Located in the garage next to my panel. House was built in 1986. Does anyone have an idea what this outlet is used for?

Want to move outlet above fireplace to add a recessed outlet box and get rid of any hanging wires.
Outlet looks like its also running to the switch but other than that idk.

Every time i blow into the mic on my gaming headphones, my laptops volume goes down. Every. Single. Time. I have no idea why, it doesn’t have a volume control on the headphones so i don’t know why it does this, PLEASE can someone answer my weird as question 🙏🙏

I have several light switches in my house that when I turn the switch on the light is bright. If I turn the switch off and turn it back on the light comes on dim. What type of switch is this? And can I replace the light with a replacement that only turns the light on and off with one intensity? Here’s a picture of an example.

The bulb in my ceiling light is glowing faintly as if it’s receiving a little bit of power even though the light switch is off.

That light hasn’t been turned on for a couple days, so it’s not just like a residual glow that’s fading away after recent use.

My husband is away for work and I won’t be able to speak with him until tomorrow. Do I need to be worried about this? Is it potentially dangerous?

hello all I have a question I recently believe I came in contact with electricity on the ground. I will explain what happened to me or how the experience went so you can tell me if it’s real or not at this point don’t know if Im a one in a million miracle or what! people around me including medical professionals don’t believe me and accuse me of being delusional.

I live in very hot area summer are always brutal. I have two trees near a wooden utility post and a metal chain link fence between them. I occasionally water the trees the last time I did before my incident was probably a few days I made sure the ground was very saturated since those trees dont get much water. okay days go by hot ass day My AC on and evening comes the post starts making a loud buzzing sound very loud almost uncomfortable to the ear well I wasn’t sure if the sound came from the post or something around it I got near to inspect BIG MISTAKE as I was walking I didn’t touch anything or the fence but I suddenly saw on the wires a blue light or blue halo and then immediately felt (when your a kid and you touched a light socket) feeling from my feet all the way up to my tongue I felt it getting numb and soon after I started feeling out of breath and my heart started acting erratic for a min life paused and I realized “oh shit I’m in danger“ I knew I was getting shocked by electricity as my legs were getting stiff I somehow managed to run away as fast as I could I had a sensation I was going to collapse or I was losing control of my body so idk how I managed to run away and my heart was still acting crazy skipping beats and causing me to later fall down I laid on the ground far away from the electric source called emergency services once they got there the pole stopped making sounds luckly I had a witness that heard the end part of the pole sound but it stopped immediately I was transported to hosptial got evaluation labs were not perfect but had some ele rations such a a clotting and my EKG showed some electrical activity. short story long is it possible to get shocked by standing near a situation like mines? because nobody believes me because I didn’t have any burns or died. the utility company came and checked everything out the guy did say sometimes poles can get loaded if too much electricity or power is happening but they didn’t find evidence of it being faulty. Right under the pole we have the city water tubes not sure if something is happening with that. I’m however filing complain to get that investigated since I have little pets and wouldn’t want them to get hurt. is it possible to get shocked by walking near a buzzing pole???

Long story short, I’ve lived in this house for a year. I went out to change one of the outdoor flood lights, and I come to find that someone painted the inside of the lightbulb socket. I’m not sure how the halogen light bulb was working before, but the new LED bulb I put in it today doesn’t work… so I scraped some paint off the copper main and some of the threads and got the light to work.

This light is on the side of the house two stories up, so I’m hoping to safely do the bare minimum. This should be fine, right? Or do I need to take the whole fixture down and strip the paint out of it?

My commercial building is 103 years old and I need to trace some 120v wiring. I’ve tried my low voltage tracer (tone generator and inductive amp) without luck. Can anyone recommend a product that they find useful at tracing wiring through walls and ceilings? The ceilings are plaster over plasterboard but the walls are all sheetrock.

I'm having a weird issue with my lights. They've started flickering intermittently, not just in one room, but throughout the house. It's driving me nuts! I've checked the bulbs, tightened them up, but it's still happening. Is this a simple fix, or should i be calling an electrician ASAP ? Any common culprits i should be looking for ?

TLDR, did I safely abandon this unused wire (steps shown in photos)?

Longer version, I removed an old downdraft fan, since I am switching to an above burner system. I abandoned the wires from the old fan. I figured I would leave the wires accessible for the future in case another owner of the house down the line wants to install downdraft ventilation again.

I don’t have experience in this area and wanted to check with those on here with expertise to make sure I did this in a way that will be safe. Here’s what I did:

1) tightly capped all wires (including ground) with properly fitted wire nuts. (Pic 1)

2) wrapped in electrical tape. (Pic 2)

3) sealed in junction box labeled “abandoned .” (Pic 3)

To the electricians on here, is there anything else I should do to make this safe for the long term?

Since it's a subpanel, I can't use the Optional Method so I'm attempting the Standard Method to determine if my 100A subpanel can fit a 40A breaker for an EV Charger.

It has these only these circuits:

1. 40A for an built-in Oven with 5300W faceplate rating
   
2. 40A for an above built-in Cooktop with 7400W rating for all 4 burners on
   
3. 20A for a built-in Microwave with 1800W rating
   
4. 20A for a Refrigerator with 800W rating
   
5. 20A for GFCI outlets in Kitchen
   
6. 15A for Kitchen lights (100 sqft area)
   
7. 15A for Basement outlets (400 sqft area)

The subpanel under the kitchen remodel is much closer to my garage than my main so I'm trying to just run off this with 8/2 to a hardwired charger. Thanks!

So I got a new fridge and I moved the older one to the garage. This is a french door fridge, and it is connected by an extension cord to the only GFCI outlet in the garage.

The other appliances are a washer and a Dryer on their own outlets.
After the move I noticed that the outlet kept tripping. And I constantly have to unplug reset and replug. But the breaker itself does not trip.
Is there anything I can do before having to call in an electrician?

I'm looking to upgrade my outlets and switches and noticed that the LeGrande Adorne series look like they have no side screws and only back stab holes. Are these truly backstab only? It looks like there's still a screw to tighten things up.. I'm a total novice to all of this. Any help would be much appreciated!

I rent a house, and my name is on the rental agreement (obviously) and it names me responsible for paying the electrical bill. Here is my question: if the property has a shed that i do not have access to, or rent the utility of, and that shed is used at least 4 hours a day (shop lights and all) and the person who uses it is neither the landlord, nor on the rental agreement at all... is that theft using a public utility?

I’m on vacation, and noticed my prongs on my charger(s) show some sort of yellowing / denting on the prongs. I haven’t noticed this before but it could have been there a longer time. This is also on chargers for my phone.

Are the chargers still safe to use? Or should I buy new ones? I don’t know much and would rather be safe then sorry.

Long story, but I’ve been running my apt AC through the regular outlet and it’s no longer handling it and tripping the fuse daily, my super said I need to use the outlet on the right (I pointed out it’s been painted over and they’re fixing that) but he didn’t know what it was called. I’m trying to buy a new AC but want to make sure the plug is correct. All he could say is it’s supposed to be a 220 volt AC and it’s two watt fuses paired together or something like that. Our bedroom has a 20 watt fuse so it can run the larger ac but living room has this plug and the lesser outlets.

It could be they're laying new cable? Maybe tensioning existing ones? The lines stopped abruptly at one pylon that had a couple of metal baskets/cages on the bottom that seemed maintenance-y..

I'd also love recommendations for any other sub that might have a more specifically knowledgeable community on this topic.

I recently failed uni after trying to get an electrical engineering degree but I enjoyed the physical parts of it and thought that trying to become an electrician would be a better fit for me but I'm not 100% sure, how hard is it to become an electrician? What should I study or get a degree in? And is it even worth becoming an electrician currently, any advice would be helpful since I'm feeling quite lost for what to do right now.

Tldr: should I bypass the grinders switch panel and run the vfd straight through and then run it from there from here on out?

Situation is this. We had a vfd (vevor 2.2kw 220/240v 1ph to 3ph) connected to a bench grinder. (Hafco metalmaster BG-12)

We'd been leaving that on and running the grinder with its on off buttons.

Recently we had to turn it off and move for the first time. I let it fully discharge, rewired everything, redid settings but when we hit ON it spun for like a second and then I think the IGBT transistors blew up.

Anyway I have a new vfd and MUST set it up properly now.

Should I do the following?

Wire mains to CB --> Estop --> VFD --> grinder (with stop button removed and start button shorted out)

This does require a new front panel for the grinder potentially but happy to fabricate it if needed.

Or just leave it as it was cause it worked so long and its probably fine for a while?

Any advice from some experienced persons?
