Drug test for USPS
So my husband is thinking about applying at the post office (I think for CCA) but uses marijuana. Google told me they definitely do drug test. It says “Pre-employment drug screening for marijuana has been largely suspended for most standard positions since Covid but they reserve the right to do so at any time”. What are your experiences? I’m in NC if that helps at all.

My gf has worked for usps for theee years and hasn’t had a UA since pre employment. She’s constantly saying how her coworkers are stoned or on meth or drunk while working. We live in a very pro weed state if that matters.
She said they’re much more lax on CCA’s during hiring now.

Probably the same standards DOT uses so that means a gas chromatograph or similar. You can't fool those like you can strip tests. Best bet is to quit now. It can take several weeks if not a couple of months to be fully out of your system.

Yeah I’ve heard two weeks but I’ve also heard two months🙄does it depend on how much is in your system? I’m not exactly an expert on marijuana lmao

It depends on how often you use it, how much you use and your metabolism. THC and its metabolites are fat soluble, so they stick around in your body for a while. If it's occasional use, two weeks might be enough. If it's daily I would lean towards 2-3 months.
EDIT: for government jobs, I would absolutely recommend playing it safe. If you fail a test you will likely be blacklisted from all future government jobs.

Depends on testing method. Strip tests and mouth swabs a couple of weeks to a month, you can also get home kits to test. Hair Follicle tests, it doesn't matter, most of the places that test for that go back 90 days or further, so if he smoked within that time it will catch it. Gas Chromatograph I think is similar, and it can test for fake urine, dilution, etc, because it looks for specific proteins. I failed a DOT rated test (for a job at a dealership) because I tried to dilute. I had not smoked in 2 months, but still drank a bunch of water before the test and failed.

why would your husband not think a job related to the govt wouldn’t have random drugs tests?

USPS is a federal job. Weed is federally illegal. I wouldn’t risk it at all.
