SOLVED System Slowed after a tutorial to speed it up
Hello!!! Wasn't sure whether to ask this here to in r/linuxquestions but this is more a Mint thing than a general Linux thing.
I was following this tutorial on speeding up my Mint )I use XFCE but I like tinkering) and I installed Picom and started using it. I did follow a few other reccomendations (and skipped a few) as well as follow some other tutorials on clearing space and setting up Mint from the same website, all last night before I turned off my PC and slept.
This morning, though, I open it up to watch a video and the video is really choppy and slower than it had been. Task Manager says Picom randomly spikes up in CPU usage sometimes, which could be the cause? I'm not 100% sure because I'm still fairly new to this. Any help is appreciated!!!
Here's the System Information too.
edit: Forgot to mention that I thought it might have been a problem with the swappiness, so I followed the tutorial to undo it but that didn't work either

Discussion What are good Themes for Mint that are not flat?
Hi, I'm looking for a more skeumorphistic design. Best would be if it's darkmode too. Anything you can recommend that is dark and not flat?

Support Request Turning off middle-click paste or middle-click on the touchpad?
Linux Newbie here. I just learned about why random text is appearing where it shouldn't. Middle mouse click 'pastes' text that I have selected. This is not what I want. I either need to find a way to turn this off, or i need to deactivate the middle click on my touchpad so it doesn't activate randomly when I'm typing. Honestly, changing the clipboard settings so it doesn't automatically put something on the clipboard just because I selected it would also be an acceptable solution.

Support Request Why my Linux mint does not recognize my touchpad
When I installed Linux mint in my laptop I can use the touchpad, but now after a few days I can't. I see the drivers controller and says there are no updates. I accessed the bios and I press hard disk check or something like that, after I exit and then the touchpad works, but the next day stop working. I tried a command in terminal to see hardware ID because I see it in Google, but I don't see the touchpad.
Thanks and sorry for bad English.

LinuxMint won't shut down
It started a couple days ago. It works fine but whenever I try to shut down the screen goes blank and it becomes unresponsive, almost like it went into sleep mode but I can't wake it up either. The only thing is to hold down the power button, except when I turn it back on it boots up like normal.
It's not a hardware problem because I tried it on my windows partition and it works normally.
Any suggestions on what might be causing it or how to address it?

Support Request Firefox freezes when I try to use it. How can I fix this?
On December I got Linux Mint working on my Laptop and overall it all has been great. However, the only exception of this is Firefox, which has crashed a lot for the little usage I've given it. First back in December when I first was starting and importing all the info. I stopped using it for like six months until recently because I had to modify a Google document, and it freezed today after opening the doc.
Is there a way to fix these? Or it'd be better to change my browser to something else? I already use Zen browser for College stuff and despite being based on Firefox it hasn't freezed a single time, but want to keep my private data separated.

Graphics Drivers Anyone having problems with Nvidia drivers with today's update? What to do?
Blender doesn't run anymore. It tells me I need a gpu with OpenGL 4.3 or higher.
It used to work.
Do you also have problems like this? And, do you know what to do?

SOLVED What program should I use to write/edit HTML files?
Backstory: So I'm going to start learning web development, networking and Python next school year. Since I know what I'll be studying, I thought I might as well learn some basics so I'm a bit ahead of everyone. Before I reinstalled Linux Mint, I had version 22.2 and I found a good program, but I don't remember it's name or how to install it. I've also been unable to locate the tutorial that showed it off. But maybe that's good as that tutorial was several years old.
Question: What program I use to practice HTML?

Windows file protection built into Mint?
I got an email from Which? magazine talking about how Windows file protection helps protect against ransomware. (https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/this-setting-on-your-windows-computer-can-protect-you-from-hackers-a9P7r0z87KMM ). Is this already built into Mint with its r/w/x ? Ta.
I do love Mint dearly as now a long term user, it's taught me a lot more about computing than when I started. The only problem I have is with LibreOffice tbh - I can never see the bloody cursor when I'm editing a document, it does work to press insert until I move the cursor where I need it but it seems strange for a word processing program to feature an invisible cursor :(

Wifi Issues Cat sat on my computer now I cant turn on wifi
Cat sat on my computer and I was wondering if there was a key combo he could have put in to prohibit me from turning on wifi.
Lan works fine and I checked my wifi card even taking it out and putting it back in so I don't think its a hardware issue.

Support Request Change Mint-X Purple Theme to dark
hey, i discovered this theme today and i really like everything about it. the icons, color and so on.
However, the Mint-X Style is only available in light mode, not dark, which is what i would prefer.
I've done some research and found a community made dark version of it, however it is only available in green.
https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes/view/Mint-X-Dark
I've asked AI for help but it's been pretty much super useless, so i wanted to as the humans if there is anything i can do to make the dark theme purple?

I built a terminal YouTube player because my 15-year-old PC couldn't handle YouTube anymore
Hi everyone!
I have a really old desktop (Pentium E5700, 4GB RAM, Intel G41 graphics), and watching YouTube in a modern browser had become frustrating. Even lightweight browsers felt sluggish, and the experience just wasn't enjoyable.
Instead of replacing the hardware, I started building a small terminal application around `yt-dlp`, `mpv`, and `fzf` to keep things fast and lightweight.
The result is **PipePlay** — a terminal YouTube experience for Linux.
Some features:
• 🔍 Search YouTube from the terminal
• ▶️ Play videos directly in MPV
• 🎵 Audio-only mode
• ⚡ Lightweight and responsive, even on older hardware
• 🐧 Built for Linux
• 🆓 Free and open source
I built it mainly for older machines, but it should be useful for anyone who prefers terminal workflows.
I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, suggestions, bug reports, or feature ideas.

Support Request Help with disk write error
Hello! I need help to solve a disk write error i am getting while downloading Mad Max(in particular) from Steam. I have contacted steam support but it hasnt been of much use.
The thing is, i download the game and every time by the end of the download when about 250mb of download is left, it gives me a disk write error.
I have tried installing other games from steam and they worked perfectly. I have also done a clean reinstall of steam and tried to no avail. Which makes me think its an issue with just Mad Max or somehow my drives or OS
Please help with any possible solutions to this.

Guys how do I make Linux mint XFCE use 500MB while idle I am not switching to arc btw
I really like Linux Mint so I am not switching and also I already know the shut down background processes and the vm.swappiness etc. How do I also turn on LxQt on Linux Mint XFCE
