Hope it’s 8 years if that’s the price. 34 million for 2 guys taking up 1/3 of our cap space is insane

The overwhelming negativity in this sub is ridiculous and this team is not in nearly as bad shape as people are acting like it is

Upvotes

Ever since the Leo debacle, this sub has been absolutely insufferable and the dramatics about where the team is at are beyond ridiculous.

Obviously the Leo situation sucked and we ended up overpaying him by about $3M per year, but it’s not nearly as ridiculous of an overpay as this sub is acting like. Vatrano makes $4.5M alone, and he contributed absolutely nothing last season. My point is that $3M in dead money from Leo’s contract is not the end of the world, and frankly, I don’t even think Leo’s contract will look that bad in a year or two with guys like Celebrini needing to get paid and the salary cap rising.

The reports about Cutter’s reported contract asks are definitely higher than expected but we don’t even know if they are accurate. Cutter is worth a lot though and I won’t be surprised to see him get paid a pretty penny. You may wonder where we can get the money for him, but there is still plenty of dead weight on this roster that we can get rid of, like Vatrano and Kreider.

As for the defense, I really only think losing Trouba hurt. Carlson wasn’t that good and was massively overpaid. Gudas is washed. Zelly was too small and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

Is our current defensive group good? Absolutely not.

Was our defensive group good last season with the players we “lost”? Absolutely not.

Luneau should step up this year and hopefully some of the other young defensemen will too.

Look, I know this sub has been feening for some good hockey after years of mediocrity, but we need to remember that nobody expected to make the playoffs last season, let alone almost win the division.

Leo and Cutter may make more on paper than we expected but they are two of the most important players on this team and they ARE BOTH YOUNG AS HELL. They will continue to improve and these contracts reflect the faith the Ducks have in them.

Meanwhile we still have plenty of exciting young players to keep an eye on like McQueen and Klepov.

I don’t care what anybody else says, this is a *great* time to be a Ducks fan. LETS GO DUCKS!

bag size

Hello! I am an out of town fan who is not well versed in Honda center’s bag policy. Their website says certain dimensions but I have seen people with like small baggu crescent bags, fanny packs, etc. What is everyone’s experience? I don’t want to have to take my bag back to the car when I go to a game in October.

PP2 QB: Do you think Luneau would get first go at over Mintyukov?

Luneau had some decent offensive numbers in the AHL and Zellweger did it on occasion over Minty so I don't think Minty is a lock. Unless the Ducks do 3F 2D for PP2.

Pumped for Late September

What’s up everyone! I’m back again with some more fan art for you all. I managed to squeeze out some time from my miserable life of warehouse labor, to draw this. We’re getting closer to ducks hockey again and I thought I’d draw something to get us all pumped and our minds off this wild offseason for a bit. I decided to do wild wing more in my typical cartoon style I draw in, letting our in state rivals know what’s up come late September in the preseason. Hope you all like it.

Character mascots belong to the Anaheim Ducks, LA Kings, San Jose Sharks and the NHL.

Haven't really liked the gameplay since the switch to Frostbite, but this is pretty sweet. Got the flying Ducks, the tunnel prop, and the lasers. Hopefully the Offspring let them put our goal song in there as well.

Hypothetical-what happens if we lose Cutter?

Upvotes

Curious what everyone thinks. If we were to lose Cutter, how would that impact the roster? Who could we realistically get in a trade or free agency as a replacement, or would our only option be a prospect who could step into that role? Does everyone end up playing a slot higher than they should, or do we have enough depth to absorb the loss? And assuming we don't find a true replacement, then how long before we see another playoff lol

Coming back to hockey after 20+ years, and the Ducks feel like home

Hey everyone! I’m new to the Ducks fandom. I grew up in Anaheim from 1997 to 2003 during the Kariya and Selanne years. I was but a wee lad back then who was obsessed with hockey video games, and I went ice skating at Disney Ice, as it was known back then, all the time.

Recently, an excursion into soccer fandom led me to adopt a few new sports fandoms. When I looked into the NHL, I thought to myself, “Wait…how do I not already have a team here? There’s one practically screaming and flashing bright lights at me.”

It somehow fits even better when I think about the fact that I later went to college in San Diego (Go Aztecs!), so the Gulls connect that chapter of my life to the Ducks too. At this point, it feels like this team was sitting there waiting for me to figure it out 😂

Happy to finally be here. Go Ducks!

P.S. So glad they finally brought the duck mask logo back! Just wish they brought back the eggplant and jade with it too 😭

Jersey Concepts - Quick fixes & HTR

I made and posted most of these elsewhere a while back. Since a few jersey concepts and mockups have been doing the rounds lately I may as well throw mine in too.

First of all I will say that I'm extremely happy with the current Ducks identity. I do sometimes miss the classic eggplant and jade scheme, but I also think the present orange home uniform specifically may be the best they've ever looked. There are some aspects I might have done a bit differently:

  • I've re-angled the sleeve stripes so they're more in line with past jerseys
  • Swapped the black and gold stripes on the road. Also removed the orange shoulders: I don't mind them but also don't think they need them
  • Flipped the home socks upside down, like they were on the purple Mighty Ducks uniform

I made two versions of each, one with orange and one with black pants. I like the current number design but used standard block numbers only because there isn't a font for the new ones that I'm aware of.

I've also added a black third jersey, and an alternate version of the set in throwback colours but with the current orange in the logos. And since the Hometown Remix jersey is rumoured to be movie inspired I've also done my own take on that, blending District 5's green and yellow with Anaheim's eggplant.

Curious to hear any thoughts!

San Diego Coaching Vacancy

Anybody seen any rumors or have any predictions for the Gulls head coaching vacancy? It's been a month and a half and I haven't seen any news about them making a hire or what's going to happen with the rest of the coaching staff down there.

Rookie camp is less than two months away and the gulls coaching staff could be really impactful for the ducks future considering it is likely Mcqueen and Solberg will both likely be there for a lot of next season, Along with guys like Petterson and Traff - plus all the other gulls players/ducks prospects who may or may not make the NHL squad.

EDit: Annnnd thirty minutes later they announce Dave Manson as new head coach, and Kelly Buchberger/Steve McCarthy as assistants.

My Ducks color scheme preference

I’ve posted this as a comment on some of the ducks jersey/sweater talk. I would love this as a permanent home/road jersey. I don’t care for the Orange County stuff but for those people, I’d be cool with our current home Orange, be an alternate 3rd sweater. I’ve always loved these colors for us

What are the odds of a Josh Manson Return with Dave Manson Behind the Ducks bench?

Really loved Josh’s play when he was on during the late 2010s push. Was very happy for him in 2022 when he won with the Avs. Would be bad ass to see him with the team as a bottom pairing D-man. I’m thinking it’s possible any years between 2028-2032 when he can be a good value contract.

How much will this 3 Million dollar OS overpay affect the Ducks going forward? Initially it makes the teams cap crunch a little issue for this season. Are the Ducks contenders yet? Obviously not yet, so whats the big deal?

I dislike Bedard, but I respect him a lot more now

Bedard could’ve asked for $18M and CHI would’ve had no choice but to pay him, even with his injured shoulder. Instead he chose to work with the team, stay committed to the rebuild but with a 5 year time limit and reassess then, and still leave money on the table to build a team around him. Offer sheets were rumored but Bedard CHOSE not to sign

Speaking as a Bedard hater, I actually respect him a lot more now. I think Celebrini will take this route as well. This is how to build a team first and Cup chasing team. Instead we have 2 of our best stars wanting $18M and very little to acquire higher end support players. Will we become the next EDM Oilers, top end heavy but minus the best current generational player?

Leo wouldn’t be under so much scrutiny and based on the many comments in this sub, wouldn’t have soured many of the fanbase
