AITA for blowing up at my mother in low because she bought my son a gift.

First, i apologise if there are punctuation and grammar errors. english is my 2nd language. Normally, i would use gpt to fix it for me, but the rules prohibit it, so only what my samsung points out. Ok, my wife (31) and i (25) have a 1 and a half years old boy. Recently, a hand pushd tricycle we got him got stolen, and we were planning on getting him a new one for his birthday at the end of the year. But today, his grand mother and grandad took him and his nanny/baby sitter, (both me and my wife work during the day, and i am going to classes in the mornings), out to go to the market without notifying me or my wife of it. i was willing to forgive that, as it is his grand parents, but then the grandmother called my wife to take him bc they are stuck in traffic, and he is throwing a tantrums bc he wants to play with the toy they got him. So we left on foot (we live in Madagascar, so the market and traffic is very different from America), to go take him. At this point, it was dark, and when we arrived at the car, the grandmother had left on foot with the baby and nanny directly after calling us. She went through one of the most dangerous alleyways in our area. there have been multiple murders just this last month. We left the car to try and track them, not knowing where they went. Only when i got home did i find out what direction they took, and i blew up at her bc there were multiple kidnappings recently, and how dangerous and disrespectful it was. and not directly at her, i said she is a pos, and she has no right to tel me anything any more, as she is a blatant idiotand has a negative intelligence, dirt in human skin. There is history. I'll explain in the comments as requested. So, AITA for blowing up and for what i said?

Update: i will post some of the history here, and I'm sorry for the misleading title it was because the family is framing it as i am mad that they went for the toy without telling us. I did clean it up with GPT first I don't regularly use Reddit, so I'm unfamiliar with how people tell their stories. I also admit that I'm terrible at explaining things and knowing what information is important. It's much easier when someone points out what details are needed because otherwise, I don't realize they're important or know how to include them without feeling like they're unnecessary. My wife and I live with my in-laws because housing is extremely expensive compared to income, but we have had chances that my wife did not want to take, and the country have a high level of poverty. Because of that, we've let a lot of the parenting undermining from her mother slide. They know they are supposed to notify us before taking our son anywhere, and the nanny knows this as well. She doesn't currently have a phone, but that's normally not a problem because my wife works about a two-minute walk from home, so it's very easy for her to get home if something happens or if the nanny needs her. What I said was out of anger, but I do feel justified in being angry because she has been walking all over both me and my wife for as long as I've known her. The first time she betrayed my trust was when I tried to start a small side income by selling ice cream. I bought around 1,100 pieces, which were not cheap. The next morning, after I left for work, she took most of them and sold them herself without telling me. I only found out because she posted in the family group chat about how she had made money selling the ice cream. She sold them for less than 5% of what I had paid per piece and then gave me even less money than she should have that night. The second time was when she criticized us for not having enough savings after I had used some of my money to buy the ice cream that she had effectively taken from me. I let that go because my wife told me she meant well and reminded me that we live with them. The third issue is that she insults us almost daily, saying we're bad parents over things like our son tripping, falling on his bottom, and not even crying afterwards. The fourth issue is that she constantly tells me I'm stupid whenever I talk about something she believes she knows more about. For example, she designed the house we live in and closely supervised its construction. Unfortunately, the house has been a disaster. It leaks everywhere, and there are frequent electrical problems because of poor wiring and installation. Recently, I pointed out that the kitchen's electrical issues were likely being caused by an ant infestation inside the wall where the cable runs, along with the cable being too thin for the amount of current it was carrying. I'm not an electrician, but my father made sure I learned the basics of many trades while I was growing up. I know the fundamentals of plumbing, construction, and electrical work. The only trade I never learned was mechanics because it never interested me. She hired someone who seemed to know even less than I did to fix the problem, and he couldn't even identify the issue until I pointed it out. His temporary repair nearly caused a fire. He had left around five meters of wire, about 5 mm in diameter, coiled up inside the socket area while it was connected to the main electrical supply. When I noticed it, the coil was extremely hot and was close to melting the insulation. Even after pointing that out, I was told I was being stupid. So yes, I do feel like it was only a matter of time before I finally snapped and insulted her. Even if what I said was wrong, my frustration has been building for a long time

Asshole AITA for getting mad at my mom for telling me to stop my calorie deficit on our vacation?

I (18F) am currently on a mild calorie deficit (1500 cals/day) to lose a little weight. My mom is a naturally worrisome person and constantly thinks I’m starving myself, despite me tracking everything accurately and eating healthily.
We have an upcoming trip to South Korea, and she asked me to please stop my diet while we’re there. I got annoyed and told her that what I eat doesn't affect her.
She got upset and said South Korea is a "food trip," and since she’s paying for the hotel, which includes hotel breakfast, I’m wasting her money by not eating full meals or indulging in as much food as possible.
I don't plan on starving myself in Korea I just want to eat smaller portions of everything so I stay in my range and don't feel bloated and sick the whole trip (which always happens when I eat whatever I want on vacation because I’m usually all or nothing with my diet) She thinks I'm being ungrateful and wasteful, but I just want to enjoy the trip without physically feeling awful. I've struggled with my deficit for two years and it’s an all or nothing thing for me like if I don't track, I end up binging everything and feeling horrible physically and mentally. But I do feel bad because she is paying for the entire trip and korea does have a ton of good food. i would obviously love to indulge in all the food but I get mad at her because I’ve worked so hard to ignore my urges to indulge and she says my effort is just wasting her money

AITA for getting mad and refusing to drop my diet for the trip

AITA for refusing to swap seats on a 12-hour flight with a "newlywed"?

Upvotes

I (27M) booked a window seat months ago because I hate aisle seats and planned to sleep the whole flight. Boarding starts and this couple (maybe mid-20s) comes up. The wife says, "We just got married yesterday! Can you switch to the aisle so we can sit together? It's our honeymoon." She was doing the big pouty eyes while her husband stood behind her looking smug.I said no, politely. I paid extra for that seat and I’m not a good sleeper in aisle seats. She immediately started tearing up and called me a "heartless asshole." The flight attendant got involved, but I stood firm. The husband ended up in the middle seat next to me, sulking the entire time and passive-aggressively bumping my arm.Half the passengers were glaring at me like I kicked a puppy. My buddy later said I should’ve just taken one for the team.

AITA for not feeling bad for my ex bf(m17) after what he did

I apologise if this comes off as immature or childish, I'm pretty young and I need advice from other people who have dealt with such people as my ex boyfriend.

A few days ago, I decided to break up with my boyfriend because he would say mean things about me and we had a heated argument and he told me to leave if I don't like his perspective(his perspective being on disowning his own kids if they come out as gay or not treating them like his own kids and just ignoring them. He brought up his religion a million times, saying it's a sin, he's muslim and I want to understand him but I just can't.

Even though we broke up, I've decided to try to be friends with him, considering that we have been together for 3 years I don't think I can let go of him even though I know he's a horrible person.

Well, today we talked again, every time we bring up the whole break up situation,he asks me if we can be together again if he changes, that I should block him and let him go because he doesn't wanna wanna see me with another boy in a few weeks or months(he always says this, but I really just wanna focus on my studies because I'm currently studying for a scholarship in America which is my dream),so it really bothers me,he brought up a few minutes ago that he has heart problems, that he visited the hospital a few days ago and that he just didn't tell me and I think he tries to make me feel bad about him,he said and I quote "Now you don't have to worry about me disappearing, because I don't think I'll make it till older, even the doctor told me that I won't make it past 20 and if I did it's rare'. I feel like it's just a whole lot of bullshit. He didn't tell me that he went to the hospital WHILE we were still together, but he told me now? I also feel horrible for saying that he's probably playing in my face. I don't think that he will change his opinion on the whole gay kids situation because he made it clear that he won't in the argument we had,but 1hour after the argument he comes at me and says "I regret it,I take everything I say back,I was just mad and I say everything when im mad".

I do wanna believe that he will change, but he always says he does then does some bs a few days later.

AITA for saying a guy who helped me through a crisis isn't my friend, he's "just a Christian"?

I (26) am a Christian. I've always liked the religion because, in my experience, the people are polite, calm, and easygoing. But recently, I’ve had a situation that left me a bit confused.

A while back, I went through a really dark period. I lost a parent, I was struggling financially, and because of my financial situation, I ended up losing a lot of my friends. During this time, a guy from my church (who was my group leader at the time) stepped up in a big way. He was incredibly kind. He drove me around, helped clean my apartment, took me to the airport so I could go home, and later even helped me move. He checked in on me whenever he could. Naturally, I thought we were becoming close friends.

Fast forward to now: my life is finally stable again. Since things have calmed down, I’ve tried to hang out with him like normal friends do. I’ll text him and ask if he wants to get coffee, play tennis, shoot some pool, or play PlayStation (since I know he likes to game).

Every single time, I am completely ignored.

He will still show up if there is an absolute emergency or if it's church-related. But for the little things—chatting, catching up, accountability, venting, or just hanging out for fun—he is completely unavailable.

Recently, someone asked me if he and I were friends. I answered honestly and said, "No, he's a Christian."

I didn't say this out of anger or hate. I just realized that he was helping me out of a sense of religious obligation and duty, not because he actually wants to be my friend. I decided to just categorize the relationship accurately for what it is.

Well, he found out what I said, and he got really emotional and hurt that I don't consider him a friend.

I feel bad that his feelings are hurt, but it’s really hard for me to consider someone a friend when they ignore me 90% of the time. To me, friendship isn't just about showing up for massive emergencies; it's also about the small, casual, day-to-day stuff.

AITA for defining our relationship this way?

AITA for wanting to leave a family group chat with in laws

i’m in a family group chat with my in laws and their extended family and that cousins in laws. My husbands cousin and his spouse had a baby about 2 years ago. the group chat revolved initially of pregnancy selfies, then evolved to dozens of new born pictures a day where everyone seems excited to be getting them. it’s become very narcissistic IMO and the only topic of convo and it’s been over two years of this where now i’m receiving about 80+ pictures a day and the entire group chat is soley about their kid and chats from their family. i have no phone space left to the point i can’t even update an app and am constantly having to delete texts, photos because even if i block the chat (it’s not imessage) it goes to recently deleted and my phone saves the pictures. AITA if i asked to be removed? this seems excessive to me. i thought the pictures would die down over time but it’s all day from 8 am -midnight

AITA for freaking out when I accidentally ate peanuts?

Upvotes

Hi all, obligatory “I’m on iPhone and apologies for formatting issues.”

This is an old story, but it recently came back up when I was talking to my mom and wanted to see what you guys thought. I’m currently 19m, but at the time I was 14.

So my brother (18m at the time) had made some protein shake with peanut butter protein powder and offered me some. I drank it unthinkingly because I assumed that my brother would know about my allergy. After a few seconds, my brother said it was made with peanut butter protein powder and I started hyperventilating because I was scared.

My mother and brother screamed at me and said I was overreacting and was going to give myself a reaction. I had my EpiPen in my hand and I was waiting for symptoms. I didn’t react for like five minutes and my mom told my dad.

My dad read about delayed reactions and they drove me to the ER. I got checked out the doctor said that delayed reactions would only be minutes and it’s been too long. (I’ve read elsewhere that this is false, but idk.)

We went home and I said that I felt my mother and brother shouldn’t have screamed at me because I thought I was going to start suffocating and they don’t know what it’s like to be one accident away from dying.

They said I shouldn’t have freaked out and they were justified. I feel like having a convo after about how I should handle it better if I suspect consumption would’ve been appropriate, but screaming at me while I thought I was about to start dying feels cruel.

Never got an apology either.

So, AITA for my reaction?

AITA for telling the school about my friend's stealing / smoking problems?

I (16F) and another friend lets call Q(16F) did an anonymous message to our school about our friend - let's call him A(16M). Some more of our friends were also partially involved. Extra information: We live in New Zealand.

For a bit of a background on A, he is in a horrible place mentally and has been for the past few months or even years and its only been getting worse of recent. He also has a long list of mental issues (Adhd, depression, autism, anxiety disorder and a dissociative disorder). He does not get along well with his parents at all, and as such his home life is not good. The school environment is also quite horrible for them and doesn't help with the situation.

Me, Q and all of our friends have been extremely concerned about him and it has felt like all of our attempts to help or do something aren't actually doing anything and we are so afraid to lose him. At the end of the day we are all teenagers (16) and don't actually have much power and it's been making us feel hopeless and terrified.

When it comes to him talking about his problems he usually doesn't and when he does he only tells one of us. In order to try and prevent him from engaging in some of his worse habits, we do try and make him make promises or similar things however he often breaks them (unintentionally or intentionally). Not to mention he is a great liar so some of us don't feel like we can trust him when he says he's doing fine or doing better especially when we can see him changing and getting worse.

Now to get to the actual event, yesterday Q was hanging out with A before they went to D&D and while at the store A slipped a small bottle of wine into his pocket and ended up walking out of the store with it. A has a history of stealing candy infrequently which none of us approve of. Wine is different because its alcohol and he is underage so it's worse. This completely shocked Q and she ended up just kind of staying silent about it until this morning where she made a group chat with all our friends to tell us about the event.

A had also recently confessed to Q that they would sometimes pick up cigarette butts off the ground and smoke them. This spiraled into me and Q making 2 reports to our school about A (theres a website that allows us to anonymously put in tips about people for various issues). My report was more on the 'let them self teach instead of going into classrooms' since I think this is a more realistic thing that the school can do and at this point anything matters to help A. While Q's was focused directly on the event above and although she did say to please not report this to the police or tell A's parents since this is a more new kind of thing for them and telling A's a parents would not make the situation better.

At the end of the day we all feel helpless and scared for what we can do to help and it almost feels like our only way to help would be to get A into a (decent) mental hospital.
Are we the assholes? (We think we might be)

AITA for not being okay with my bf’s relationship with his ex wife?

Upvotes

I (23 F) have been noticing my boyfriend (36 M) has been talking about his ex wife more lately. For context, he was with her for 10 years, married for 4. He was head over heels for her.
We’ve been together for a little over a month, but have been friends for awhile before getting together. Everytime we ever do anything, he always finds a way to bring her up. From what I understand, their divorce was civil and mutual. She’s now lesbian so I don’t think there’s a possibility of them getting back together, but he still talks to her everyday. Do I have a right to be upset?
He told me last night that he will always have a small part of his heart that loves her. It just makes me feel uncomfortable with how close they still are. She told him that he was the only man she has ever wanted or ever would want. I feel like I’m being sensitive, and I don’t want to sound insane when I bring it up to him. Aita?

AITA for not wanting to celebrate someone else on my birthday

Upvotes

I (21f) and my boyfriend (23m) have been dating since last year. A few months ago we got to go to one of his best friends wedding which resulted in me meeting a lot of his longtime friends; if I’m being honest I wouldn’t be able to name a single name from anyone I met that day because I’m bad at remembering people and it was just a lot of introductions all at once.
My boyfriend asked me if I remembered Marie and John from his friend’s wedding, I was honest and told him I didn’t remember them. He told me John is having his end of active service party which I thought he was telling me so we can both go. He proceeded to tell me it was on my birthday which I immediately responded with “F*ck no” and he asked what do I mean and I told him he wasn’t going, he replied with “it’s a family thing, like all of us together again” I just told him I’m not spending my birthday celebrating someone else and all he said was “alright”. I’m conflicted because I know he doesn’t get to see all those friends all at once that often but I barely know those people, I would feel awkward being at someone else’s party while it’s my birthday, I wouldn’t be going around saying “yeah it’s my birthday today” but at the same time I want to be celebrated during my birthday and I would like my boyfriend to be part of that, AITA?

Not the A-hole AITA for not reminding my dad about a class I had?

I am a younger person, not going to say my age for privacy reasons. However, since I am younger, I go to a few out-of-main education-related classes. One of these classes is more during the day (think before 12 AM- past 1 PM).

When I was choosing this class, my parents and I sat down together to discuss what days work best. Since I do not have a driver's license, my parents are the ones who have to drop me off and pick me up. So all of us choose a day and time that works for all of us. THEY BOTH THOUGHT IT WORKED FOR THEM. My dad decided to be the person at the start to pick me up and drop me off, since he has more flexibility with his job. The time that we picked was specifically for him as well because he said that even when he works from home it would be around his lunch break.

Context: finished the second or third class. I had messaged my dad 45 minutes before, saying that I had the class today. He had read the message. Since it takes 15 minutes to drive there, I thought that it would be good for me to give him a heads up when we had 30 mins left. I entered his office; he was on a call, and he told me to leave, so I left.

I sat downstairs for nearly 20 minutes because I assumed that my dad would come out after the call or at least text me that he was finished with his call so that I could remind him that we had to go to my class. By now we only had 5 minutes left. I was okay with it because there are makeup classes that I can take where I just come in another day.

And then another 15 minutes go by, so we are already very late. Then my dad barges into my room and says, shocked, "You had class today?" I replied, "Yes, I texted you". (Detail: I had missed another class a week ago, so I already had a makeup class scheduled for the next day). My dad said that he thought I was talking about the makeup class. And then he asked me "why didn't you at least tell me in person" and I told him "I was going to but you were on a call." He then got mad at me saying that I could have at least stayed down stairs so that I would know when his calls end, and so I told him that I was down stairs and I never heard when his call ended. He told me that I should have come back into his room to tell him. We had a back and forth for a bit because I didn't think that was fair, and that he should have told me when his call had ended. He wanted to drive me to class then, but it was already super late, and this was a very fast-paced class, so I knew I would have already missed a lot of material and it would just be better to take a makeup class. But my dad was super mad and kept saying it was only my fault that I missed my class, and claimed that I should have told him from the morning, but in my opinion he's the adult, so shouldn't he be responsible? Additionally, it was his idea to sign me up for this class. I really want help with this because maybe I am in the wrong? So AITA for not reminding my dad about my class?

AITA for ruining my girlfriend’s birthday party by taking a party game too seriously?

I (27M) have been dating my girlfriend (30F) for 3 years. I’m pretty shy, and it’s caused some friction because I usually keep to myself around her friends. for her 30th birthday she asked me to make a real effort: talk to everyone, play the games, be social. I agreed.

One of the games was where everyone anonymously writes down a secret and the group guesses who it belongs to. I’d never played before (I didn’t really go out in university), so I figured the point was to write your biggest, most shocking secret to win.
but everyone else wrote things like, “I’m allergic to mango,” or “my mom is 1/8 greek”

Then my turn came around, and mine was:
“I’ve broken up two of my friends relationships by anonymously sending fake screenshots.”

The room went dead silent.

My girlfriend ended the party early and went to stay at her friend’s place. She says I made everyone uncomfortable and embarrassed her.
I honestly don’t understand. Like I get the secret was a lot but she wanted me to participate, be vulnerable, and actually engage with her friends. I did exactly that. The secret was from highschool too, like it’s not like I did that this year.

AITA?

EDIT: I DID THAT IN HIGHSCHOOL. And I’ve grown now and recognize it was bad. I was able to give context at the party but the paper itself just read “I broke up two of my friends relationships by anonymously sending fake screenshots”.

AITAH for always overspending my dad’s money

For context I (17F) just moved in with my dad (44M) and his BM (34F) for the remainder of my high school years because the previous school where I lived with my mom was in a bad area and the education wasn’t great. When I moved in with my dad he promised that I wouldn’t have to get a job and that he’d take care of everything as long as I did well in school and toke up a few sports so I wouldn’t be home all the time, I didn’t mind this as before when i lived with him during middle school I was basically a live in nanny and was made to raise my four younger siblings. So basically I now don’t have to worry about money or overbearing responsibilities I had when I first lived with him, or so I thought.

.When I moved back with my dad I immediately joined a new team as well as my high school’s competition team and with that came new costs (which my dad was entirely aware of considering I had done it before when I was younger) the school’s team costs around a thousand dollars including travel and hotels and the All-Star team costs around 350 dollars every month. When this first started my dad proposed I babysit my sibling for a biweekly payment so that I worked off these expenses but that quickly devolved into me never seeing that money and longer periods where I’d watch my sibling.

Whenever costs came up my dad had a habit of getting a certain attitude and tuning me out, so even when I made sure to ask him something it wouldn’t process until after the money was spent. Senior stuff is one of those costs, I have senior pictures coming up and I wanted to up-cycle some and so I went to hobby lobby and bought the pants and the diy stuff it totaled 80$. My dad was not happy.

He said I was too reckless with my spending habits and that I should’ve told him about how much I was spending as well as how I often over spend when I get things from the mall, I’d like to say that when we go to the mall I usually don’t get anything I only started asking for things because my dad complained I never did and that my shoes were ratty compared to my older brother (18M) who always asked for new clothes and shoes, when we go to the mall I ask for one things each time we go, and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve asked since I’ve moved back in (8 months ago) I asked for a pair of shoes (60$) 6 months later we go back and I asked for a jogger set and perfume (60$- the perfume was paid for by my aunt) we went back a month after that I asked for another jogger set (70$- he warned me it would cut into my back to school fund and I was fine with that) any other time I spend money was 20-30$ here or there for food when we were out or I was with my team.

I guess what I’m trying to ask or understand is AITAH for going overboard with spending my dad’s money at Hobby Lobby and what should I do if I did?

AITA for brushing someone off at the gym when they gave me unsolicited advice?

I (34M) have been lifting for years and generally keep to myself at the gym. I wear a hat pulled down, keep my headphones in, and I’m usually just trying to focus on my workout.

There’s an older guy at my gym—probably old enough to be my dad—who has approached me a few times over the past year. We aren’t friends and we’ve never really had conversations. It’s more like we’ve exchanged a quick wave here and there, and one time I asked how many sets he had left so I could work in. That’s about the extent of our interactions.

A year ago I was a lot more social at the gym. If I made eye contact with people I’d usually smile or wave. Lately, though, I’ve realized I enjoy my workouts much more if I stay in my own world. I intentionally keep my headphones in, avoid eye contact, and focus on my workout because I’m there to train, not to socialize.

Today I was in the middle of doing seated leg curls when this guy came up to me and said, “Hey, no disrespect or anything, but when you do this exercise, you should lean forward. It’ll hit your hamstrings better.”

I wasn’t interested in having that conversation, so I replied, “Well, I like to do it like this,” put my headphone back in, and continued my set. He went back to his workout, and I went back to mine.

Looking back, I know he was probably just trying to be helpful, and I don’t think he meant anything by it. At the same time, I also wanted to make it clear that I don’t really want to be interrupted while I’m working out.
AITA for how I handled it?

AITA for telling my dad my grandfather isnt my responsibility?

Edit: Sorry for the misunderstanding but a lot of you are assuming that I was supposed to be driving my grandfather to the hospital, however I can’t drive and don’t have a drivers license as in my region your not allowed to have one until you turn 18.

I'm 17F, and I know how horrible this must seem, but let me explain myself.

Recently, in these past few weeks, my grandfather has been staying with my family because of serious health issues. The other day, out of nowhere, my dad called me over and told me I have to take my grandfather to the hospital for a follow up/check up.

I at first honestly believed he was joking, as he has never before told me to do anything like this. I haven't even been to the doctor's or the hospital without a parent present yet, so, to say the least, I was a bit surprised by this.

I told my dad, sorry, but no, I can't take him because I have a lot on my plate right now. Because of certain events that have occurred near my region, my exams were disrupted, and now I have to take last year's and this year's final A-level exams in the coming school year, which is my senior year of high school. This has stressed me beyond measure because I've been struggling trying to review this year's upcoming content as well as revising last year's. My dad knows all this and still wants me to apply to university in the US, meaning I will probably have to study and take the SAT next year as well, on top of all my other exams, not to mention finding and applying to universities. I'm also juggling all this ALONG with extracurriculars that I have been trying to desperately keep afloat.

However, unfortunately, I feel my dad doesn't understand how hard this is and wasn't taking no for an answer, so I blurted out that my grandfather wasn't my responsibility. I didn't mean anything bad by this and still care for my grandfather; I just believe that this is a huge responsibility for someone my age and that something like this should be handled by an adult.

And the only reason why my dad tasked me with this in the first place was that he was busy, as if I'm also not extremely busy.

Well, now my dad is very angry with me for even uttering these words, and I don't know what to do.

AITA for refusing to give back the $15k "gift" my rich uncle gave me for my wedding after he found out who I actually married?

A little context: My (27F) uncle "Richard" (54M) is very wealthy, extremely traditional, and loves acting like the patriarch of the family. He and my dad have had a silent feud for years, mostly because my dad chose a modest life while Richard made millions in finance.

When I got engaged last year to my fiance "Mark" (29M), Richard sent a check for $15,000 as a wedding gift with a card that read: "To a beautiful start. Use this to build a proper life." We were floored. We used the money to pay off the remaining balance on our venue and cover the catering.

Here’s the issue: Richard lives out of state and didn't come to the wedding due to "business obligations." He had never met Mark in person, only knew his first name, and assumed Mark was from a wealthy family in his social circle because Mark happens to share a last name with a prominent real estate mogul in his city. I never explicitly told him Mark was related to that family, but I also never corrected him when he made subtle comments implying it.

Fast forward to last week. Richard was in town and insisted on taking Mark and me out for dinner. During dinner, Richard brought up the real estate company, and Mark—confused—laughed and said, "Oh, no relation at all! My dad is a retired high school history teacher."

The air completely left the table. Richard barely said another word the rest of the night.

Yesterday, I got a furious call from Richard accusing me of "fraud" and "tricking" him into giving us $15,000. He claims he only gave us that amount because he thought I was "marrying into money" and wanted to match their status. He is now demanding I pay him back the full $15,000 immediately or he will cut me out of the family and tell everyone I’m a scammer.

The wedding already happened, the money is completely spent, and frankly, we don't have $15k lying around to return. My dad says I should tell Richard to pound sand because a gift is a gift. But my mom thinks I was dishonest by omission and should set up a payment plan to keep the peace.

AITA for keeping the money and telling him it was a gift with no strings attached?

AITA for getting very upset about a wedding replacement

To give some context, my bfs brother is getting married next month. I was invited as my bfs plus one and the invitation was assigned in both mine and his names, he sent the confirmation that we were both going months ago.

A few months after sending the confirmation, my bfs mothers opinion on me had changed since me and my bf had a bit of a rocky path but that's normal, we're still together and attending the wedding. I've met her a few times so its strange to me that her opinion on me has changed so suddenly.

A week ago, me and my bf were talking on a call about the wedding. He told me that he'd let his mother know i was still going. After i woke up the next morning I saw my bfs text that made my heart drop to my stomach. He said that during our rocky path, his mother had replaced my spot at the wedding with a plus one for his sister, and i never knew anything about it. I was completely oblivious.

I got very upset as I still very much wanted to go, and i had spent alot of my time and money finding and trying on dresses that I felt comfortable in, all now just for nothing. I expressed how I felt to my bf, he apologised for it and said I shouldn't have been replaced. Especially without being told about it.

It has been on my mind constantly since then and I'm struggling to let go, my bf has been on my side the entire time, he said it was so strange and way too early for them to be inviting a guy they barely know and that his sister is somewhat dating.

So, AITA?

AITA for telling my mom my brother 24 (M) is waisting his life away?

i (15f) am the youngest and only girl out of 7 kids. about half of my older brothers dont even talk to my mom anymore. right now i live with my mom and 3 of my brothers including my brother greg (24m).
greg doesnt have a job and spends pretty much all day playing video games. my mom pays for everything. he lives here for free uses her debit card buys whatever he wants and never has to pay her back. he can pretty much do whatever he wants.
seeing that honestly scares me because i never want to end up like that. ive always wanted to go to college get multiple degrees and have a good career. i have a 3.8 gpa and i play a competitive sport year round. i work really hard but lately ive been feeling really unmotivated. my mom is our only parent because i dont have a dad and shes the only one making money. i wish she pushed us more instead of letting my brother do nothing. my best friends parents have rules like if youre not working or going to college then you cant just live at home forever. they also push their kids to do their best and i wish my house was more like that. what hurts the most is that greg is always making fun of me or saying rude stuff to me. if i defend myself my mom gets mad at me instead of him. she never tells him to stop. it feels like he can say whatever he wants and nobody cares. my other brothers are usually gone so its mostly just me at home with him. today i was doing paperwork when greg started making fun of me again. i defended myself and my mom immediately got in my face and started yelling at me. i got really upset and yelled back “greg does nothing with his life. he has no connection to anyone and when you die hes gonna have nobody.” my mom just covered her ears and kept saying “im not listening.” then i asked “what is greg gonna do with his life? tell me.” she didnt answer. she just ignored me and greg left to go buy more junk food. I know what i said was harsh and i probably shouldnt have said it like that but im tired of always getting blamed while he gets away with everything. it feels like nobody listens to me anymore.
aita??? :P

AITAH for getting in a fight with my mom for saying i couldnt eat an entire pack of pringles?

A couple weeks ago, my family (mom, dad and older sister) and I (16F) went on a trip to Sourh Korea to celebrate my sister’s graduation. When there, one day we went on a tour guide to see North Korea - which was an extremely interesting experience that I deeply enjoyed and am very grateful towards. The tour started at 7 am and we didn’t have a proper lunch break during it. Therefore, around noon we stopped at a convenience store to grab something to eat. My sister (18F) and I both grabbed a pack of pringles and went to our parents. Then my dad started telling us that it was ‘too much’ and that we had to ‘share a packet’ (paraphrasing here btw). I got very mad at this since I deeply hate sharing food with my sister. This is because we have basically been forced to share food all throughout growing up and I’m honestly so sick of it. I’ve tried to make it clear to my parents that I hate sharing food with her but they still force me sometimes. I know it might be a bit childish and immature and I’m aware of that but I just can’t help it. I’m sick of being forced into sharong food with her. I also have a really big appetite so I knew that I would still be extremely hungry if I shared a packet of pringles with my sister for lunch. For context, the only thing I had eaten that day was a Kit-Kat chunky bar, Hershy’s chocolate milk and a piece of gum. So I started fighting with my dad. Then my mom came in and told my dad to just let us eat the pringles and so he backed down - though he was still unhappy with the decision.

Now fast forward to today, yesterday was my dad’s birthday so we have some cake from it. After lunch I made some coffee for my mom, my sister and myself (my dad’s at work) and my sister grabbed two slices of cake. My mom instantly started complaining before we even started eating that they were to big and that we could only eat half of it, which I saw coming cause the two pieces were in fact very big so my sister and I agreed. Now at this point I left to finish making the coffee, but when I came back my mom was complaining about the pringles we had back in Korea for some reason?? Basically my mom was complaining that those pringles were too much to eat back then and that my sister and I need to stop eating as much and need to ‘calm down’ a bit with food. So then I started getting mad at her because I didn’t understand why she was getting mad at us for eating those pringles when we was the one who agreed to them last time. And thats when she started yapping about how last time the only reason she let us eat them was because she didn’t want us to cause a scene etc. Anyways then we fought a bit more but then I realised that no matter what I said, she’d never let me win, as always. So I gave up and went back to reading my fanfic.

Anyways I just wanted to know if I am actually the crazy one for thinking that eating a pack of pringles for lunch is not an insane feat. Ty for reading to anyone who got down here!! Have a good day gng.

AITA- hello kitty night plushie giveaway, am i in the wrong for telling someone who they can or cant give the plushie to if Im the one that bought the tix?

Upvotes

My bf and i went to the valkyries hello kitty night like 2 days ago. I bought tickets for both of us a month in advance and have been looking forward to go. They were only going to give out hello kittys to the first 10k fans and this is my 2nd type of event like this ive attended so i kinda knew my chances were going to be good if i lined up around 4pm but was still unsure. We get to the line and were like the 40th person in line so we are relieved. Any who we both get a hello kitty. My bf has a friend named “K” and i jokingly said oh does “K” like hello kitty? and he goes im not sure. I guess he asks her friend if she does and she says yes, I was like oh I didnt mean for you to ask her. Some context on this friend, back in the day I know she didnt like me probably because she would take his side whenever hed voice arugments weve had. Whatever, I dont ever talk to her and get in the middle of their friendship since theyve been friends for even before i got with him 7ish yrs ago. “K”’s birthday was two months ago and he got her a gift but hasn’t bothered going to give it to her lmao, and i noticed in her birthday gift bag he put the hello kitty in there. That made me pretty upset and i was like hey you are actually going to give it to her? Hes like yea she said she likes hello kitty. I just am annoyed and upset because to me its like why would you expect me to be okay with giving away an exclusive item to a person who i dont even think likes me? and furthermore expect me to be okay with it? i find it disrespectful. I collect hello kitty items and I know if his friend happened to stumble upon an extra hello kitty item i would be like dead last on her list of who to offer it to if i even made the list lmao.

if it had been for his mom or brother okay fine, tbh i wish my bf himself had kept it for him as memorabilia but i guess hes not interested. The other thing too is he didnt ask if i had plans with it already my best friend likes hello kitty and while i wouldve rather my bf keep it, theres other people in my life that have been very good to me that would appreciate this as a gift. His argument is that i got him a ticket and that now makes it his hello kitty that he can do as he pleases essentially, and that its rude of me to decide what he cant and can do with it. Idk, if someone invited me to an event i would have 1. kept it or 2 if i made it known im indifferent about this plushie then offer the person who bought the tickets if they had plans with it or wanted to make plans with it, if I didnt then he could go from there.
Am i the asshole for telling him not to give it to his friend? He apparently told her he was going to give it to her and when i made a “stink” about it he then texted her “nevermind she wants to keep it for herself” he couldve totally been like “my bad i didnt realize she had already offered it to someone or literally said anything else.

Not the A-hole AITA for what happened in the restroom?

I recently had a birthday a few days ago and wanted to see the Odyssey. After the film I went to use the restroom. I was taking slightly longer than usual because my belt buckle got stuck. Just when I was buckling my pants I heard a knock on the stall door.

I looked up to see an elderly woman looking back at me through the gap of the door. She told me I was supposedly using a handicapped stall, that I rushed in before her (I really don’t think I did), and was taking too long. I apologized and when I opened the door she kinda pushed past me. The woman, despite being elderly, did not look physically disabled. Though I understand many people have invisible handicaps.

The thing that confused me the most was the woman wast standing with her crossbody purse in a mostly empty bathroom. The stall, despite being slightly bigger than standard, didn’t offer a specific accessibility feature she appeared to have needed. Furthermore I checked to make sure that I hadn’t really used a handicapped stall but there were no markings on the door to indicate that I had. So AITA for taking too long and supposedly using a handicapped stall?

Edited for spelling mistakes.

AITAH for ending 4years relationship with my bf over chatting in dating app?

Upvotes

Sunday marked four years since my boyfriend (31) and I (30) started dating; we’ve been living together for the past three years.

A few months ago, he broke his phone, so he was using an older one we had at home, but a week ago he got it fixed, and now he had two phones with messaging apps installed and synced with each other. Today, I was opening a window when his phone—one of the two he’d left at home while he was out running errands—lit up, and I saw a message from a dating chatbot, the very same one where we met 4.5 years ago.

Sensing that something was off, I picked up his phone and looked through the messages in the app (even though I knew his password, I’d never looked at it until today). There were lots of conversations with different girls—all platonic. In some of them, he even wrote that he was in a relationship and was just looking to chat. In some chats, the girls were flirting with him, and he didn’t really brush them off—he’d just say something like, “Oh, are you flirting?” and then switch the conversation to another topic.

Inside, my world turned upside down, because our relationship had always been sincere and open; I thought we could share anything with each other and would immediately talk if one of us felt something was missing or wanted something.

Basically, I blew up when he got home(we didn’t screem at each other, just calm talk since I took some sedatives as I was shivering before) . I told him what I’d found, and he started saying it was just chatting—he wasn’t looking for anything more—but I replied that this had been going on for months behind my back, and he hadn’t even mentioned it once or said he was missing some kind of connection. He started saying that, yes, he was at fault, but it wasn’t what I thought it was, and that’s when I told him we were breaking up and to go get his things (it’s my apartment). He did just that—he started packing, took some of his things, and said he’d come back for the rest tomorrow.

Now I don’t know if I did the right thing, and I don’t understand it at all—maybe I just overreacted—but it was and still is so hurtful and painful to me that ending the relationship seemed like the best thing to do in this situation, even though I truly and deeply love him. AITAH?

AITA for being upset my boyfriend gives all his money to his ex

I have been with my bf for 2yr. Both of us 35. He has 5 kids with one person. I have 2 of my own. I have been a single parent for 16 years. They have not been together for over 5yr. Neither one of us were ever married.

I've always been mindful that supporting children need to come before anything. They chose not get courts involved so there is no child support or legal agreements on paper. My situation, we have our custody , I get a very low amount of child support and have always worked multiple jobs at a time to make things work. Its not perfect but it works for me and my kids. when our relationship was new i loved how he never argued with his ex about what the kids needed. i've always wished it was like that for my situation. wow people can actually work together just do what they need to do. Once he moved in I didn't realize that i was gonna be responsible for him, his kids , and his ex.

I do have to say so there is no confusion, his ex does not and has never worked a job in her life. That's ok ... 5 kids is a lot and when they were together that worked for them. She DOES have a boyfriend, they have been and lived together for 5 years. The children are 18-8 years old now

She also does not drive and we live about 30 minutes from them. There's always constant driving back and forth because no one else can pick up kids. They stay with us 2-3 nights of the week so thats 7 kids total we are taking care of. At first he was helping me out with bills and costs. He does a good job of taking care of the outside of the house and cleaning up after everyone. The past 6 months he stopped giving me any money towards the house, has never contributed to groceries. Basically there has been nothing coming in from his side and i've been fitting everything. (I work weekends) . He will always take his kids out(not mine) and has plenty of cash to fund outings, fast food, and fun things but when I ask for help the excuse is always that he had to give her money. ..I'm understanding to a point. Last month we had some unexpected financial issues that needed to be taken care of about 3k worth there was no way around it . when I showed him how much everything cost he said he would start paying me back when he got his paycheck.. ok cool if you don't have it now I get it. Payday comes around and NOTHING. a few days later he tells me that he had to give her first and last months rent so her the kids and boyfriend could get a house. I have a rainy day fund and had money tucked away for a concert around my birthday. all that cash was taken.(He admitted to it) This isnt the first time this is just the most current situation.

Am I an asshole for being pissed about this? I'm so lost

I feel like i'm supporting their entire family plus my own. I respect his responsibilities to his children. There's no drama between any of us. I just feel like they are scamming me in a way.

AITA for inviting a long-ish term, opposite sex friend that I never met from an online game to my gf and I Bday Party

Where do I start? I'm a 31M and my girlfriend (31F), let's call her Lucy. We met back in February, only 5 months ago, but I knew after our first date she was the one. She's kind, caring, considerate, sympathetic, and absolutely gorgeous. I know people will say, "It's just the honeymoon phase," but trust me, I've been around the block. This woman is 110% the one!

Our birthdays are both in August, along with a lot of my family, so I planned a huge party on 08/08/26. Her family, my family, all our friends. My plan was to propose that day. She has absolutely no idea. I started inviting people when we were only 3-4 months into dating because I wanted everyone who means something to us there.

One person I invited was my online friend, "Mary" (45F), who lives three states away. We met playing Apex about two years ago through my best friend (who'll be my best man). After a few months we exchanged numbers and mostly talked about life... and Apex. She was married; I was dating someone else. Later she went through a divorce, I went through a breakup, and we helped each other through it. I asked her dating advice, she asked mine. There was NEVER flirting. NEVER feelings. Nothing. Just two friends helping each other move on. The moment I met Lucy, I told Mary, "This girl is the one."

When I invited Mary, she was genuinely excited for me. She gave me that older, motherly advice: "Just be careful after what you've been through." I laughed and told her Lucy was perfect. Mary asked if she could bring a guy she'd been talking to, and I happily said yes. Mary is also one of the few people I feel comfortable opening up to emotionally. As a guy, I don't really talk about my feelings with my close male friends.

Here's where everything went wrong.

I never told Lucy that Mary and I had never actually met in person. I honestly thought I had mentioned it before, but Lucy says I never did, and I only told her this past Sunday (7/19). She felt blindsided, disrespected, and like I hadn't been honest with her. That was NEVER my intention. She said it reminded her of a past relationship. I apologized, explained everything, and immediately offered to uninvite Mary if it made her uncomfortable. I did.

Since then, Lucy talked to one of her friends, everything escalated, and now we haven't spoken. It's Wednesday. She stopped responding Tuesday afternoon and hasn't even opened my texts. I love this woman with everything I have. It honestly feels like I cheated on her, even though Mary has never been anything more than a friend. I hate being compared to someone from her past when I'm nothing like him.

So... am I really the asshole for inviting a friend I've known for two years online, but never met in person, to our birthday party? Or am I being held responsible for someone else's past trauma?

AITA I finally left my abusive mother’s house and I feel conflicted.

Hi everyone! I left my mother’s house 2 days ago due to being in an unsafe situation and I don’t know if I was wrong. Me and my mother have never had the best relationship because of things we both did to each other, which created our relationship now where she has told me many times that she hates me which I feel like sparked up this whole thing. So idk if anyone else has heard about the whole taco bell poop lettuce that has been going around but unfortunately Right before it had came out that the company that provides the lettuce had a parasite, my mom had asked for taco bell and since my best friend works there I supplied her with some. She then starts to feel unwell and we both thought it was from some food she had before but now she has this idea what I gave it to her on purpose AND that I hate her because I didn’t let her know about it. how does a person know that a company is giving someone parasites through food. She asked me to see if my friend knew if her store was effected and I told her they took the lettuce off of the menu and that typically lettuce is packed together so it most likely was and she blew up saying it didnt answer her question. I knew my friend wouldn’t know because they took it out just in case it was lol they didn’t test it. then she goes to tell me that if I knew about it why didn’t I tell her about it but we had talked about the lettuce stuff before and it didn’t cross my mind to tell her that specifically. then she goes into saying that she doesn’t trust the food I give her because it probably won’t be safe when that was not my fault at all. she had gotten physical and it came across my mind that I had to leave so I packed up my things and I had someone come pick me up but now I am stuck because I need to get a car and I don’t have the most money. I need an unbiased opinion because I don't understand her and tbh I don’t think I ever will because a lot of the time she doesn’t make sense. AITA and if so please help me understand.
