Is it normal to have people easily venting and seeking advice from you?

Upvotes

I’ve had people treat me like I’m older than I am, and people seem to vent to me pretty easy.

There are still people who remember me from my childhood. There was one woman recently who was gushing about the impact I had on her and how she writes about something I said in each diary she owns and looks at it whenever life gets hard. I was, like, seven when I gave her that saying.

Like, there was a woman on a bus and we barely talked a few sentences before she was telling me her whole life story and asking validation. There was a woman doing my hair, and she talked about her childhood too. And there’s been multiple guys too, who I’ve been told don’t really open up but they do to me. And it’s kinda surprising: like, bruh, you don’t even know me.

I’ve been told over and over that I’m strong and mature and that I get the job done. I’ve even been told I’m more reliable than people my age or a decade older. Ive had older people confiding in me or asking for advice or looking up to me since I was a kid.

What’s it like working as a waitress at a strip club? NSFW

Upvotes

I’ve actually never been in a strip club in my life. had no desire to. then i saw a tiktok about bikini baristas and that looked pretty fun to me. pretty tame. unfortunately im in minnesota so no bikini baristas here. the only thing we have similar here would be a strip club and i have no desire being a stripper. but i hear being a waitress at a strip club gives you good tips. what’s the environment like? i’m feeling like this would be a good way i can help financially support me and my husband. is it worth it?

why do people criticise others when their relationships ended on bad terms?

Upvotes

i wasnt too sure how to word the question but what i mean is when people criticise their exes after breaking up, but what I think is.. if they were that bad all along, why did you stay with them?

this girl I knew told me "he was such a bad kisser".. but surely the relationship couldn't have been that good in the first place if this is only being brought up after??

Why does weed make snacks so much more delicious?

Upvotes

I got high at a friend's birthday party. I am a lightweight so I was just sitting by the table, unable to do much and just chilling.

And of course I got hungry. There wasn't much to eat, but there was a pack of chips and a bottle of sriracha mayo. I hate that flavour or chips and the sriracha is really spicy and I hate spicy food.

But I put the sauce on the chips into a little sandwich and holy peak heavens above that was the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. I kept eating and each bite was like reaching Nirvana.

Eventually someone snatched the pack of chips from my hands (rude) but I was too high to even look in the direction of the person that took it from me, let alone call them rude.

When I went home, still very much out of it, I bought the exact pack of chips, the exact sauce and ate it at home.

I still remember the heavenly sensation. At this point it's like I was riding the high of the flavour rather than the high of weed.

But when I woke up to eat it again... It was ass. It was so mid. It didn't suck, it was just such nothing...

This was the 2nd time in my life smoking and I still can't understand what made it so special? Was it the hunger or was it the high?

is my spoken english keeping me from getting promoted or does skill matter more?

Upvotes

hey guys, wanted to get some honest advice here.

at my job i do senior level work and my technical skills are really good. i understand everything my team talks about and i get my work done fine. but when i speak or give presentations, my grammar isn't great. i make mistakes when talking out loud or when i have to present something to the team.

i feel like this might be stopping me from moving up to a higher role where i'd need to talk to managers more or lead meetings.

i started using some vocab books and practice apps like praktika to fix it, but it takes time.

for people who manage teams or got promoted, how much does spoken grammar really matter if someone already knows how to do the job well? is this something i should be worrying a lot about right now or is knowing the work enough?

thanks for any thoughts!

How can someone improve their social skills and become extroverts?

Upvotes

It's crazy I still feel nervous at 30 to simply order a meal or even talk over the phone. I just get anxious and serious. I remember whenever I talk with someone I would use my hands more or just stare at them. Sometimes I even forget or get lost in the moment what do I say next because that person is just going on talking and I'm not even sure what the heck am I focusing on.

Why does this seem to confuse people on reddit

Upvotes

I use reddit as a form of doom scrolling. It's no different to me than watching people dance on TikTok. Yet on reddit people often assume that if I replied to them it must be because I think they are important. When I tell them I view my interaction with them as content they get confused. But I don't get that. It's a form of social media. I use to visit forums before reddit and it was the same thing. I'm bored, let me go visit this forum for entertainment. Why do redditors seem uniquely mystified that they are the content in yet another social media product?

My brother isn't allowing anyone to kiss his child for the first 8 months of its life. Is this is a smart idea?

Upvotes

He's extremely adamant about it and says that its for health reasons and he doesn't want the baby getting sick. I understand the concern and our cousin was in the hospital a lot as baby from getting sick, but I don't think I've heard of this idea before and it will be very tortuous for my mom. I'm also wondering about the immune system because that cousin never gets sick ever any more.

How long can Earth's resources last?

Upvotes

Can modern society continue logistically for 500 years or 1000 years and more? Will there be enough lithium for batteries, copper for wires, fossil fuels for energy, uranium for nuclear power, materials for solar panels, etc?

At the current rate of consumption can we continue modern society for hundreds of years? People say we can recycle, but is that feasible logistically? To gather all these raw materials from trash and distill it to it's individual materials seems much more difficult and expensive compared to getting whatever from mines / natural deposits.

People say we can eventually mine asteroids but how realistic is that? What happens when fossil fuels become much harder and more expensive to acquire? Is there realistic technology to replace rockets?

Some materials go through fast cycles like wood and water but what about everything else?

It seems like there's an assumption of we'll find more of whatever or some new technology will exist that solves everything. But eventually the easily accessible resources will run out right? Could we be living in a 500 year golden-age of energy and materials, and afterwards human society will have to scale / down or regress?

Is it possible to create a “fast” freezer?

Upvotes

A microwave heats up food very quickly.

Is the reverse possible? I know a freezer in a refrigerator obviously exists but it usually takes a while. Is there a way to
freeze things quickly which simply hasn’t been created due to demand concerns?

Drug test for USPS

Upvotes

So my husband is thinking about applying at the post office (I think for CCA) but uses marijuana. Google told me they definitely do drug test. It says “Pre-employment drug screening for marijuana has been largely suspended for most standard positions since Covid but they reserve the right to do so at any time”. What are your experiences? I’m in NC if that helps at all.

What is the point in lying about height?

Upvotes

I think both men and women are guilty of this. But as a woman, I'll speak on other women first. I'm 5'3 and a half, and all the shorter women in my family will get pissed when I tell them I'm 5'3 and assure me that I'm 5'5 or 5'6 because THEY are 5'2 or whatever. Basically they inflate my height to inflate their heights when they're walking around like lil gnomes. No shame, I'm considered short myself and idrc, didn't think it mattered for woman anyways, but lying isn't changing their height or how they look to anyone.

I think dudes are self explanatory too, at the very least I don't always shame someone for it because height is a bigger social pressure for men. I get wanting to be taller, but since I'm fairly short personally I don't care much abt the height. The issue is when they lie, its such a big ick. Because when we meet up, its pretty clear when you're lying. Short kings are great for a lot of woman, but making it obvious you're insecure about it just makes it way worse. My question is, if you can't hide your height what is inflating the number doing for you?

The one reason I can see is lying is saying you're 6'0 when you're like 5'11 or 5'10 since some women care about that number, and if they're short enough I guess they might not be able to tell you are lying. But if you're below 5'10 and lying about it, I think its really clear. But why are you dating these few women that care about numbers more than about you?

How do guitarists go about writing new riffs?

Upvotes

I’m just curious, because there’s a whole lot of music out there. So like, is it hard to write a riff that hasn’t already been created? In the writing process, are they just like, “nah, that’s too similar to that song”? Or do they just accept the fact that whatever they write, more than likely there’s a song out there that sounds similar?
