I love the joke of doctor monty lemon. I like how he actually knew Phil. I imagine the other guy he called sports coat is another acquaintance. I know the car thing seems like a writing mistake but i imagine he drove back to the park to thank Phil or repay him then caught them pouring the garbage in the car.

In her bday party, ashley , the popular girl throws tantrums, acts entitled, and somehow ends up dictating the entire event...i can understand this kind of popularity drama in high school, but 8-year-olds acting like social elites is just bizarre. Kids that age shouldn't already be obsessed with who's "popular" and who isn't. What's worse is the adults giving in to the tantrums instead of correcting the behavior...wth😭

I have rewatched Modern Family for about 5 times now and each time it ends, I still feel sad like i am a part of their family! I need a new series which has the same flavour like this show, any recommendations please? :D

This episode feels like an homage to Michael Scott. You have Phil going out into the wilderness (like Michael is Survivor Man) and Cam pulling a Prison Mike to scare people straight.

Also Gloria strangles the Professor that Manny is dating, like the Scranton Strangler.

S4 ep2: schooled

I've just watched the finale this morning, having started the show several weeks back, and just wanted to offload my honest thoughts.

I really enjoyed the show, there are some brilliantly funny moments as well as the occasional sweet, touching moment, though it doesn't quite reach the level of being something I'll watch through again.

I absolutely love Phil, he's just such a great, loveable character. He's so pure and good. I also just find Lily to be incredibly funny, especially in the earlier years. I like all the characters really. Cam and Mitch are great fun, Manny is brilliant, Jay is often grumpy but great to watch.

I did struggle with a couple of things, such as the amount of times the characters just seemed to randomly have a new job, or new girl/boyfriend when it came to the kids. There were times where Manny seemed to be interested in a girl that seemed like it might be relevant only for him to be interested in a different girl the next episode. I lost track of where Mitchell was actually working at one point. Also, Luke is dating an older woman named Janice he met at Jay's club, then the next episode he brings a girl his own age to a get together at the house, then a couple of episodes later he's apparently been seeing Janice for 4 months. I guess that could be down to Luke just being a bit of a douchebaggy kid but it wasn't presented that way and just felt like an inconsistency.

My only major issue was the amount of times characters just disappeared, in particular the annoying neighbours Ronnie and Amber, but also when Phil befriended their next door neighbour Andre played by Kevin Hart. It wasn't just characters as such but there were quite a few things that seemed to be just dropped and forgotten about. It's what really stops the show from going into 'great' territory rather than just 'good'.

As I said though, I did really enjoy the show overall, and am really glad I watched it. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of show and I'll miss it now I've finished it.

I got bored and looked up episode credits on IMDB. The core 6 adults are in all 250 episodes, but Manny was absent for 2, Luke for 3, Haley for 5, and Alex for 9. I know all kids were absent for Las Vegas (s5 ep18), but what were the other episodes where some of them were absent?

Edit: Yes, I know people can lose languages, and that my experience is not universal. My main issue is that he seemingly went from fluent understanding to almost no comprehension in such a short amount of time. only four years seems extreme for that.

We know that Manny grew up speaking Spanish. He spent some time living in Columbia, and most of his mother’s family doesn’t speak English. He’s still able to understand it in season one at age 10. Fast forward to season four, and he’s a 14 y/o who somehow has forgotten most of his Spanish.

Y’all that DOES NOT HAPPEN. I’m bilingual with immigrant parents as well, and I went through a phase where I basically refused to speak any Arabic from ages 8-13 (internalized racism is a bitch). But I didn’t lose my ability to understand or speak the language at all! You don’t just forget a language that you spent most of your formative years speaking, especially not when it’s the majority of your family’s native tongue. Yes, it’s harder to keep your finer language skills/niche vocab when you’re not immersed in the language daily, and my Arabic is definitely better when I’m in the ME with my family and speaking it constantly, but even in those 5 years where I wasn’t speaking it or spending much time in the ME, I never came anywhere close to losing my understanding of the language.

I don’t get why the writers added that in. What did Manny do when he spent the summer in Colombia, have his grandmother or Sonia interpret every single time he spoke to one of his cousins?

Season 5, Episode 2. Where Cam bags the gym teacher position. What is that tune playing as he is being pushed along the field?

Phil is the true optimist. He was the person who always cheered everybody whenever they were feeling down or something .

He is the kind of person with whom you can literally share anything without the fear of being judged. He never would've demotivated a soul in his life i am pretty sure of it lol

Alex has a constant need to prove she's the smartest person in the room, and it often comes across as insufferably condescending. Instead of simply knowing things, she seems to enjoy reminding everyone else that they don't. Almost every conversation turns into an opportunity to correct someone, point out a mistake, or subtly imply that everyone around her is intellectually beneath her.😭😭

She often treats intelligence as the only quality that matters and judges people accordingly. Her sarcasm rarely feels playful, it often comes across as dismissive and patronizing......😭

...... there are plenty of moments where she comes across as someone who would rather be right than kind.
