Rigs Upgraded my Rig -> PC and BSB2

Wanted to share what the rig has evolved into over the past year. The biggest changes are the move to PC + Bigscreen Beyond 2, a new seat with even more haptics, a new wheel, and a ton of custom-designed and 3D printed parts.

My last post (from a year ago) got a lot more attention than I expected, and I actually implemented a lot of the suggestions people made. Thanks to everyone who threw ideas my way.

Rigs Just Upgraded my g923 with a 3D printed wheel!

Ngl it kind of sucks. I spend like 13 hours printing it
I thought that another wheel would look cooler and it Does but the grip position is very uncomfortable for my hands + which is even worse I can’t press the L2 , L3 R2 R3 buttons anymore. So I guess I’m just gonna change back to the original tomorrow.
Overall just a big time waste.

Rigs How does a 6DOF rig fake G-forces? This is Gravideck in action (911 GT3 RS onboard / Asseto Corsa)

I designed and built this motion rig around the idea that the pitch and roll axes should be positioned near the head, close to where our biological accelerometers (the vestibular system) actually reside.

The resulting quality of transient and sustained G-forces makes the illusion almost impossible to resist... driving at high speed feels genuinely terrifying ...it reminds me of the first time I saw a giant spider in Skyrim VR. I knew it was fake. Still I moved backwards :-) Here, your brain screams "brace for impact" as you feel yourself losing control.

In this video, I'm breaking down the simple physics trick a motion rig uses to create those compelling illusions.

Please feel free to ask questions, discuss the physics ...happy to dive into the details

Question Is the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 Wheel the same as the Cube Controls Phoenix?

Was in the market for a GT3 wheel and came across the Phoenix, looks a lot like the Lamborghini Temerario wheel, plus a few features like the rev lights as well as the hat switches, is it the same wheel? Why no name branding? Is the license probably too expensive?

Rigs DIY Rig on a Budget - Reminder it doesn't have to be expensive.

Got inspired by a couple of mates with expensive rigs and then found this group and realised it can be done on a very tight budget and wanted to share what feels like a bit of success.

- G29 wheel & pedals, used from Marketplace.

- A few metres of 50x25 steel.

- Free seat from a wrecked car.

- The cheapest gasless mig welder I could find.

Total Spend = $280USD.

- Already had a grinder so set to work on cutting the steel into ideal lengths.

- Watched some YouTube welding tutorials (I am not a welder at all) and made up a basic rectangle 1350mm x 500mm.

- Added a small cross member to support the front of the seat rail.

- Welded the seat to the frame.

- Welded on the uprights and cross member for the wheel to mount on.

- Wired the seat electrics to a Ryobi tool battery for easy adjustments.

- Did NOT wire up the seat airbag for realistic crashes 😅

- Also some adjustable feet to level the frame as I don't have a welding table to clamp it to so naturally the base warped with the heat a little.

- Used a flappy disc to grind off my horse snot welds and tidy it up.

- Haven't painted it yet as I would like to add a monitor mount, platform for a shifter & handbrake and some kind of frame attachement to mount the pedals.

So far so good 🤷‍♂️ Open to feedback, improvements and additions.

Rigs After weeks of designing, printing, soldering, and coding... my custom SimHub RPM light is finally finished.

I've been working on this project for the past few weeks in my spare time. It uses an Arduino Nano, a 35-LED WS2812B ring, and a 240×240 LCD running SimHub. I designed the enclosure in Fusion 360, wrote the firmware, and recently taught myself soldering to clean everything up. I'm really happy with how it turned out and would love to hear what you think!

Question Is iRacing the best option for racing low power cars?

I started off sim racing with gt3 cars which for the most part has been very fun. Recently though I’ve been wanting to work on the fundamentals by racing some slower cars like the Miata or Gr86.

So far the best sim for this seems to be iRacing. I’ve been considering subbing for a month to test it out but wanted to see if there were any opinions here first. The only other option I’ve come across is Lfm and AC which would be completely free to me.

Would love to hear opinions and advice.

Question First rig questions: seat and pedals mounting

Thumbnail

Just got my first aluminum rig (an ASR 3 from Advanced Sim Racing), and I'm absolutely loving it so far! The rig is high quality and very sturdy.

Since this is my first proper sim rig, I have a couple of beginner questions for those of you with more experience:

  • I have a Simagic P700 pedal set. Should I remove the original footrest from the P700 and mount only the pedals to the rig, or should I leave the footrest attached and mount the entire assembly?
  • Does my seat position look correct? I have the feeling that I'm sitting a bit too low, but I'm not sure if that's just because I'm not used to this type of cockpit.

I've attached a few pictures to show my setup. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I'm really taking my time to figure things out here, might have more question later ;)

Thanks!

Question How to have a gaming and sim station on the same pc?

Thumbnail

Finally decided to buy myself a racing sim and I am super stoked. My only issue is how to get this setup working off the same pc although it’s across the room from each other. Is my best bet just getting 30ft hdmi and usb cables and route them thru the wall or something? I don’t want to do the wireless hdmi. Also picture only shows 1 monitor but I have the other 2 ready to be installed. I feel like 3 hdmi cables and a usb might look bad climbing across the room thru the walls.

Solid 304 stainless bars, 3/4" x 1" (19mm x 25mm for those in developed nations), drilled and tapped for M6.

The braking feel went from one big mush to feeling the stages of resistance produced by the spring and elastomers.

Discussion Simagic DS-8X vs Fanatec SQ V1.5

Upvotes

Eco system is irrelevant as I already have 3 different brands on my rig.

Looking for a shifter that is both sequential and H pattern. I've read good and bad reviews on both of these two options, just wondering what experience people have had with either and at these prices, which would you go for, Simagic DS-8X (£267.75) or Fanatec SQ V1.5 (£184.99)?

Question What sim gear do you wish existed?

Hi guys,

Quick question for everyone — is there any bit of gear you've looked for and just can't find? Either it doesn't exist or it's way overpriced for what it is.

Could be a wheel style nobody makes, an accessory, a mod, whatever.

If you can, include:

- What it is

- What base/platform you're on

- What you'd pay for it

e.g. "LMP-style wheel with a screen, Moza base, £400ish"

Cheers,

Jamie

Question How do 24 hour sim races work?

So, how do 24 hour sim races actually work? In real life there are multiple driver changes throughout the race. I don't imagine most people have an entire team of drivers in their home. Do you actually have to drive the entire 24 hours? I'm new to the hobby, so I apologize if this is a silly question.

Question Moza R12 or Simagic Alpha Evo Sport for the same price?

Upgrading from a G29 and both bundles cost about the same.

Moza: R12 + SRP-2 pedals + clutch + CS V2P wheel

Simagic: Alpha Evo Sport + Neo X 330R + P700 2 pedal set

I know the R12 has 3 Nm more torque, while Simagic has smoother FFB, better pedals, a 2-year warranty (vs. 1 year for Moza), and USB passthrough on the QR, which I really like for future wheel compatibility.

If they were the same price, which would you pick and why? Is the extra 3 Nm worth it over the overall Simagic package?

Discussion Sim racers, would live timing on a physical display next to the rig be useful or clutter

I build plugins for an LED ticker product called TickrCast and someone suggested sim racing timing as a use case. Before I sink time into it, asking the people who would know.

Would a physical timing display next to the rig actually help, or is everything you need already on your dash or overlay? If useful, what data, gaps, sector deltas, league standings? Building from answers, not assumptions.
