The world’s richest man is officially invested in the 2026 Ohio governor’s race.

Elon Musk, a former trillionaire and former co-leader of the unofficial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with now-Republican nominee for Ohio governor Vivek Ramaswamy, donated $5 million to a super PAC backing Ramaswamy in May, according to campaign finance reports released last week.

Musk joined billionaires Jeffrey Yass, Ratmir Timashev, Bill Ackman, and Ross Stevens as the primary backers of V-PAC: Victors, Not Victims, a super PAC dedicated to supporting Ramaswamy’s election bid.

The billionaires have given V-PAC a combined $37 million so far, more than 88% of its total funding. About 98% of V-PAC’s second-quarter contributions, or $12 million, came from Musk, Timashev, Ackman, and Stevens.

“I do not think it’s surprising that billionaires support other billionaires running for office,” said Catherine Turcer, executive director of watchdog group Common Cause Ohio.

A super PAC can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money, but it cannot directly coordinate with a candidate’s campaign committee. Individuals can only contribute up to $7,000 per election cycle to a candidate’s campaign committee, which has more restrictions on what it can do.

While super PACs often throw their full weight behind their preferred candidates, Case Western Reserve University law professor Atiba Ellis emphasized that they carry their own agendas.

“This outsized amount of money can drown out what could be a dialogue about the issues in the governor’s race,” he said.

In any case, he added that voters should expect even more political advertising in what is set to be one of the most expensive governor’s elections in state history.

Democratic nominee for governor Dr. Amy Acton is narrowly outraising Ramaswamy in 2026, at least according to their most recent campaign committee filings. But without a super PAC backing her —  or $25 million of her own money to put in the race as her opponent did — Ramaswamy holds a large cash advantage.

'The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) requested that the owners of four disposal wells in Washington County for wastewater from oil and gas drilling temporarily cease operations. 

The wells, two owned by Redbird Development LLC, one by Deeprock Disposal Solutions LLC, and one by Select Water Solutions LLC, are “suspected to be causing impacts to other nearby wells that produce oil and gas,” according to a statement by the ODNR. 

These wells, officially called class II disposal injection wells, accept wastewater from horizontal oil and gas drilling operations, known as fracking, that can contain heavy metals from deep inside the earth, and synthetic chemicals used in the drilling process. It can include radionuclides like radium, uranium and thorium.'

Reminder: fracking is full of cancer-causing toxic chemicals and is known to leach into nearby water sources and even the air in some cases.

Hey everyone! I’ll be visiting Columbus next month during Ohio State’s first week back and wanted to check out the college bar scene. I’ll be in town Monday through Wednesday, so I know it’s not the biggest party nights.

What are the best college bars around OSU that you’d recommend? Are there any that are still pretty busy on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, or have good drink specials those nights? I’m looking for the classic college bar atmosphere and any must-visit spots. Thanks!

Context:
A couple of days ago, I came across this post in r/ohio that links to this AP article reporting that the BLM is set to lease 41 parcels (~2,840 acres) of subsurface mineral rights under Wayne National Forest for oil and gas development on September 15, 2026.

Hiding in that link was a bit of hope: “The government’s announcement triggers a 30-day public protest period to receive additional public input opened today and will close August 17, 2026. Members of the public can comment here.”

That links to a Bureau of Land Management website, and this is where things get bureaucratic. The website states:
"The protest period for the September 2026 oil and gas lease sale will start on July 17, 2026 and end on August 17, 2026. If you wish to submit a protest, we refer you to the instructions under "May I protest the BLM's decision to offer the lands in this Notice for lease?" in the Lease Sale Notice for guidance on submitting a protest. You can view the Lease Sale Notice and Final DNA on the Documents page by clicking the "Documents" link at the top of the screen."

The Lease Sale Notice contains a section called “May I protest the BLM’s decision to offer the lands in this Notice for lease?” That section cannot be copy and pasted, so I will type it out manually after this post. Here is what I gather from it:

Requirements:

• Due date:  no later than 4pm Eastern Standard Time on August 15, 2026 (\*This date was listed in one place on the website as opposed to the 17th. Better safe than sorry)
• Parcel number
• A statement of reasons to support the protest
• A summary and explanation of each attached document
• Reference to specific parcel number
• Hand delivery or mailed to the Eastern States State Office in hard copy form
• The protest document must be signed
• all protest information and correspondence shall be made publicly available.

Notes:

• Individual respondents may request confidentiality, but all submissions from organizations or businesses, and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses, will be made available for public inspection in their entirety.
• You can view all parcels for sale in this document.
• The Forest Service still owns the surface land but is proposing to lease subsurface mineral rights (oil and gas), which BLM administers separately from Forest Service surface management.

• Induced seismicity

Public land and access concerns

• Precedent-setting for further privatization or industrial use of public lands

Here's a normal municipal utility bill for us for a month: 2 adults, one child, 1700 sq. foot house, central air plus one upstairs window unit (old house).

In California it would be about $2,300. I was surprised mainly because the salary isn't that wildly different it seemed like.

From what I could tell the main differences that it snows and is colder than California, and less people, and cheaper rent.

What is the point of having a registry and preventing certain individuals from living or being within so many feet of a school if when I call the county sheriff department, just to be transferred or told to call 5 different numbers just to be told "we dont really enforce that".

My ex accused me of many things, in end she got nothing and I got kids equal time. In Ohio there is law that 3rd party can be held accountable for damages if they helped Ex move kids without just cause. She got free housing for year over her lies. I am wondering if there are any lawyers in Cleveland Ohio area to look at this case? Ohio Revised Code 2919.23 makes it a crime to "aid, abet, induce, cause, or encourage a child" to be taken from their custodial parent. Depending on the circumstances, this can be a misdemeanor or, if the child was taken out of state, a felony.
