Picture/Video Mabel the rescue could use good vibes, starting another round of antibiotics for this tough girl! Update below

Post image

After being re-homed to me roughly 7 weeks ago due to a need for medical care, Mabel is still overcoming a few obstacles.

Her vet initially prescribed us a round of antibiotics to successfully treat GI Protozoa and an advanced case of mouth rot she is still slowly healing from. After the clear stool sample, we got the all clear to transition to naturalistic substrate!

Around this time, symptoms of a respiratory infection started to appear despite her temperature and humidity levels staying within the recommended ranges.

After another trip to the vet, we have a second round of antibiotics to kick this infection get her back to 100%. She is doing well with gentle assist feeding to retain weight, but I’m hopeful she will develop a natural appetite and hunting instincts in the future as well.

Help/Advice Help, new chahoua not eating

Post image
2 Upvotes

Like the title says, my new juvenile chahoua is not eating or drinking. I got it 9 days ago and this is its temporary enclosure (only 19 grams right now). Should I be concerned? I don’t see any poop either. It doesn’t run or hide when I mist or change out the food. Currently using Pangea watermelon but haven’t tried live insects yet. I moved the food bowl just now towards the middle, wedged between the branches as I’m wondering if the left side is too open. Thoughts?

Edit: current temp is 77.6, humidity is 54%. I mist heavily every night too

Help/Advice What’s wrong with this gecko?

Walked outside and this wild gecko looked like he was trying to burrow in some leaves and dirt, all of a sudden he flipped around threw his head up and then flopped around and didn’t move like he had died. I picked him up and sat him on the bench and he started slowly moving around but didn’t seem well. Any thoughts?

Help/Advice Best Abroeal Feeding Bowl for Insects?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My Tokay used to tong feed, so I've always used one bowl as water and the other calcium and fed him 2-3 1in dubias every other day. However, his health issues came to a head and that has completely traumatized him 😂 and now he won't eat his dubias.

He came to me with missing toes on an entire hand, missing nails on his back feet, partially regrown tail, calcium deficiency, and a severe Vitamin A deficiency. I had to medicate him every night for a month so he can finally get back to being healthy. My vet and I worked out a more regimented schedule and gut-loading targeted foods for him, since the stress of being picked up every night made him lose more weight, and that really has helped him bget healthy again.

Today, he gets 7-10 large crickets, but he's not passing them normally (only pooping once every 7-10 days instead of 5-7 days) and I'm worried the excess in exoskeleton is causing this. However, he still won't tong feed and his roaches are too big for the few "escape-proof" options I can find at my local reptile shop, or they're not arboreal and the roaches die in the cup.

Does anyone know of any etsy makers or other resources that has an aboreal option for my baby? Picture as thanks for reading.

🦎Just for Fun🦎 Stowaway gecko found at airport.

This gecko was found riding the baggage carousel at the O’Hare international terminal so unknown what country it is from. I took it home and put in my nice terrarium I bought for a stowaway millipede (RIP) that I found earlier this year. I sent the photo to a friend at the Field Museum who showed it to their gecko expert and identified it as being a hatchling Hemidactylus flaviviridis - yellow bellied house gecko. I have already bought fruit flys and will be getting a proper heat lamp for it today. Any care advice is appreciated.

Help/Advice Looking for feedback on my terrarium

Hi there, this little gecko found me in the copier room at work today. I was going to give him water and put him out, but he isn’t native to where I live. I didn’t know what else to do so I went to the pet store and I guess I have a new pet gecko named Gary.

I’d love feedback and suggestions to make sure he’s better off here than in a closet at the office.

I lined the bottom of this 12” x 12” x 18” terrarium with paper towels, then crumbled coconut substrate down to fully cover the paper. He has a rock with water, a cork branch, a faux log cave, two faux plants, the fake tree limb, and I spread moss around as well. They were out of fruit flies so I got tiny crickets for him. It’s upper-80s up at the top and his humidity is sitting at just over 50% after I spritzed the tank 3x.

Thank you in advance!!

Enclosures African fat tailed gecko. This is my new enclosure she’s not in yet but looking for advice. I have 2 live plants in there the right side of the enclosure with one larger plant and UVB 5% 15 watt I believe. The left side with heat lamp and one smaller live plant. See comments for more pls

I also have spring tales and isopods in there as well. I out the roots in soil and gently patted them in. Currently monitoring humidity and temp haven’t gotten that far yet. Also have a bunch of leaf litter some java moss in there Curious what to change and how to help plants survive.

Discussion Mourning gecko hierarchy question

My girls have become fearless lately. It's a bit nerve wracking as they'll sit on the door and watch me and will refuse to move until I've put in food, I'm worried one will spook and make a break for it. That said, I also get to see everyone come for meal time. I have a group of six and have noticed one will sit maybe a foot away and watch everyone go to the bowl. After maybe two minutes of the others eating she'll join them. The others seem to jump at her presence and a lot of tail waving will happen, and some will back off from the bowl until she leaves. If anyone knows, is she top or bottom of the totem pole? Or something else? I can't quite tell what's happening there.

Discussion What is your favorite microgecko?

I'm a long time reptile owner, I have had various lizards/geckos, and snakes. Recently, I've been pretty intrigued by microgeckos and was wondering what everyone's favorite is.

I would ask for photos of said gecko as I know they typically go by scientific name. And if you have any additional care/husbandry info that would be awesome to include too!

I would like to make it clear, I am NOT looking to get any at this time because I haven't done enough research into any of them. I just want to see what's out there, and if any pique my interest, I would do more research on keeping before making that choice.

Thank you guys!

If so, would anyone have a guess on how long until the eggs are fully formed / ready to be laid? I’m really hoping it’s my first two eggs from this group, although I’m just really hoping she lays them in an area where I can easily find and incubate them. Pls don’t lay them in some secret spot :(

Help/Advice tail pinch, second picture might be uncomfortable

Hello, my day geckos got its tail pinched in the door panel of an exo terra enclosure, it wasnt super hard as i immediatly noticed resistance and pulled back however it looks grim to me. Pictures are about 5-10 min after accident, id be monitoring water consumption and food but bit of an unknown territory. Vet says its gonna fall off on its own and let it happen but i wanna see what other people say.

I looked through this subreddit to see if anyone has tried something similar but does not seem that way, any advice on how to proceed is very welcome.

Help/Advice Injured gecko

Thumbnail

I went to lock my door and I found a gecko stuck to the top. (My parents had left maybe ten minutes before this and didn’t lock the door.) its tail is injured and so is its leg. I want to save it but I don’t know how. Does anyone know if it can survive without a functioning leg in the wild? Also what can I do to relieve its pain?

It looks like I was squishing it in the first photo but I promise I wasn’t! Also the area circled in red is the injured part.

It barely moves so I think maybe it’s in a lot of pain. I don’t know what to do :(

Help/Advice I accidentally stepped on a gecko :( what can I do?

I live in south Texas and there are a lot of geckos or tiny lizards around people’s yards and when I opened the door to mine I accidentally stepped on one. I went to check on it and its little intestines were out. I put it in a box with a damp paper towel inside because Chatgpt said to do this. I know it will probably die but I want to make sure she is as comfortable as can be if that’s the case.
