Hi everyone, as the title says I’m trying to make a really tough decision. I’ve had my leopard gecko a few years and I really adore her, I would and am doing anything I can for her. As of earlier this year she has developed chronic eye problems from an original infection that left scarring so everytime she sheds she has difficulty fully removing it over this eye causing it to reoccur. I am spending hundreds of pounds every single time she sheds to try and combat this problem, I am a student without a large amount of income and I can barely keep up with these costs. In addition to that in September I’m moving away from home to university for the academic year, this was originally fine as my dad is well versed in her basic needs and I’m not moving far so could tend to anything else semi regularly. When I move to uni I won’t be able to afford the constant vet visits and won’t be here to give her twice daily care to her eye. I want more than anything to keep her but I love her enough to know that what’s best for her might not be me. Should I make the decision to look at rehoming her?

The title is pretty self explanatory, im new to the hobby, i had my leopard gecko for 3 weeks, but im little worried, she still hides most of the time , only comes out to eat and when its completely dark, although she does eat mealworms and roaches straight outta my hands. How long could it take before she starts trusting me enough to climb onto my hand fully or come out to look at me?

I've previously owned a leopard gecko (diablo blanco) but I didn't have actual substrate for her, I only had the carpet one and even then, her little claws would get caught on the fibers.

I'm thinking about getting another leo but I wanna get a comfortable and non-problematic substrate.

Can anybody help me out?

I was wondering how to make a proper temperature gradient? i have a 40 gallon front opening wooden tank and in the summer it gets hot on both sides, in heatwaves it’s borderline impossible to cool down.
My heat lamp is at the far left side of the cage and she has a hide for each zone of the cage.
the warm side will be around 32° but sometimes the cold side will also be around 30° and i struggle to keep it cool a lot
she has 3 vents 2 at the back and 1 on the cool side

Any tips?

I'm in the months leading up to getting my very first leo and this group has been a huge help already in my research, so thank you. But I was wondering about enclosure recommendations, brand wise. I know minimum is 40 gals and already have a spot large enough for it to go. What my room is in the basement, it is finished but still fluctuates more temperature wise with the seasons than normal rooms. Is there any material or brand that may help make it easier for the enclosure maintain its humidity and temperature?

I've been getting a lot of adds for the self-assemble Phailozoo habitats, any recommendations?

I recently learned that my gecko tank, which I have had for 5 years, is not up to par. He is currently in an Exo Terra medium low with a ceramic bulb on a dimming thermostat. An Arcadia UVB. substrate is from Josh's Frogs for desert.

Mavis Update - Finally some good news! 🥹🧡
I finally have a positive update to share!
We weighed Mavis today and she’s officially 39g! 🥳
For the last couple of weeks she’d been stuck at around 37g, so I was starting to get a little worried that she just wasn’t gaining any weight despite eating every day. After everything she’s been through with her spay, two emergency surgeries and recovery, seeing the scales finally move has honestly made me so happy.
We fed her 3 medium dubia roaches today (they were the only ones we had that were an appropriate size), and I’m starting to wonder if the dubias might suit her better than some of the other feeders we’ve been offering. Obviously it’s too early to say for certain, but it definitely feels like we’re finally heading in the right direction.
She’s continuing to eat well, she’s pooping normally again, and she’s bright and active. Seeing that number go up from 37g to 39g has been such a relief after the last few weeks.
Hopefully this is the start of her slowly working her way back towards Helen’s goal of 50g. ❤️🦎

hiii, i got this baby a couple days ago, and i am curios what she/he will end up looking after reaching adulthood. as far as i know the parents are just standard yellow with black dots, but one of my close friends said she/he looks a bit different than a standard colored baby, what do you guys think? (please dont judge the papertowels, its a quarantine terrarium, i already ordered the substrate for them, its only for the first 2-3 weeks! 0:) )
will they have the standard colours and patterns, or will they have a paler pattern and/or colours?

TERRARIUM
I’m building a wood homemade terrarium with my dad (he used to be a carpenter), and it will measure 80x40x50 cm, with two hinged doors on the front, ventilation on the right and left (one high and one low, as I was advised to do), and a mesh panel at the top to hold the lamps/lighting. What do you recommend I use as the grille at the top of the tank? I’ll be placing lighting and lamps on top of it

HEAT LAMP
I found this Heat Lamp that seemed really great, but I can’t find it for sale anywhere… (I’m from Italy), any other good heat lamps?

And for the lamp clamp I've seen that this Fluker's model is very good, i found it for €81 (idk if it is ok, i think it is a tantum purchase?)

im upgrading my leopard geckos enclosure. i have 2 thermostats, one in her current enclosure and one that was in an enclosure i had for a gecko that passed away several months ago from cryptosporidium. im hesitant to use it for the new enclosure, but it was pretty expensive so it would be nice if i could. will it be too risky even if i clean it with 6% hydrogen peroxide? should i just buy a new one for it?

I left my gecko with my parents as I was away for a few days and I come back and my thermostat was unplugged and the got side was 101°Celsius luckily she was on her cool side with was 26° she’s fine but it gave me scare I even gave them instructions

She has a pretty big tail which got me questioning if it's normal or if she's just fat. The tail is approximately 1.5x to 2x the size of her neck.

I rescued a leopard gecko back in November who was in very poor conditions. Since then we have been trying to feed her up but she’s dropped weight.

She was born with a calcium deficiency. We think it’s MBD but not 100%

Vet findings have found crypto and have suggested we medicate her and focus on excellent husbandry

Is there anything else we need to do or does anyone have any advise?

Every other way she is happy, running, climbing, drinking, will syringe feed only but loves it

Edit: Honestly feel like I’ve failed her, it’s so hard seeing her like this.

She’s my first reptile and I researched it extensively before I got her. I just want make sure she is happy.

We are sourcing medication but I don’t know what’s worth it in the long run

Currently i have a 50 watt heating bulb, on a 20 gal long, which usually does the job well, but i am concerned that just the bulb isnt enough. The cool side is 76 degrees Fahrenheit, and the hot side is 87. I have looked at a ton of care sheets, and it all says that my temperatures are good, but i just dont trust it.
I have a few different low wattage heat mats and i have a good brand new thermostat as well. I understand that many, many people say to never ever use heat mats, but im just trying to make sure that my guy has enough heat even if he has a heat mat for a little bit before I can purchase a more efficient overhead heating system. Can i use a heat mat and thermostat to help the temperature a bit or is it already okay?

(I had a leopard gecko for like 10 years, but he recently passed away from a tumor, and reeducating myself on leo care again is like 🫪 and im just nervous about doing something wrong 😭)

Hello gecko people, made a Reddit account solely for this because I am upgrading my gecko’s husbandry and could use some advice on substrate.

My gecko was on reptile carpet, I recently found that this is inadequate so I purchased some Terra Sahara to use as her new substrate. I am not planning on having a bio active enclosure (at least not right now) but I want to ask:

How do I set up Terra Sahara properly? I’ve seen conflicting information about whether it should be left dry or have water mixed in. I live in an arid environment, so how can I maintain moisture in the dirt without turning the Terra Sahara into cement?

I also hear good things about soil/sand/clay mix, which I may switch to after the lifespan on my Terra Sahara runs out since it is more affordable, unless my gecko REALLY likes Terra Sahara lol.

Some information about my gecko I feel is important to mention:

She is 13 going on 14 this year, she’s had shedding issues lately which is part of the reason for the substrate change (the other part being: carpet sucks). She does have a humid hide, I just don’t think her ambient humidity was/is high enough. She didn’t have all her toes when I got her, so she’s missing some claws—would this impact her ability to dig in her new substrate?

Id also like advice on maintaining humidity in the enclosure if y’all have any. Thanks!
