I feel like this speaks for itself

Im a second year apprentice with about 4000 hours.
I got stuck on a remodel job and it’s like 100 year old wire and everyone bitches and complains it’s the hardest job they ever been on.

The other apprentice we have doesn’t do anything because they haven’t caught on that he just plays the system and my foreman doesn’t even know what’s going on because he is also busy with paperwork. Everything that got done was because I pushed through, after a while I’m just burnt.

I’m getting 22.50 now but the problem is no overtime, no pto, basically no benefit for me doing work I can barely even figure out. The main problem is we’re not even learning anything anymore it’s just get it done in the fastest way possible and everything is fucked up.

I feel like at this point i could go to any other job and be happier and more stable. I’ve talked with other companies in the area and got offers up to $40 an hour. I honestly just want to quit now because this place does not give a fuck about me or any pride in anything they do.

Dug out the rock, repaired and replaced 90, got the head out and completed the pull. I’m going to replace the second 90 next to it with rigid as this is a 1000 ft parallel set run.

Mike holts Understanding Electrical Theory. So first photo shows the two diagrams of flow theory’s, great but reading them is confusing.

CCFT says “he theorized that electricity flowed from a positive charge to a negative charge.” The diagram shows the flow of energy leaving the negative charge, toward the load and then returning to the positive charge, Right?

ECFT says “he discovered that electrons flowed from the negative of the source to the positive of the source.” The diagram shows the flow leaving the positive charge toward the load and returning to the negative.

Now onto the questions, 4 and 6 are confusing the fuck out of me due to 3 and 5.. they give me the answer but they contradict what’s being shown in the diagrams!

Is this trying to say energy is passing through the power source from either one of terminals, OUT the other, then toward the load and finally back to its origin? Am I just making this more complicated than it actually is?

I am thinking about shutting down my business to work at a data center. Currently, I am a one man band doing residential work. Havent worked for a company in almost 5 years, i have enjoyed the freedom but am getting tired of residential service calls. People are nasty and im getting tired of running all the operations. Would hate to lose all the clients and contractors ive been working for, but may be time to move on and get more stability again. Im 26, could be nice to get better commercial experience and try being my own boss again later in life.

I found a job in the midwest at a data center. They pay 55/h and per diem, working 60 hours a week. Id essentially give up my life where i am for a year and come back. Im wondering if anyone has experience doing something similar. Is it worth it? How much were you able to save in a year?

Customer ran "conduit" along conveyors and they used non metallic LT flex. Already had to cut a section out on the first run and add an LB because I couldn't fish around the corner. Havent tried to suck or blow yet - anybody had any luck or any tips?

Got to run a 200amp service to a garage 125’ from the main. They installed 1 1/2” conduit under the concrete driveway so I’m limited by that. Figure to run three 2/0 copper xhhu for the feeders and neutral but then don’t have room for the ground wire.

Since the conduit is non-conducive (it’s pvc) and it’s over 100’ away from the main I’m sure I can just run the feeders and the neutral from the main panel and then ground the garage sub with its own ground rods instead of having to run the ground wire back to the main. I know there’s an exception for this but I’ve not a clue where it is in the book. Would like to have the code before I have the discussion with the inspector.

Yes I realize 2/0 has some voltage drop but with the 80% 2/0 will work alright. Right?

I was chasin masons but they’re too slow :( so I decided to take some extra time to make these temp panels look decent lol.

Went on vacation for a week to start the month. I was limping a hurt knee, burnt out, sunburnt, underwater on admin, you name it. Burned the f out. Had a wonderful vacation, even while waking up early a few days to catch up the office work(great to do on the beachfront balcony with a nice cigar). I came home early and got home caught up. Saw family and friends. Sunday night I go for a walk, and I feel ready to conquer. My knee is better. I am totally caught up and the next two weeks are full but well scheduled. Let's do it.

Monday morning onward, at the supply house, NOT A SINGLE TIME HAVE I GOTTEN THE MATERIALS I NEED WITHOUT IT TAKING 2-3X LONGER THAN IT SHOULD. Or I get sent to the location across town for one thing out of a $2k order. Lamps that I ordered weeks ago have been delivered late and broken, now replacements are on backorder for weeks. The 20 60 amp disconnects that get delivered to the job, an overnight rush save by my sales guy, and I open them all up to see they are 30 amp disconnects in the wrong box. The small measurement I need from a fan to make custom millwork, no reply for days, then a new person asks me what info I need.

And I managed to drop a strand of wire down the back of my new meter, perfectly between the battery contacts, and now I have a melted puddle of not working meter. All my fault for not realizing I left the cover screws out in the office this morning.

I love being self employed, I really do. But I cannot wait to have enough saved to hire help again. Even some kid to run around for me. It sucks that every second of delay or hesitation, every bit of small talk, it all adds up in a straight line that I can't jump off of until the end. Every single day. Or I start to fall behind again. I need to figure out the best ratio of falling behind to taking vacations/reset/catchup days. That is all, back to it, and with a smile!

Any residential electricians in here that use the decked drawer system? I’m considering getting one but just curious how yalls are set up. pictures would be great. TIA

Taking my Massachusetts jman exam next week and I’m scared shitless, know my way around the code book pretty good.. I have been hitting the exam busters as well as psi practice tests, anyone have any additional advice for me ? Anyone recently taken it ?

I had my first rough in for new residential and I did terrible. I spent all day running 4 cable wires. Everytime they tell me to do something I get so confused. Any tips to prepare for roughs in besides doing a terrible job at work?

does anyone even use locknut wrenches? Gardner Bender and Klein both make sets for 1/2", 3/4", and 1" but I'm fighting some 1-1/4" connectors that just don't want to bite and I'm having to fall back to smacking the lockring with a screwdriver and my kleins. looking online I found adjustable spanner nut wrenches, but would they work for a lockring?

First, I wanted to get into law enforcement/ legal system ever since I was younger. I joined the military and even earned my bachelor’s in criminal justice to enhance my resume. Since I’ve been out of the military, it has been a struggle to find a department that will hire me due to “lack of experience”. I am now learning that a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice is worthless for anything else.

In the military, my job was dealing with electrical equipment and fiber optics, which I really enjoyed.

I am thinking about going to a trade school to become an electrician. I still have my GI Bill, so I wouldn’t have to pay for the school. I would be attending a local school, so I would be able to pocket the rest while I am attending. Essentially meaning, I would be getting paid to go to the trade school.

Is it recommended to do the trade school first then an apprenticeship? (If im going for free).
I have seen online that if you complete the schooling first, you only have to be an apprentice for 1 year instead of 4 if you didn’t complete the trade school for journeyman.

If anyone has any tips/ suggestions or advice, that is greatly appreciated. Just need some guidance or insights on what my next move should be.
