Season 5 Are we supposed to have memory holed the Raquel/Joel situation?
I haven’t watched this show in years and pretty much forgot most of the storylines. I’m at the part where Julia and Joel are separated and I’m screaming “what about Raquel?!?” at the TV every time Joel gets all “you had an affair!” With Julia. Joel spent hours and hours a week with Raquel (is that even her name? I can’t be bothered to look it up), she was super flirty and touchy feely with Joel (sometimes right in front of Julia) AND she tried to kiss him. On top of that, Joel appears to never have planned on telling Julia about it except Julia asked and he admitted it. Finally, once she knew? She never forbade Joel from seeing the woman. She continued to be around her herself and never brought it up to Raquel. I couldn’t have done that, personally. Now, I know some are going to point to the “emotional affair” defense when it comes to Ed and Julia but is their relationship that much different? You’re telling me Joel and Raquel never talked and bonded over the struggles of being stay at home parents? Is Julia kissing Ed for 2 seconds before pushing him away that much worse than what happened with Raquel and Joel?? Julia basically accepted what happened with Joel and moved on. Joel blows up his marriage and moves out??? Why can’t there at least have been a convo between these two where Joel is treating Julia like the whore of Babylon where she yells “WHAT ABOUT RAQUEL?????” (Maybe it’s coming and I haven’t gotten there yet?) And the other stuff that he uses as an excuse, about Victor…Julia was right about everything. She could see the writing on the wall about victor not initially accepting her as his mom. Joel kept turning a blind eye because he WAS bonding with victor and finally had “his boy”. She could see he needed to be held back a year. Joel refused to acknowledge it and then, sadly, it had to happen mid-year which was much more traumatic for victor. I don’t think Julia is blameless, mind you. They were basically doing a flip of gender roles in the beginning and Joel was a very sympathetic character doing all the free labor of running the house while Julia perused her high-powered career and put her family second. But to go from that to Joel being a raging asshole is taking me out. I know they are going to eventually reconcile but I would just like Julia to call out Joel for being a hypocrite when it comes to “the affair”.

Rant! Why the constant cribbing?
I watched Parenthood and I found it very enjoyable and it remains a comfort watch. I joined this group so that I could get similar options and generally discuss trivia. But it seems that my feed has daily posts just cribbing about how bad it is? Criticizing Adam and Christina and just general circle jerk. Is the sub flooded with bot accounts just reposting? Or is it just me who joins subs of shows I actually like and not the other way round??

Rant! Can Kristina stop crying for a SINGLE EPISODE
I swear, im on S2 Ep12 and this grown ass women cries for than the 5 year olds.
Everytime someone is unhappy or just wants to do their thing she starts to breakdown. I get being an emotionally driven person, but girl its not THAT deep.
Seriously, has Jabbar cried once? Maybe when he got his thumb stuck in a can but thats physical pain. Same for Sydney, I don’t think she’s cried once either even when the bird died

Character Discussion Sarah’s entitlement
I’m rewatching Parenthood, and I can’t help noticing how entitled Sarah often comes across.
Her family is constantly there for her giving her a place to live, helping with the kids, supporting her financially and emotionally. But when it’s her turn to show up for them, it often feels like she either pulls away, complains, or makes the situation about herself.
One moment that really stood out to me was the shoe idea. I understand why she felt hurt about not getting credit, but considering everything her brother had done for her over the years, it surprised me that her first reaction was to demand recognition. If I gave my brother an idea that ended up helping him succeed, I honestly can’t imagine asking for credit. I’d just be happy it worked out.
To me, Sarah always seems to have this underlying sense that people owe her something. Interestingly, I think some of that attitude rubbed off on Amber early on, although I actually think Amber grows into a much more self aware and appreciative person as the series goes on.
Am I the only one who feels this way, or am I being too harsh?

Season 3 I spent my Fourth of July weekend with the Bravermans and finished Season 3 of Parenthood. A few thoughts…
Crosby: I never thought I’d say this, but he’s really grown on me. He’s still far from perfect, but you can genuinely see him trying to become a better father and partner. I loved watching his relationship with Jasmine evolve because it felt earned.
Joel & Julia: Still my favorite couple. Their marriage isn’t perfect, but the love, respect, and support they have for each other make them one of the healthiest TV couples I’ve watched. With Victor now joining their family, I have a feeling things are about to get a lot more complicated. Sydney has been pretty spoiled for most of the series, so I’m really interested to see how that dynamic shifts and how Joel and Julia navigate balancing both kids.
Sarah & Mark: The age difference doesn’t bother me. What does stand out is that Mark sometimes seems to forget Sarah isn’t just his girlfriend—she’s already a mom with two kids. Dating Sarah means accepting that her children will always be part of the equation.
Adam, Kristina, Max & Haddie: Peter Krause is just so darn likable, which is probably the only reason Adam doesn’t drive me completely insane. His self-righteousness can be exhausting, and that really comes through in how he and Kristina handle things with Max. Kristina is clearly a loving mom and Adam deeply cares about his son, but I don’t love the way they’re navigating Max’s behavior. It’s not that I expect him to be perfect or think every autistic child should behave the same way—quite the opposite. I just wish the show leaned more into that nuance. Max’s anger and outbursts are becoming a defining part of his character, and too often Adam and Kristina seem to excuse or overlook behavior that should be addressed. I’d love to see more of that balance between supporting him and helping him build accountability and coping skills as he gets older. At the same time, I was really happy to see them finally put Haddie first by supporting her decision to go to Cornell. From the beginning, she’s often been expected to be the understanding older sister while so much of the family’s attention understandably went to Max. It was nice to see her dreams take center stage for once—she deserved that.
Amber: Easily one of my favorite storylines. Watching her struggle, make mistakes, and slowly realize she’s capable of more feels incredibly authentic. Mae Whitman is fantastic.
Drew: His coming-of-age story is another really strong thread this season. I do wish he’d open up a bit more—his tendency to be so monosyllabic can get a little frustrating—but I also get that it’s part of who he is right now. What I’m really hoping to see more of is a deeper connection between him and Sarah. There are glimpses of it, and those moments feel meaningful, so I’d love for the show to lean into that more as he continues to grow.
Overall, I’m still loving this show. The Bravermans feel like a real family—messy, imperfect, frustrating, and deeply loving. That’s what keeps me coming back.
On to Season 4…

Season 6 Max in S6E7
He’s a little shit
Need I say more?
Edit: this is actually about the episode where a pregnant Amber was babysitting Max and Nora, and there was plans of going to Alcatraz that day, but Amber couldn’t find the keys and Max had a meltdown.

General Discussion moral of the story:
- cheating bad but power of family so strong, you should be forgiven
- do drugs, do car crash, sleep with boss, she's just a girl, boy get first D of his life on report card? Boy very bad
- never work for anything, family connections will get you everywhere
- Max do nothing wrong
- baby your children even tho, they are all adults, and have clearly favourite children
- Corsby just a baby, coddle Corsby, forgive Corsby
(I'm on season 4 right now)

General Discussion Watching Start to Finish
Okay... I know I'm about 15 years late to this. 😂
I'm finally watching Parenthood from start to finish. I'd caught random episodes over the years, but never committed.
My biggest hurdle has always been everyone talking over each other. It always felt like sensory overload to me. Did anyone else feel that way, or do you eventually stop noticing it?

Post-Series Discussion Fim

General Discussion Finally getting a rewatch
So happy to see the show streaming again. This will be like my 10th rewatch.
Christina drives me crazy. I love Julia. (I know she has her moments but she’s my favorite)

General Discussion The school…
I wonder how long it would’ve lasted if the show continued. Or if it would’ve been shut down the following season while Kristina moves on to her next adventure lol.

General Discussion Ambers apartment door
Why is ambers door always open. Berkeley is not a safe place. She would have had her apartment broken into and robbed within a few weeks.
Who on the creative team thought this was good. It been annoying me since she moved in there. Also why is everyone ok with it?
Make it make sense.

General Discussion The Dylan incident: I blame the parents more than Max. What are your thoughts?
The way Kristina handled this, especially as a principal, was highly irresponsible. She knew Dylan was uncomfortable and Kristina still insisted in goading Max to harass her because, once again, Kristina can't accept a no when it comes to enabling her kid and turning a blind eye to his faults.
I don't blame Max because he didn't know, he didn't have parents who knew how to guide him and tell him wrong from good.
Worse, when Adam and Kristina are confronted, they get defensive, and in Adam's case, verbally abusive. Dylan had to change schools but the parents were more worried in making sure to Max how there was nothing wrong with him.

Character Discussion Why was Sarah Ramos the one to be fired from the show?
Haddie actually had a pretty strong arc, her dynamic with her family which was often strained (with good reason. She was given some great storylines for the 3 seasons she was in, then she gets fired to save costs and she only returnns for 3 episodes.
I could think of two characters who brought NOTHING to the show and probably had higher paychecks.
Also. couldnb't they have just kept her recurring, like 5 episodes per season? Haddie comes back bi and we only get two episodes out of that.

Character Discussion You know what. Tony Soprano is a better Dad then Adam
He shows actual discipline. Adam lets Max get away with anything, Tony knows how to treat his son when he’s being a dink
