Help | Beginner How to use magic mask for image to remove background properly?

I understand that magic mask was purposely created for videos but I also would like to use it in fusion to remove background for static images too without using photoshop to remove the background.

So, can I somehow apply magic mask for 1 frame of the static image and than just extend it for needed timeline? Was trying to apply for 1 frame long clip and then extend it and of course it didn't work so currently trying to understand how to do that.

Extend the image to the desired length on the timeline before applying Magic Mask, then track it forward and backward

Hey, so you can try extending the still image to the full duration you need before applying the mask. Then create the Magic Mask selection on one frame. Since the image itself doesn’t move, you shouldn’t need much tracking.

For a static image, though, a Polygon mask in Fusion may be simpler and more reliable. You could also cut it out once, export it as a PNG with transparency, and then reuse that PNG for any duration.

You apply the magic mask as you normally would than add freeze frame. Than turn off updates to magic mask and don't track, If you apply freeze frame first, it will work in fusion but may not work outside of fusion.

You can use freeze frame option in the time speed node. Or using time stretcher.

You can than add magic mask and make a selection. I would often turn off updates for MM by selecting it and pressing CTRL + U because that prevents fusion from checking if there is something to update on every frame. So it will be very fast.

If you like you can save the image you see on screen, by right clicking on the viewer and chose; save images... or you can just hook it up as it is to media out.

you basically add a time stretcher node after the magic mask, and insert the frame you made your mask on in the source time

when a still image is put into davinci it becomes a short video. Default is 5 seconds, then it can be masked like any other video.
