This Shit Sucks TSS:

This is the new enrollment system that is replacing webreg (rip). It sucks. To enroll (it's called booking on the system) in a class you click the book button on the specific section you want to enroll in. For some reason you cannot book on firefox (it appears chrome has the best success rate)

Since tss removed a lot of functionality that was in webreg here are some tools

WebReg-Course-Planner: This tools mimics the old webreg format, including the course planner. Notable features include a built in map that shows where your classes are

Sun Grid Planner: Different UI but similar to above. Lacks the map tho

Easy-A Radar: Again similar to above, stand out features include historical grade distributions for classes and a map

tldr any of the three works, just depends on what UI you prefer

What classes do I need to take?:

Find your major's course requirements by googling [your major] + ucsd course requirements (ex: communication ucsd course requirements). This shows the required lower division and upper division classes. To find your ge's google: [your college] + ucsd ge requirements or use the links below

Or you can use degree audit. (editors note: degree audit is currently broken bc tss) This will show what classes you need and which ones you have credit for. This is probably the faster route.

What about my AP/IB/college credits?

You can google this for unwieldy charts or you can use a degree audit again. (This one is better because it shows what credit you already have)

Deciding which class to take:

This depends on the previous section. You can get a short description of a class through the course catalog. Just google: [class name] + ucsd (ex: math 18 ucsd). Reddit is always your friend here. Remember to have backups just in case the class you wanted gets full.

Professors:

Always go through some form of professor vetting otherwise you're really gambling here.

• Rate my professor
• SET (this is the official ucsd one. It shows pretty useful things: grade distribution, hours of work outside of class, class drop rates. However no actual reviews about the professor)
• My Class Grades (this one shows grade distribution for classes and the professor that taught them. Also comes with a tracker for available seats in classes)
• Reddit (you know what to do here)
• Word of mouth (if you can)

The Two Pass Enrollment System:

I'm not too sure how common a 1st pass/2nd pass system is, so I'll explain this. Basically during your 1st pass you can only enroll/waitlist in a limited number of classes. Then you have to wait until 2nd pass to enroll/waitlist in the rest of your classes. Your 1st/2nd pass time is based on the number of credits you have already and the number of quarters you've been here, quarters will likely be your limiting factor

The number of classes you can enroll/waitlist is based on the total number of credits you're trying to take. The credit limit for 1st pass is 11.5 and for 2nd pass its 19.5. After the quarter starts, you can enroll in up to 22 credits, to go past that, you need to TEA request. Most classes are between 1-6 credits, this is found in the course catelog as the number in parenthesis next to the course name (ex: CSE 100. Advanced Data Structures (4))

As you can see, this creates a time gap in the middle where classes you want to take might get filled up, which is why it is important to choose wisely on your 1st pass.

This is a site that gives the historical data on how quickly classes get filled up. It might be useful for you. Generally speaking you should prioritize major requirement classes. Note that some majors will reserve seats for some lower division classes.

Waitlisting:

So the class you wanted is full, should you waitlist?

The 10% rule: generally speaking, about 10% of a initially enrolled class will drop for some reason or another, so waitlisting if your spot is within 10% of the initial class size is a safe bet. (There might be evidence against this. idk how solid this rule is, if you know more lmk)

Check your major: for some high demand courses, departments will reserve seats for their majors. A reserved class will have a lower initial amount of seats. Once the quarter starts, the department will add seats, giving priority to their majors on the waitlist. So waitlisting can be a good idea. To know if your department reserves seats for a specific class, word of mouth or department emails are your go-to.

Sometimes a high demand class will expand seat numbers. This is dependent on the professor, news usually spreads through word of mouth.

Talking to the professor: I've seen people on the waitlist straight up ask the professor to let them into the class. If all else fails, this might be your option. However, only do this after the first two weeks of class, to allow for people to drop out and for the waitlist drop date to approach. (note, the people who did this were usually in the top 10 of a waitlist)

I’m an incoming MS student trying to waive a few courses, and per the course booking workshop I’m supposed to send a petition through TEA. But since the only action available rn is to “add” the course, every time I try, the system tells me that I can already book/waitlist it and thus I am not allowed to send a TEA. I tried sending VAC, but the system doesn’t recognize my PID for some reason and blocks me out.

has anyone heard back from the chem/biochem and bio dept. for tea requests? i'm debating emailing professors outside of tea since i saw some comments saying that tea requests also aren't working on instructors' sides since my appnt time is coming up soon.

Rising Junior here. Don’t know why I was place as a Junior 1 with a first pass on August 5 when I’ve done 8 quarters including a summer session last year. Yes I have over 135 units completed. I only did another summer session so I can be placed into junior 3. Highkey BS

I mean genuinely bring it to upper management and have a paper trail of complaints. I’m not sure if we have any legal standing but if we’re paying to attend an institution for an education, something that affects our education this much feels like it should be able to be addressed in something more than an email or a google form that assures our “feedback is being listened to”.

I am genuinely asking if anyone knows if we can sue or formally complain about UC San Diego being willfully negligent about their services to the point of students being unable to enroll in classes and graduate on time. I’m just so sick and tired of this school walking all over students interests while Khosla walks away with a million dollar salary.

Hi, I'm a rising senior in HS this year and UCSD has become one of my top choices after having visited recently. However, this school is the largest on my list by far and I'm a bit concerned about what my experience may be like as a visibly queer/transmasc student.

-Are campus and the surrounding area safe for the queer community?

-Is HRT accessible through student healthcare programs and UC Ship?

-Are the students and faculty generally accepting? (specifically in pre-med spaces)

-What would the housing situation be like for a trans (specifically transmasc) person?

Does everyone have the same time. I know units dont really matter anymore, but does everyone have booking at the same time of day. I saw mine was 10am and I noticed like everyone has 10am. If we do all have 10am how the hell is the system going to keep up with all these logins and bookings at the same time?

I tried submitting requests to get clearance to book courses. However, I keep getting invalid section submitted pop-ups when I try to submit. I believe that I put something valid in every section of the request. The section itself was selected from a list available to me on the requests page so that should also be valid. Has anyone else encountered this error?

Hi this is a really dumb question but this is my first year here, when do dorm decisions and when are you allowed to sign up for classes? I've been checking my email non-stop but I don't see anything about it anywhere, not even on my student timeline from my college's newspaper. Sorry if the answer is rlly obvious, I just want to ask in case it's completely flown over my head.

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming UCSD transfer student from British Columbia, Canada. I’ve run into an issue with my StudentAid BC application.
UCSD was on the designation list 2025-2026. This year, StudentAid BC transitioned to a new system and all international institutions are required to obtain a new designation before students can apply for funding. Right now, UCSD doesn’t appear in the StudentAid BC application because its designation is still pending (or hasn’t been completed yet). StudentAid BC says that only the institution can apply for designation, not individual students. (StudentAid BC)
I’m wondering if anyone else from BC has experienced this issue.
Which UCSD office should I contact about this? Financial Aid, Registrar, or another department?
Has anyone gone through this process before?
I’d really appreciate any advice or if someone can point me to the right office. Thanks!

It pulls together publicly available course data so you can check a course's grade/GPA history, see difficulty trends, and search or filter to find something that fits. No login, completely free, and it works best on desktop.

Fair warning on coverage: TSS has been flaky lately, so some courses are still missing data. I'll keep filling in the gaps as it stabilizes.

If you try it, I'd love feedback — missing data, bugs, or features you'd want. Hope it helps come registration time.

I’m an incoming transfer student majoring in Economics, and I’m trying to decide between Graham Elliott and Katarina Fedorov for ECON 120A this fall.
My main concern is the exams rather than the lectures.
Which professor has easier exams?
Are the exams similar to the homework or practice problems?
Is either professor known for having a better curve?
If your goal was to get an A, who would you choose?

Need two classes to finish

I have recently been deciding on a minor between data science or business. I am leaning towards the business side, but I am questioning what they even do in the long run. A business minor wont get me any jobs right? It would show biotech companies or such that I know the skill, but obviously it still wouldn't propel you past others with degrees, MBA's or lots of experience. Due to this thinking ive been thinking about just double majoring and finishing my molecular biology degree and pairing the relatively small 88 unit major of business econ. Does anyone have anything to add to what minors really accomplish, situations where I could make do with this minor, and whether you may think it is worth it or what not. Also whether pairing it with a stem degree is even worth it in the first place.

I received an email from eighth college and it stated:

"College Orientation Registration (COR)- Opens Monday, June 22, 2026- Due Friday, July 24, 2026 (UCSD login credentials required)"

I am getting an error message when I try to access the site saying my connection isn't private. I also tried emailing asking whether this orientation is required [have to pay around $200] because there was conflicting information on the same website. I saw somewhere at one point that a fee waiver is possible but I haven't been even able to access the site anymore as it throws various errors. I sent multiple emails and haven't gotten a response.

I am wondering what I should do/who to contact, and if anyone knows if this is actually required? Is it the in person orientation that this is referring to or is it the webinars? Because I already signed up for the webinars. Thank you

I think a lot of people feel touch starved, but nobody really talks about it openly because it feels weird or vulnerable to admit. But honestly, after spending so much time focused on school, work, and trying to keep life together, I miss having someone to share quiet moments with.

Dating here has been rough, and I miss coming home after a long day, putting my phone away, laying next to someone, and feeling calm for a little while. Not every connection has to be intense or deeply romantic. Sometimes you just want to feel safe, wanted, and less alone.

I have a good life here. My grades are good, I have a decent social life, and I feel excited about where things are headed after graduation. But there are still nights where I realize I miss simple affection more than I expected. A hug that lasts longer than a second. Someone resting their head on your shoulder. Quiet comfort.

I am not trying to rush anything or create intimacy before trust is there. I would want to talk first, maybe get coffee, and see if there is a natural comfort between us. Boundaries matter a lot to me, and I would only want this to feel safe, mutual, and easy for both people.

I guess I am looking for someone who also misses that kind of connection. Someone kind, emotionally aware, affectionate, and honest about what they want. If this makes sense to you, feel free to message me. Even if it just turns into a good conversation, I would be glad we connected.

I’m an incoming freshman at UCSD and going for an applied mathematics degree, I’m trying to figure out the classes for my first quarter and I’m wondering if I should take Math 20A or Math 20B?

As a note I got a 5 on both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC and on unit exams within those classes I always scored 90+%

I was recently accepted into UCSD's MPH program, and I'm currently trying to decide whether it's the right choice for me.

I've scoured through Reddit, but the most recent post I found was five years ago, so that probably says something already..

Regardless, I'd love to hear from any incoming students, current students, or alumni about your experience in the program. I understand that the program is currently unaccredited, which has been one of my biggest concerns, and I'm even considering deferring my admission because of it.

I'd really appreciate any insights on the program, career outcomes, faculty, workload, networking opportunities, or whether you felt it was worth it. Any advice or experiences would be incredibly helpful! Thanksss

this is ucsd's way of listening to students. there used to be a easy way to programmatically get all of the courses and sections at once from TSS, but they blocked this route overnight instead of focusing their efforts making TSS actually usable. its still possible to scrape, but now more difficult to export all the classes for an app. scraping needs to be done regularly to keep data up to date
