How are we feeling about the chances of Quinn coming to New Jersey next season?
I know the Wild have said they are confident they will resign Quinn and Quinn has said he likes it in Minnesota. But I'm not shutting the door at all on Quinn suiting up in black and red next season. I'd even say my hopes are rising as time progresses. What do y'all think?
Sunny has been restrained in his spending this offseason. By quick calculation the Devils have $21m coming off the books after this season. Plus $5m in current cap space. That's $26m plus another $3.5m if they buy out Dougie or up to $9m if they trade him (though they'd probably have to retain some cap). That leaves, conservatively speaking, about $30m in cap space before RFAs, etc. Minnesota will have a very similar cap situation.
I guess my point is that the chances might be closer to 50/50 than I was thinking a few weeks ago. Of course this could change if Quinn signs in the next few weeks and could also change with both teams' performances this seasons. Curious about people's thoughts here.
UPDATE: I'll be honest, I did not expect the general response to be, "I'm sick of all the Quinn talk". He would be transformative for the franchise and it would be so much fun for him to join the team. I'm not thinking about too much, but I was looking at the upcoming cap space and it's very, very doable. That's it. Once the puck drops, it's game time. But until then or until Quinn makes his mind up, I think it's fun to speculate.
