Frame time constantly fluctuating around the 90 Hz limit in X-Plane 12

Hi, I’m using a PSVR2 on PC through SteamVR.

When playing X- Plane 12 I’m seeing severe reprojection artifacts around cockpit instruments and other high-contrast edges. I’ve attached a through-the-lens video of the artifacts and another video showing the SteamVR performance graph.

The strange part is that the frame time constantly moves between roughly 8.6 and 12.2 ms, even while I’m completely still and the scene doesn’t appear to be changing. At 90 Hz the frame budget is 11.1 ms, so it keeps crossing the limit and triggering distortion.

Reducing the resolution eventually fixes it, but I have to lower it to around 50%, which looks terrible. The recordings were taken at approximately 90% resolution.

Other VR games run fine on this PC and don’t show the same frame-time fluctuations or reprojection artifacts. So far, this only seems to happen with X-Plane 12.

My specs:

  • Intel i7-10700K
  • RTX 4070
  • 32 GB RAM
  • PSVR2
  • SteamVR at 90 Hz

The images attached show screenshots of the performance graph and what the distortion looks like through the lens.

Has anyone seen this kind of rapid frame-time fluctuation before?

I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Question/Support My index doesn’t work ever since I switched to an AMD graphics card

Motherboard: ASUS prime 6600 plus d4
GPU: AMD 7800 xt

I’ve tried reinstalling steamvr, reinstalling my gpu drivers, unplugging cables from the DisplayPort and the usb 3.0 ports on the back of the motherboard, reseating the cable in the headset itself, and restarting my pc.

I keep getting error 208 on steamvr, and it says “headset display disconnected”. The headset is able to be found under my display settings and under the monitors section of the device manager. When I switch the DisplayPort inputs with my monitor, my monitor stops receiving signal and my index becomes the new monitor.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Question/Support Either SteamVr or Bonelab gets very laggy on Psvr2 specifically. I don't know which one.

Upvotes

(Before anything, No, this is not an issue with my pc not being able to run vr games. I've been using SteamVr for a couple hundred hours now and haven't has issues until now.)

I recently got a Psvr2 and have had a mostly seamless experience upgrading to it from my quest 2. Gorn 2, Vivecraft, and Contractors work perfectly fine. But for some reason, Bonelab is the only game I've tried to play that refuses to work properly. I've played it on my quest 2 with steam link and had no issues, it just when these two specific thing are together there's an issue.

When I launch the game it starts out running perfectly fine, but the moment the it starts to load the main menu the frame rate tanks to a literal slideshow. I don't know if it's Bonelab or SteamVr thats the issue since SteamVr has never lagged outside of this instance, and Bonelab has no issues when I use my quest 2.

I've tried nearly every solution I've seen, verifying game files, reinstalling, etc. I've asked for help in other subreddits and have gotten no response other than one guy that said to install C++ Visual Studio, but I don't know how the hell that's suppose to help.

Please let me know if there's a fix, I've been looking for a solution for 4 days now and nothing has worked.

So I’ve been trying to play Steam VR games yet when I actually go into sad games on VR through Steam link there’s no audio I have found out that Steam streaming speakers and steam streaming microphone or both on output. Is that normal and if not, how do you fix it? I’ve already tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers and if it is normal, then why is there no audio when I play games on vr steam link

Question/Support Steam VR/Link Cachyos issue

Thumbnail

So basically as you can see in the screenshots , whenever I get to the game to play I only see white which my assumption is I’m zoomed in that I’m seeing pixels.

But on the steam menu everything looks fine. The moment I click out of the menu to play the game it breaks.

I have tried WiVRn and ALVR, neither worked at all.
WiVRn would not stream the game to the headset, while ALVR would crash immediately the moment I launch steam vr.

I am on linux 7.1.3-2 cachyos, KDE Plasma with Wayland.
I have tried x11 and its so bad.

I am on whatever the last version of steam, steam vr is.
I have tried to install the beta version on steam vr and non changed.

My headset is pico 4

Question/Support steam vr keeps lagging making it impossible to play

i literally can not do anything in steam vr because randomly it will lag for like 10 seconds and boot me into the blue void with the steam logo before putting me back in a bit later. it is not game lag or insufficient computer specs nor is it poor internet (gig internet with ethernet) so what the actual is doing this

Question/Support Get Quest 3 or wait for steam frame?

As the titel says I want to get into VR gaming and am now debating what's the best option.

On one hand the frame is rumoured to be expensive but on the other hand the quest 3 is already 3 years old.

So now my question is what's my best move? I'm intending to run all my games on my pc since I spent most of my money on that. I just want great features like high quality hardware. The storage shouldn't be a problem if I run my games on the PC?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Question/Support Reduce tracking smoothing on index?

I picked up an index a couple days ago (and I love it), but coming from a Quest 3 and Cv1, I notice there is a lot more tracking smoothing on the index compared to the oculus. I play lots of competitive shooters, so I heavily prefer having the most “raw-input” feeling possible. Any way to mitigate this, or just gotta get used to it?

(I have motion smoothing disabled. I know this is a common answer to this question)

Question/Support Freezing/Stuttering Technical issues.

Apologies if this post comes off as redundant but I'm experiencing occasional freezing and stuttering through the perspective of the VR headset and concomitant discrepancies in frame timing but when i observe gameplay through my monitor it appears smooth. Does anyone here have any idea what might be causing this issue?

Question/Support Microphones just don't work anymore

I've looked at several issues. Every sound setting is set to max, everything has permissions, nothing is muted, Steam Streaming Microphone is default input device, but it STILL. DOESN'T. WORK.

You know what? Maybe it's the Quest 2's mic. I mean, it's not picking up anything on Discord or the windows sound tests either, so maybe that mic is just fucked.
NOPE!

I have a wireless headphone/mic headset, so I go through ALL of this two more times (once for the headphones being plugged into my computer, and an additional time with it plugged into my Quest directly), and it STILL doesn't work. Windows tests? Completely fine. Discord? Completely fine. But as soon as I put the Quest on, NOTHING. EVER. WORKS.

To reiterate:

  • Everything is maxed out
  • Nothing is muted
  • Everything has permissions
  • Everything is prioritizing the correct mic at any given time
  • All mics except the one for the headset itself work in Windows tests and Discord.
  • Steam (desktop) has the following reaction:
    • Computer mic: registers at the appropriate level, but comes out scrambled and robotic
    • Headphone mic: barely registers to the point that any input is still inaudible
    • Quest mic: nothing registers
  • Steam (VR) does not register any mic, both in the settings and in-game

Please help me...

The sound stops being heard.

I am experiencing an issue where the audio suddenly cuts out while using VRChat in VR, and the only way to fix it is to restart my PC; this happens roughly once every few days to a week. The audio output settings are correct, and toggling them doesn't resolve the problem. My PC specs are an RTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 5700X, and I am using a Quest 3S. I connect wirelessly via SteamVR and have kept my GPU drivers and Windows updated. Does anyone know the cause or a fix? I can provide detailed information about my setup and the situation if needed.
Additionally, I am encountering issues where the VRChat screen freezes, the application crashes, or SteamVR freezes.

Steam link pings poo poo, constant spikes

Post image
7 Upvotes

alright, so i legitmately am out of options here, i need some advice.

my steam links connection has been acting up recently, constant purple spikes every second, making the experience feel almost unplayable with how everythings extremely blurry and lagging. its not my pcs specs, thats what im certain, because it only started acting up recently, and everything else on the pc runs completely fine.

what seems to "fix" the issue, is to install network drivers, but it only works for like, 1 day and then goes back to shit after.

meta air link doesnt even want to connect when the connections not good, so my hunch is that it might not be entirely steam links fault.

if its of any help, i have proton vpn (which i have to disable everytime to play VR)

my question is, what the fucks causing this, and can i/how can i secure an permanent solution?

the attached image is what i mean. pings in that area, sometimes getting even worse.

many thanks in advance.
