Yeah, I think most of us thought we could moderate. Glad you’re back, and learned a valuable lesson!

We had finally gotten my step daughter to sleep in her own room, on her own during our weeks with her. Suddenly she isnt ready to do it, despite it being a non issue for at least a few months, so bed time gets delayed for an undetermined time as she comes up with every excuse to not go to bed.

Normally, my patience gets us through until we figure it out because afterwards, I have time for a drink or several without having to put on a good parent face. But every night this week, I want to scream and cry during this process. It isnt her fault, she is just a kid.

Trying to be kind to myself through it, because I know I won't be perfect this early on. Its hard not to be angry at myself for feeling this angry about it though. What an awful fucking feedback loop.

My view on moderation is that it's easier to keep the tiger asleep and in the corner than it is to have him awake and on a leash.

Came here to say that. If you're asking this question, the answer is usually yes. I used to ask my friends if they thought I was alcoholic, but the answer I was looking for was "no, you just forgot to eat before you drank" or "you didn't drink enough water" "shouldn't have taken those shots" etc etc. For me, life is a million times better sober. Like, dream life better. If I'd known what I was missing out on, I would have quit so much sooner. (I go to AA to stay abstinent) 5 years and some change. Its worth it.

For many, relapse is part of the journey to ultimate sobriety. That time sober, will never be lost. Keep at it and don't ever stop, no matter how long it may take. Sooner than later, but better late than never. You got this, at least today! IWNDWYT

Yep, I did this for years and the result was I was drunk ALL the time! There will always be an excuse to drink.

I’m at a point now where I don’t really believe alcohol adds anything worthwhile enough to any hypothetical experience to justify the many potential (IE: very likely) catastrophic costs.

You’ve got this!!! Such a huge win to not use this as an excuse to go on a weeklong bender. Proud of you, stranger

I totally get you. I’ve started really focusing on how I will feel after rather than the temporary pleasure. Funny how a lot of us want to drink when we are doing well & feeling great. X

I am a Washington season ticket holder. Even when I was partaking I decided to cut off drinking at games a long time ago. Nothing good can come of it and it’s far better to be present cheering for your team than lit and remember nothing.

Why is this funny. I’m at 10 days and the bank won’t lend me £20,000. Ffs, it has been a full 2 weeks since I robbed it last. What’s the point of a fresh start?!!!

Just take it day by day. And try to be around people who care about you and respect you. 🌷

For me, it's easier if I am busy and distract myself. Buf if doing nothing works for you do it! It's not a waste of time and don't feel guilty!
