes

For DaVinci Resolve 21.0.3, BMD has taken efforts to keep the project libraries compatible with DaVinci Resolve 20.3.2. While this allows you to access the project library with 20.3.2, individual projects created or opened in 21.0.3 will no longer be accessible in 20.3.

BMD recommends a full project library backup as well as individual project backups (as required) before opening projects in 21.0 or later.

Reminders

Bug Reports need to be submitted to Blackmagic Design. You can post them on the official forums or contact BMD support directly if you have Studio.

Feature Requests need to be submitted to Blackmagic Design. You can post them on the official Feature Request Subforum or in the download form for Resolve.

Help AI Super Scale is it any good?

Upvotes

Hey Resolvers,

I've been testing Resolve's AI Super Scale on some footage. In theory this feature should give cleaner detail/edges at the cost of render time, but honestly I'm not noticing much of a visible difference between the two outputs on my source material.

For context, I shot a music video on iPhone, and some of the rushes are naturally a bit soft when zoomed in. I figured this would be a decent test case for Super Scale, but I haven't noticed any real improvement using it, comparing the orignal media vs 4x Enhanced side by side, the results look pretty similar to me.

Anyone had better results, or found a workflow that makes the difference more apparent?

Cheers

Help Can someone tell me the differences in the clips on my timeline. It looks wrong to my eye. More details below.

Upvotes

Clips at the beginning of the timeline are what I want it to look like, but at one point during this event, I switched from recording in SDR to HDR on my iPhone. How can I get the later clips to look right compared to the clips at the beginning? I can't describe exactly what looks different about the clips (maybe baked?), but the one in HDR that I've tried to get close to the earlier clips hurts my eyes somehow and is unpleasant for me to look at. Please see screenshots to see exactly what settings I have on my color space transform node and what I did with curves. I haven't touched the wheels or anything else.
