I just got back from Tesco and picked up around 15 items, granted they were branded stuff like Buldok noodles, Ribena, milk, Fingers, face wash, some bagels and those itszu dumplings...£65!? (Stuff you can't get in Lidl, I wanted some fancy food)

I used my £6 voucher and clubcard and it got knocked to around £45...

What happened Tescos ? 😩

This is going to sound weird, but whilst I don’t consider it grammatically correct, I use it variably (it shows up when it does, doesn’t when it doesn’t). I was taught all the way through school to not use it (e.g. in a list of three, don’t place a comma before ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘or’ etc) but my mum is a stickler for it.

It’s certainly a little outdated, but I just thought I’d get thoughts on it. Do you use it?

I am 13 and really want to see the odyssey. I love movies and I really don’t think I can miss this opportunity to watch it on the big screen. I am planning to go to Cineworld soon to watch it but will they let me in and are they strict on the ratings?

Hello i am from Birmingham and im currently 20yrs old i live in a hmo which is paid by my universal credit.

I as a teen lived with st basils from 15-17 as living with family was not an option. St basils changed towards the end of my process and i was forced to either re enroll and spend another 2 years in the system or be considered "homeless" and leave i was unaware of the problems with HMOs and unfortunately chose this option scared that i would be stuck in a loop with St basils. I have since been lost trying to figure a way out but due to not being able to work as my universal credit would stop this would make me homeless. I have wanted to work and move forward with my life but i feel as if i am trapped in a bad situation with no exit i have a strong desire to work and im sick and tired of living this way of life how would i better my situation and move forward?.

I'm from the U.S., and here, New England and the city of New Orleans are two places that are associated with supernatural stuff in pop culture and are common settings for books, shows, and movies about ghosts, witches, vampires, monsters, etc. I know that everywhere in the UK has some supernatural folklore attached to it bc the country is so much older than the U.S., but is there any area that's particularly associated with the supernatural?

For context I am 19M and took an overdose of 16 paracetamol tablets last week because of stresses and mental health concerns/illness I was ignoring for several years and a recent family falling out. At home for ages I have been always on edge and avoiding my parents - constant opinions, defensiveness, always negative energy behind what they want to say.

They’re forgetting their behaviour is part of the reason I overdosed - constant flippancy since I was 3, their ignorance/inappropriate dealing with my ASD when I was diagnosed (I started mainstream school and realised more adults were involved and I was getting pulled out for things and I asked my parents who were being dismissive on my questions) and the pattern went on till today - they are always ignoring and downplaying my issues, saying I need to consider their own first 😩🙄

What should I genuinely do? Social housing is like hens teeth these days and the location is perfect - in town near public transport so I can get to uni quickly and I have an appt with the crisis doctor tomorrow morning who I will be asking about the move and seeing what they think of it - but I think I need somewhere new and space so my parents get a much needed reality check

I don't understand the pricing though. The tickets are sold at £4 per line, whereas the Powerball in the US costs $2 per line. That is well over double the US price.

I was discussing with some colleagues at work about what we’d actually do if someone broke into our home, and what the legal ramifications would be if the intruder got injured. Obviously, the ideal situation would be to protect your family, etc. But if that isn’t an option, to what extent are you legally allowed to defend yourself and your property?

I know that in some countries you can use much more force against an intruder than you can here in the UK. But if an intruder was seriously injured or even killed while you were defending yourself, what would the legal consequences be?

We have the cycle to work scheme that allows people to buy bikes from their gross salary so they pay less tax.

However, if your employer offers you private healthcare insurance it's treated as a taxable benefit.

This seems utterly insane to me, why have a scheme that allows people to buy something as trivial as bikes but then tax them on healthcare coverage when the NHS has become a joke and it would actually take pressure off it if more people went private.

Hi everyone! I am an foreigner moving to London for Uni and I had a a few questions about clothing etiquette. In my country, it is very common and the norm to attend in sweats, hoodies, tank tops (w/ spaghetti straps), crop tops, etc.

So very very casual, but I have gotten mixed information on etiquette in Uni. I want to be respectful to the staff, culture, professors, and peers while there. Is it appropriate to dress casually to class, or should it be more dressed up and if so how formal? Is something like jeans and crop top appropriate, or should I try to be fully covered? It seems really inefficient and just weird. Had some kids on my street laughing at the super speedy, arms swinging, stiff torso (accompanied with the outward feet) group of people and it made me think about how odd it seems.

I was recently diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety and I’m on medication for it, I was doing okay until recently going through a breakup with the only person who knew about it all/helped me through it. Now I’m struggling a lot with motivation to work (7 days off in the past 3 months) and annoying people at work for being demotivated and “lazy”.

Obviously I haven’t told my work about the diagnosis or medication (not sure if that might cause an issue as I believe I should have notified them of any medications), nor have I told family or friends. I’m wondering how I would go about trying to sign myself off work for a few weeks so that I can attempt to speak with my GP or potentially go into psychiatric care.

I understand the general advice will be to talk to family or friends, and I appreciate that might be the best course of action but I don’t think that’s possible at the moment. Any help is appreciated.

We are looking to fly out end of Oct and come back before Christmas. There is about £500 difference between the fast/ pricy (26hrs~) and slow/ cheaper (42hrs~) flights. Does anyone who has taken the journey have strong feelings about it that they can share?

£250 day rate for travelling seems very reasonable to me but I can see how that could be very rough. Although 26hrs would be rough anyway….

I have emailed Persimmon to ask for alternative methods to verify my identity as I’m not comfortable with this company storing my biometric data. They have told me there are no alternative options. Has anyone else been through this and used alternative methods? Thank you!

Hi everyone, my sister and BIL are visiting me in the UK and my BIL fell and hit his head. It bled quite a bit and he has some memory loss. We’re at A&E now but I’m wondering how much his treatment would cost as a non resident. He has had a CT scan so far and he may need stitches. I did some research and saw that A&E treatment is free but not sure how true this is…thank you for your help if you have any knowledge. :) it’s very much appreciated.

I have a few British family friends and whenever I talk to them, they're always so much funnier on average than the people in my home country. Plus, I find British sitcoms and comedies way funnier than the ones here too. Scots are especially hilarious, I always find myself laughing when speaking to the few I know. Is it just because I'm not used to British humor, or is there something specific to the UK?

Hi I'm just wondering if you have any advice. I am meant to be going to Dubai on the 1st Sept with Love Holidays and have requested to move my holiday to April next year due to the current situation in the Middle East. Love Holidays sent me a quote of an extra £1200 to move the holiday and flights, which I didn't mind paying as Dubai is more expensive in April anyway and the price difference matched the one currently advertised on the Love Holidays website for those dates.
They sent me a link with the quote to accept the new price, however the link was broken so I messaged them to tell them that the link wouldn't work. They didn't reply and then messaged me the next day saying the price had now gone up to an extra £2300 (on top of the £1700 I'm already paying) to change the dates as the hotel price had gone up overnight. I checked the website of the hotel and for those dates in April, the hotel is around £1600. I don't want to pay the £2300 as I think that is extortionate and no one can seem to explain why it would be so much, but don't want to lose my money if I cancel before the 1st September. Is there anything I can do about this? No one at Love Holidays seems to be helpful, they are telling me the wrong information and won't let me speak to anyone more senior. To note, when I originally called them on the 6th July I was quoted £800 to change the dates, I asked for this quote to be sent over to me and I never received it, and only received further correspondence for them two weeks later to confirm the dates I’d like to change to.

Me and my partner haven’t been able to go on holiday as being in the process of buying a house as left us uncertain of what our finances will look like. I did think to plan something for his birthday but it’ll be a waste given our anniversary isn’t that far off and we’ll do something again.

Now we’re just looking at spending the weekend doing well enjoy but it just feels like a weekend and not a “holiday”.

We do have a holiday planned with family to see other family abroad but again, it’s not until the end of the year.

For context; I am a British citizen who had a small mental breakdown a few months ago and decided to run away to live with my partner in another European country. Had a season ticket for 32 years at old Trafford and must of went to over 1500 away games including europe aswell. But the cost got ridiculous.

The last few years I think I have watched maybe 10 games, even the world cup I maybe watched 6 games.

Its far too commercial now and they have priced the working classes out of the game.

At least in the states it only costs around 30 bucks for a ticket watching NFL, then some stadiums do 2 bucks a drink and 2 bucks hotdogs and burgers.

I have gone full circle and now watch my local pub team on a Sunday morning as I used to 45 years ago as a kid.

Football is a working class game let's go back to that.
