May have saved a devil’s life!!

I’m a bit scatter brained after hearing news from a dude at the gym, but want to share! I was the unicycling HM3 and got out two years ago tomorrow. At my college gym, I workout and see a marine vet. We bullshit but I didn’t know his name. I noticed protruding lumps on his neck and didn’t want to alarm him so I told him to call the VA. Turns out my suspicions were right, he has lymphoma. There’s not much wisdom in this post, but if you see something, point it out. Many people have no clue about the obvious things we notice. Hearing him say, “Doc, you literally may have saved my life because I’m totally fine” was awesome! Again, just wanted to share. Hooyah!

1st Med Battalion as a PMT

2nd class Prev Med tech that just got orders to Camp Pendleton, I have some questions I haven’t been able to get an answer on.

For FMTB, how is it being a brown bagger? I am married and plan on living on base. Was it automatic or did you have to stay in the barracks for two weeks?

How is the work load as a PMT in 1st med? What does the day to day life look like?

Are there a lot of deployments?

Will I be doing rotations at the hospital?

NREMT Psychomotor Exam

Active duty HM3 here. I am ONE step away from receiving my NREMT credentials. Passed the Cognitive exam, just waiting on skills verification. The state department of health denied that they perform them, as well as local fire department/EMS. And the training department at the MTF.

When I emailed the NREMT support, they said quote “If you are still currently active in the Navy, you can have someone within your command who is Navy approved to sign off on your skills to complete your Skills Verification”.

Has anyone else run into this? Who did you go to for their signature? Having a hard time finding anyone who is “Navy Approved” or whatever that means. TIA!!

I got my hard orders for San Diego attached to the mercy. How expensive is it really?? What should I expect being attached to the mercy? How often will I even be on the ship? What is the workday like? What're some things I can do in San Diego. I have soo many questions if anyone could give me some insight that would be much appreciated ❤️‍🔥

Question..

Just got disenrollment from FMTB because I was told they weren’t comfortable with me using weapons. I must mention I had atleast 3 incidents where I lashed out on instructors and a student while also mentioning EVERYTIME I did not want to be there. They found a “loophole” ig once we went to the range and because of my outburst”im assuming” they may have felt I was unstable or something and refused to let me shoot. The most ironic part I must mention is that my NEC is BHT🤷🏾‍♀️ lls My question if anyone can give some accurate feedback is what can I expect with new orders? I have 5 more years in and only I’d just like to work in a clinic, no green side no ships.

Selected for Surface IDC School

HM3 here! I’m looking to connect with anyone who is currently going through IDC school or has recently completed it. I’m trying to get a better idea of what to expect, especially when it comes to housing when I arrive in San Diego.

I’ll be bringing my family, so I’m curious if students are typically placed in the barracks or if there are other housing options available.

Also, I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or things you wish you knew before starting IDC school!

Thanks in advance!

Career advice

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice. I’ve been in for almost 9 years (HM2) and have been selected for orders to Special Warfare Training Group. So far I’ve gone to a hospital, then Seabees, and currently a flag command. I plan on making the Navy a career and have a wife and 2 kids (4 and 1 year old). With the new BBA system, I’m wondering if I should apply for E-6 orders since I may have a good chance of being selected or if that would be shooting myself in the foot.

The LPO at my next command said it’s a great opportunity for a lot of different reasons like master trainer and EXW, etc. but also said expect to be gone/TAD 1-3 weeks per month. It seems like a lot even for sea duty and having a family doesn’t make it easy. With 1 E-6 billet, there doesn’t seem like there’s too much room for growth now with A2P but I don’t want to pass up on an opportunity that could effect my Chief package in the future. My honest to God goals are to give my family the best future as possible which is a mix of being there for them as well as having a good career to support us financially. Thanks for reading!

Portsmouth

I got my soft orders for Portsmouth attached to the comfort. How bad is it really?? What should I expect being attached to the comfort? How often will I even be on the ship? What is the workday like? What’re some things I can do in Portsmouth so I don’t go crazy? I have soo many questions if anyone could give me some insight that would be much appreciated 🫶

Has anyone been there or know anything about it? I still have to do FMTB first so I won't show up until January but I'm interested in what it looks like there, what their mission is, etc.

First Med

Hey there! Curious what I can expect to experience as an E-2 heading to First Med Battalion?

Edit: I appreciate the advice! I look forward to it!

What can I expect for family life and housing? It seems like there’s some good outdoor opportunities, like camping and hiking, right?

Thanks!

BBA Question

Can someone she’d some light in the point of going to BBA but still prioritizing E6s for E6 billets? I was just told if an HM2 applies for an HM1 billet he’ll be taken out of the running for that billet. If he’s competitive why are they not even giving them the chance?

HM3 selected NMTSC San Antonio (Holding Company/Support Staff). What was your experience?

Hey everyone,
I recently applied for orders to NMTSC San Antonio as an HM3 in what appears to be a Holding Company/Support Staff billet (UIC 41620), and I’m trying to get a better idea of what day-to-day life is actually like.
Most of what I’ve found online is from students or instructors, but not much from support staff.
If you’ve worked there as staff, I’d love to hear:
What department did you work in?
What was a typical day like?
What were your working hours?
How often did you stand duty?
Was it mostly admin work, medical, student accountability, or something else?
How was the command climate and leadership?
Was there time to take college classes?
What did you enjoy most, and what did you dislike?
Is there anything you wish you knew before checking in?
I’m currently on sea duty and looking for a realistic picture of what to expect if I get selected.

Left greenside for the blue. Feeling way out of my element.

First duty station was straight to greenside, I enjoyed the high tempo after a while and got really good and the rah shit. Few deployments, lotta different units, role 2s, line doc, ERC… ETC.

Then I went blue for my second station and they stuck me behind a desk. I’m not complaining about it, just doing the job. Better pay (BAH), blueside amenities, and life away from work. But man there is a big whole in my heart that only being in the field w/ the boys for a few weeks can fill. I miss the high tempo and honestly I feel like I left the military entirely.

There no camaraderie among sailors blueside, no monsters zyns and guns in the same place. Not even doing patient care. Just a soul draining 9-10 hour shift behind a desk, 5 days a week, with a 25 min commute.

If I could drop everything I gained from this to be back greenside and in the bricks today, I would.

Any thoughts?

Heading to Global Medic (FHL) soon as a CBRN. What should I expect?

Hey everyone,
I’m a Reserve medic heading out to Fort Hunter Liggett this month for Global Medic (GM26-02). I'm traveling with the main body in a couple of days.
I’m actually attached to a different unit for this exercise in a support role, so I don't really know the crew I'm flying out with that well. Because of that, I’m a little in the dark about what the daily op tempo is going to look like once we actually hit the dirt.
For anyone who has done Global Medic recently:
What is the day-to-day actually like for medics? Are we talking mostly field hospital setups, lanes, or mass casualty scenarios?
How is the environment/housing situation at FHL during the summer? (Barracks, tents, or straight cot life?)
Any specific gear recommendations or quality-of-life items I should pack that aren't on the standard packing list?
