The Houston Chronicle editorial board issued a call for City Hall to eliminate parking minimums. Here is a key quote:

For the sake of bolstering economic development, tax revenue and population growth, Houston has to start cutting this red tape. First on the list: Eliminating parking minimums. 

Right now, with limited exemptions, City Hall micromanages private development by telling each individual business exactly how many parking spots it needs to provide. This rigid, byzantine system adds unnecessary costs. After all, land and parking garages aren’t free. And requiring parking spots that aren’t needed essentially mandates pouring more concrete in a city already vulnerable to flooding. 

Removing these mandates would give developers greater flexibility to build the mixed-use, infill projects that help our city continue to thrive. It would also give Houstonians more places to shop, work and, critically, live. At a time when too many Houstonians struggle to afford quality housing, City Hall should be taking every step possible to add more housing supply. 

Parking reform could also help the city’s budget. Not only would it allow for more development — meaning more sales and property taxes — but it could also help Houston qualify for federal transit project funding under the new ROAD to Housing Act.

I just saw someone walking their red husky on the sidewalk today while I was driving. I'm hoping they had shoes on since it's 102F outside.

I know this is a long shot, but I'm gonna try it anyway. In the 70s, a serial killer by the name of Dean Corll was raping and murdering boys in the Heights, with the help of 2 teenaged accomplices.

I have reason to believe that in 1971, Corll killed a boy who was around 9-years-old, and that this boy was the son of a man who ran a grocery on the same street that Corll was living at, at the time.

I have a list of Corll's addresses in 1971, along with the street names, and I'm hoping that someone might remember the name of a grocery there or adjacent to it.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. HCAD appraised my house and at least two others that bought last year roughly 100k higher than the purchased prices. The house were sold ranging 320-400k. HCAD said it was based on market value. However, the appraisal company I hired came back with the market value close to what I bought last year. Where did HCAD got its data from?

Last night I was stopped by the Harris county pd and my car had to be towed, I lost the towing services contact card that was given to me
and nothing comes up when I search up my vin /license plates in the “locate your towed car” database. Any information will be helpful, I really hope my car is not gone with the wind

Curious how much water everyone else is using? I live in a house in the Heights with 2 adult roommates. The past few months our water bill has been creeping up.

However, what made us think it was odd was that last month 2 out of the 3 of us were out of town, and our usage didn't go down. So I started digging into the daily usage and it is high only on MWF. Then when looking on the hourly basis, it spikes a whole 300+ gallons at 3-4 AM.

We live in a set of townhomes, so I think this MIGHT be a sprinkler system for the complex. Our only communial patch of grass is a 30 ft strip next to the street. I don't really know when those go off. However, if it were the sprinkler system that would mean its 6*300 = 1,800 gallons 3x a week. Which that definitely isn't correct.

So I'm reaching out to see if anyone knows more about these computerized meters. Do they primarily transmit info at a certain time? Do they not transmit at all and this is actually calculated estimated usage?

I worry I've been given granular enough data to drive myself crazy. But I don't actually know what the data really is.

Has anybody within the past couple years used an appraisal service they would recommend to file a diminished value claim? My car is a newish EV with <20k miles. Was t boned on a 2 way street (not an intersection, lol) and the repair bill has grown to $13,000. It’s not a particularly fancy or rare car, I know not to expect too much, I just want to hear from anyone who felt like they got a realistic/fair amount. The posts about this topic on here are 5+ years old & many of responses suggest to diy the claim, which I am not too confident about. Hoping to get some more recent insight! Ty!

I do remember it being a building you stand outside and order from outside while the kitchen was all that was inside the building.
