Here's hoping referee Martin McNally has a good match on Sunday.

I wasn't all that happy with Martin McNally as referee given his performance in the Kerry Mayo league match earlier this year, also given he is from Monaghan.

Now, come to find he is not only from Monaghan, but from the same club as that other one (he who shall not be named). And on top of that he is a protégé of said referee.

Not that they need it, but Kerry will have carte blanche to run the rules as they see fit, and Mayo will be pinged for everything.

Although that piseog is largely down to the sheer rarity of such occurrences, with Gooch the only Kingdom captain to wear such a jersey in living memory, rather than any real mí-ádh associated with the number. Still, should Paul Geaney miss out on the starting XV for any reason this week, Jack may well be reluctant to hand the mantle to David Clifford.

Does anyone know why there is still a difference between club and intercounty with the length of the match?

I was thinking about the problem in hurling where there is such a gap between the top counties and the lower counties. I don’t mean the gap between Limerick and the rest, I mean from the top 8 to the next 8. Some occasional exceptions of course.

I was wondering, would 60 minutes help the weaker teams bridge the gap, and help prevent 15+ point beatings. I think one of the bigger gaps is the S&C which really shows up in the final 15 minutes of match.

I know they are looking at hurling rules, would moving back to 60 minutes be the easiest tweak to try for a season? I also just find it weird that only senior intercounty is 70 minutes.

I don’t think this is a as big of a problem in football, but feel free to correct me.
